unlabelledView post →Having worked on the original student project, it was very emotional for me to play Symphonia 4 years later, it having evolved into a full game. The team at Sunny peak really brought it to its best and most complete version, combining lots of things I love about video games: Tight and challenging platforming requiring using several abilities in tandem, but that lets you try again immediately as many time as you need. Sumptuous scenery to get lost into, and find secrets scattered within. Music…

It exudes style and just pours out this fantastic attention to detail. I adored it. Highly highly recc. store.steampowered.com/app/1865960/...

unlabelledView post →Playing Tales of Symphonia feels very nostalgic. I've played the game back in 2003, when I was 8yo, and that was my first non-Pokémon RPG. But some scenes are still exactly like I remember them.
unlabelledView post →The platformer genre is over saturated and as such it is difficult to stand out from the crowd. Symphonia caught my attention as I love classical music and I play a string instrument. It is a novel setting that stuck to a tried and true formula, rather than trying something different. Ultimately, the game would have been better served by trying something ‘different’. I would have preferred to have sections, where you have to move to the beat of the music and/or use your instrument in ‘boss…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A precise platformer full of love for orchestral music and pretty scenarios. It's an absolutely beautiful experience, with the right amount of challenge and variety. It's very lineal, but with the possibility to go back to all levels to get collectables and tears for pieces of lore and optional skills. Even with all of this, it is short, a condense and satisfying adventure that doesn't overstay it's welcome. Every zone is nice looking, worth taking screenshots a any spot, and the music is the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't be fooled by the charming graphics and classic music style - this metroidvania is unforgiving. At some point in the game, it's just too much... just miss a hook by a quarter of a millimeter, you die and have to restart sometimes just from too far away. If you're not into (very) hard and (very) unforgiving metroidvanias, just skip this one or you'll break your keyboard (or gamepad). Seen Steam ratings only allow Recommend and Not recommended, I chose to put a thumbs down following this…

unlabelledView post →I finished the Symphonia demo and immediately added to cart. It’s devastatingly beautiful (visually and musically) and the platforming is the perfect balance of fluid and precise. Love games that celebrate music 🎼 🧡
unlabelledView post →9/10 A melodious platformer that doesn’t overstay its welcome. What is it: A platformer that looks and sounds amazing, and prefers to be enjoyed, not to be plowed through. It mixes in a bit of precision, a bit of puzzle, a bit of hidden object, and a bit of metroidvania. The story: Symphonia is the land that music built. Unfortunately, it’s also the land that music forgot. A long time ago, four musicians combined their talents for magical music to build a perfect land, beautiful and…

unlabelledView post →If I could describe this game, it would be "The Path of Pain from Hollow Knight meets Celeste meets classical music." The game is visually stunning (especially the backgrounds), but what really elevates the game is that it offers a genuine challenge without being totally unfair. You need to employ precise platforming and timing to make your way across 4 unique biomes, and whenever you die, it's mostly your fault. Once you get the hang of the controls, the movement feels extremely satisfying.…

unlabelledView post →How in THE WORLD did this game get so little attention!?!? I'm not going to say that Symphonia is a masterpiece, but HOLY does it have a lot of passion poured into it and with a super original take on the platformer genre. The game is really polished, with no extra fluff, it's just super high quality throughout from beginning to end. The platforming is smooth and tough as nails, all the instrument themed biomes are fantastic to look at and the OST is also the highlight of the game, with…

No combat. + Interesting rethinking of platforming skills. Instead of a double jump, we have a bounce in the air, which only works if the hero has a wooden platform underneath. Instead of a dash, we use a short hang. Pillows are used for long jumps. + Fair difficulty. Optional challenge rooms, some with unique mechanics. + Shadow Chase mode (like Dark Rayman from…

unlabelledView post →I want to start this by saying that this is just my personal experience. It's entirely possible that my bias lends itself to my negative review and I acknowledge that. When I heard that this game was a precision platformer and a metroidvania, I was very excited. I was fresh off of the hype that Hollow Knight: Silksong gave me and I was really hoping to get more of that in this game. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Let's start with the positive. This game has a very cool atmosphere, and the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For me the controls in this game aren't that tight and and it needs a lot of different inputs. I never get why some of these games needs to be so "fast", you fly across the screen when platforming a lot of the time and that just makes it so its hard to see what you are running into. It makes it so a lot of the time you die because you didn't know what was around the corner and you didn't react fast enough. That kind of "you need to die once or twice so you know what to do" difficulty isn't so…

I'm not the biggest fan of having to get abilities and backtracking to be able to get certain things, but that's really the only major complaint outside of some glitches that showed up once I was replaying for the coins. The Double jump bounce…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have never been more ridiculously frustrated with a game before, specially to the point of tears. While the graphics, music and overall atmosphere of the game were beautiful, the gameplay itself did not make for a good experience. The controls were finicky, the margin for error was basically nonexistent, and the ending chase sequence had me contemplating murder.

unlabelledView post →Symphonia offers beautifully drawn backgrounds, gorgeous animation and a name-fitting orchestral soundtrack but make no mistake – this precision platformer is clearly aimed at a dedicated crowd Even if you’re only looking at the screenshots and videos on the Steam store page, it’s obvious that Symphonia is a beautiful looking game first and foremost. The hand-drawn backgrounds, the 2D animations – especially for an indie-title, it’s astonishing how pleasant it is to look at Symphonia’s world,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I discovered this game in September at the “Istanbul Gamefest”, as an indie production, it looked very, very legendary and beautiful compared to the other games there. In fact, I had a dialog with one of the producers and I was there with my brother, we learned that it was made by a French team and 14 people worked on this project and much more than that, the person who introduced this game to us was the designer of this game, “Symphonia”, he introduced it perfectly and I was very interested in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I very much liked the fresh theme for a platformer and the art style. Using musical staves as trails for the awesome looking protagonist is a neat touch! My baby-daughter immediately started turning and dancing when she heard the music :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Funny thing is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth does not have nearly as many side quests as a Team Symphonia game, nor any missiles at all, they just made how many side quests you do traceable so people get insane brain poisoning and hate the game for it instead of looking inward about how they approach them
unlabelledView post →The art direction and soundtrack in this game are fantastic. The world is stunning and sounds beautiful. Most of the platforming challenges are pretty fun! Unfortunately, I have a few gripes that make me not want to recommend this game. For a $30 game, the gameplay is ridiculously unpolished, and the level design does leave something to be desired. The control scheme is pretty unintuitive and takes a while to get used to. There are also loads of little things that make the movement feel…

unlabelledView post →This is a really beautiful game where its all about platforming. There are no enemies in the game, so its a pure precision platformer. I was missing enemies in the beginning, but it works for the game and I loved the levels. Its not a difficult game at all. It took me some time to get use to the controls which didn't feel natural to me, but after some time it was just fine and became quite easy. The highlights of the game is the graphics and the beautiful music. Achievements are very easy to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Long Range Stones in Symphonia were "ubitowers" before Assassins ever had a Creed but most people playing the game completely skipped or forgot them. But when Chadley tells you hey these towers fill out your map, that's suddenly bad game design, even though they're equally as skippable
unlabelledView post →Would recommend on sale, but not at full price. Game is really short if you are experienced in platformer. I finished the game in 3 hours collecting everything but 8 hidden thing that i didn't see and 4-5 secret that needed backtracking once you unlocked further ability. The backtracking is really bad though, you have 3-4 place you can select to spawn in, but you don't know in which section the thing you missed are so it's just a guessing game or just replaying the whole game re-entering…
