The 400 Blows

Drama

For young Parisian boy Antoine Doinel, life is one difficult situation after another. Surrounded by inconsiderate adults, including his neglectful parents, Antoine spends his days with his best friend, Rene, trying to plan for a better life. When one of their schemes goes awry, Antoine ends up in trouble with the law, leading to even more conflicts with unsympathetic authority figures. From TMDB

Just re-watched Truffuart’s fantastic The 400 Blows. The scene of the young children watching the puppet show is so wonderful it’s worth seeing the film for that alone.

just watched “The 400 Blows (Les quatre cents coups)” (1959), a really terrific teenage rebellion movie that is grounded in rebellion as a natural response to the indifference and resentment of the adults. the extreme youth of the lead nicely underscores how the adults are the real failures.

The final scene of Mark S and Helly R running down the hall panicked and giddy into a freeze frame zoom quotes Truffaut's [The 400 Blows](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_400_Blows). In that film and several that followed, the character of Antoine Doinel, age 14, represents a younger facet of the director himself. He is an innie Truffaut, if you will, coming of age. In the climax, the rebellious delinquent Doinel escapes from the reform school to which he has been confined and runs to the…
