It's by no means an atrocious game or anything and the term "walmart celeste" is both intended and deserved (which isnt necessarily a bad thing, since Celeste is always mentioned in discussions like this for a good reason). Still, after finishing chapters 1-6, my overall experience with the game unfortunately skews negative for a number of reasons: -While movement overall is nice, there are some small…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →**I have about ~2.5 hours of gameplay from offline mode that didn't calculate in Steam once I regained internet.** I saw another reviewer describe Sunblaze as 'Walmart Celeste' and, because I'm an unoriginal hack, I'm gong to parrot that sentiment in my own review! Unfortunately, when Celeste is your direct inspiration and competition in the space, you have quite the challenge in setting yourself up as a worthy challenger - unfortunately, Sunblaze doesn't quite hit the mark. The pixel art is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's good. Incredibly creative and challenging. Don't attempt 100% unless you hate yourself. Requires completing each world without dying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So close to being good, but the platforming feels bad. Very slippery, very fast, very unforgiving. Some levels are a breeze and some levels are way too hard and precise - diffuculty spikes are insane. Story is ok, didn't finish yet, but nothing amazing. 5/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first chapter started out pretty well, but from chapter 2 I started noticing 2 major issues with the design that robbed me of the fun of it - 1) the moves you have to make are pretty much scripted. It's not like ok this is the level design, this is my character's abilities how can I move forward, it's more like "what's the one path I need to take". This is not in itself necessarily a huge problem but then we come to 2) You often have to perform rather frame-perfect moves (in repetition) to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An excellent blend of precision platformer and puzzle. It’s a lot of fun, as the character should fly across almost the entire screen, requiring you to think about where to jump and what to activate next in order to complete the level. I also really appreciate how the transitions between levels are executed in the game. Each new screen flows smoothly into the next right before your eyes, and it’s beautiful to see that they invested time into perfecting this aspect. As for the downsides,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's very close to being fun, but unfortunately held back by the overly loose and broad player movement that propel you into danger more often than you can rely on them saving you from a tight spot. Despite the cleverly designed levels that require some amount of precision to pull off in style (and feel good when done so), the game's magnetic systems, high movement speed and awkward jump height often lead to missing a crucial ledge grab, taking out a block too early, dashing over a ledge you…

Figure out the tricks and move limits while dad watches you die 999 times. Talk about parental love. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cute yet hardcore precision platformer with a similar graphic style of Celeste, though it becomes its own thing. Movement is more limited but very responsive, which makes sense since all levels in this game happen in a set space with no sidescrolling whatsoever. However, aside from the basic mechanics that the game teaches you, there are few more advanced features that you can take in your advantage, such as spikejumping like in Dustforce. Most platforms become unstable after few moments…

Overall Rating - Seriously Flawed ★★☆☆☆ First Impressions I was looking for a smaller title to install, not wanting to take up that much computer memory. Sunblaze (SB) fit that bill, so I chose it on that basis alone. From the trailers, it was kind of hard to determine if the levels would actually be that difficult, or…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Launching the game I expected to see another clone of Celeste or Super Meat Boy. However, although at first glance Sunblaze looks like their copy, its gameplay is very different from these games. The main difference is that this game is a puzzle-platformer. Yes the game has challenging platforming sections. But the main difficulty of this game is the need to pick up the right sequence of actions on the level: what platform to destruct, how to get to the enemy, how to block the laser and so on.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A solid title in the precision, puzzle platformer genre that's worth picking up. A shame it doesn't have cloud saves though so it's not straightforward to get my save between my computer and Steam Deck.

unlabelledView post →By looking at it, you might assume this is just a Celeste clone, but the game stands on its own. Unlike Celeste, Sunblaze is less about carrying out ultra-precise jump sequences, but more so about figuring out what that sequence is. Most of these jump puzzles are great and dopamine rush you get after completing them is immense.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game hits a weird spot for me. I love Celeste, which clearly has been a big influence for Sunblaze. On one side, I wouldn't mind some dashy hard platforming no matter the package, I just think the formula has so much potential. On the other hand, the Celeste modding scene has so many banger campaigns that I don't need any other game to fulfill that need. But hey, this game has surprisingly good reviews for a knockoff so it's either really good or it offers something new despite of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lots of fun. Non-stop stream of well-designed levels that just keeps you playing from start to finish - literally, in my case, as i ended up completing the main game in one sitting. Maybe a tad short for the price, but with the amount of effort that went into each level, that can't really be helped. If i had to make one complaint, it's that the final boss is really bad. It's nothing but memorisation, which really isn't much fun, especially considering all the other bosses were fine. Aside…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3/10 bland gameplay wise. heres a room, now do that same room but we changed it a tiny bit.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sunblaze is a good platform game with some nice pixels graphics and a nice ambiant. I recommend it!!! 💗💗💗
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not celeste, but it's good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perfect precision platformer! Short one screen levels, but each room is unique, because of very good level design all over the whole game. Very nice soundtrack to nod your head to and keep on going. The movement has a double jump, a dash and a dash jump which when performed just right in rapid succesion is pretty much similar to Celeste's wave dash (dash+jump=long and quick dash-jump). The game requires you to use all movement options in different order, in different timed succesion and in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is definitely very "We have Celeste at home", but that's not intrinsically a bad thing. It lacks a lot of the intricacies of that game, and the story is basically nonexistent, but I have a hard time saying anything really bad about it. It's another cute, fun, and difficult precision platformer, and that's totally okay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yet again I'm trolled by a steam game with Very Positive reviews. It's k-mart celeste. The character feels terrible to control and it ain't satisfying to play. I have no idea why so many indies on steam nowadays get automatic Very positives or better and then when you play them they suck.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Certainly more positives than negatives. It's a great Steam Deck game, but no Cloud Saves is a real bummer. It's in the Celeste vein, but certainly not a copy. Sublaze also doesn't match the smoothness of controls like Celeste does, making a fair few deaths feel more a failure of controls rather than of skill. But I grabbed this on a deep sale, and even just half an hour in or so, I can tell this is solid. If it ends up falling apart soon, I'll come back and report in. But I would feel safe in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun precision platformer. You can feel Celeste's influence, but it still feels like its own game. The normal game is challenging enough, but there's also more difficult stuff if you want more of a challenge. Nothing but good things to say about this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Came here for hot girl, ended up enjoying a pretty great little platformer. Tough as hell though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disclaimer: My scores/reviews are almost always based on having bought the game at close to the "lowest historical price" on steam at time of purchase. Quick score: 5/5 Notes: A combination between "Celeste" and "Never Give Up", 2 games I would also strongly recommend. No complaints. Much more puzzle focused with the level design than even a game like Celeste, lots of moving parts and often no safe spots to stand once you start. For an estimate on difficulty I just got 100% completion in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game! the platforming feels good and there's enough variety in mechanics in between the chapters. Depending on your skill level you probably get between 8-13 hours playtime to 100% the savefile. (Not 100% steam achievements). There's even a "Zen mode" to just play the story.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Originally posted on [url=https://www.dragon-quill.net/christmas-steam-games-2024-recs/]Dragon Quill. Comments are enabled there. Celeste has apparently spawned a genre of “red-haired women who can air dash”, and I picked this one out from a list of such games. I enjoyed it, but don’t have much else to say. I liked that, similarly to Celeste, it’s very fast-paced and designed to maintain momentum through failure (respawn time is less than a second); but while it had similar easy mode…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a precision platformer. It's well made. It's challenging. If that's what you want, great. My criticism is that there seems to be absolutely no learning curve. It's just hard from the get go. I've only done two chapters so far but the lack of a difficulty curve is off-putting. The last game precision platformer I played was Splasher and in that the levels get progressively harder. That was great as it encouraged you to up your game all the time. With Sunblaze I'm struggling to continue as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short version: I cannot recommend this game to others. I feel like it wants to be Celeste, but it just doesn't have the same heart. Go play Celeste instead. And if you've already played Celeste, go play it again, as you'll have more fun than playing this. Long version: I'm a big fan of Celeste (as apparently is this game's developer), and am no slouch at it, having completed everything but the last two C-sides and the last 1/3 of Farewell (chapter 9). I can handle challenging games. But…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game very much. It's a copy of Celeste but with some differences. For example, the static screen, like old-school games. Also, I think that it's a bit less difficult, maybe because each level is short, so checkpoints are very close. I like the short dialog scenes, with a simple story to get you into the atmosphere.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sunblaze is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam. This platformer is a "precision" type platformer that also carries the "difficult" tag... of course developers will often choose to make games punishingly difficult because then they don't have to spend quite as much time working on game levels (that gamers will never see anyway). There's also some associated narrative, something most 2D pixel platformer developers don't bother with. But that's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is super fun. Chapters are divided into sections that cover your screen. Basically you need to finish the platforming puzzle/challenge with precise jumps on your window. There is no side scrolling or backtracking. Just a single screen at a time. There is so much variety and levels are never dull. In fact, some are pretty hard to complete without countless death (specially when you try collection all cubes). If you love Celeste, give this one a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I has tight controls, the responsiveness you'd expect from a game like this, amazing and puzzling level designs. If you're into this sort of game don't hesitate to buy it. It's great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nice, short precision puzzle platformer with lots of extra content for seasoned platformer players yearning for bigger challenge. What's unique about this one is that all the levels take place within the space of your monitor without ever really changing its proportions. There's just enough variety here for a nice playthrough with some breaks cuz it can get a bit difficult. Hard mode offers completely new levels which really put your skill to the absolute limits. Then there's also The Lost…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From the creators of "F*** I SWEAR I PRESSED THE A BUTTON ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" and "SH** WHY IS THIS SO HARD NOBODY CAN DO THIS WHAT THE ACTUAL F*** DUDE F*** EVERYONE" presenting this game, called "Sunblaze", formerly known as "I SWEAR TO GOD IF THAT DUMB C*** DOESN'T MAKE THAT JUMP NOW I'M GONNA THROW A FIT"
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun game, right now I'm on Ch3, however there are some minor problems like if you're grabbing a corner and press the opposite direction then you will automatically jump, in some levels this is a huge pain if you have muscle memory from games like The End is Nigh or Celeste like me, I wish there was at least an option to turn it off, second minor problem is not knowing if you still have the second jump which was a problem mostly at the start, just as the second jump being kinda low…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Randomizing and clearing my backlog as best as I can - 28/343 Honestly, if Celeste didn’t exist, this would be a great game, maybe even excellent. But comparatively, it’s not even in the same ballpark as Celeste. Great platformer, but all it does is make me want to play Celeste.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sunblaze, developed by Games From Earth and published by Bonus Stage Publishing along with Leoful, is a challenging precision platformer that combines slick controls, tight level design, and a relentless difficulty curve. It draws heavily from the genre staples made popular by games like *Celeste* and *Super Meat Boy*, yet manages to carve its own space through its playful superhero theme and responsive mechanics. The game places players in the role of Josie, a young girl stepping into her…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perfect masterpiece!!! If you enjoy games like Celeste, Bzzzt, and others, I highly recommend it! Updated: It took me ~15 hours to complete this game 100% on all difficulty levels. Great game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Going to have to give a thumbs down not for the game itself but for technical issues. For whatever reason, the game will no longer load. On steam deck at least, it is stuck forever on loading. Edit: Was able to resolve issue with Steam Deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoyed games like Escape Goat 2; you're going to love this one. It's also the perfect type of game for the Steam deck; where you can easily play it for few minutes here and there... and in no times you'll end up noticing that you already played for more than 5 or 6 hours...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is perfect little precision platformer, its really challenging but every mistake you make feels fair! My favorite type of game honestly, and this one is really well executed Highly reccomend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game on sale when I was making badges. I'm a big fan of celest, so I was interested in the game. I can say that I love the heavy platformer in the style of Celelest. I died several times and over and over again. I'd like to see those crazy people, what can do those "special hard mod lvls" without a single death, either you put X hours into the game or you have to go Asian. alI i can say that the "special lvl" are MUCH harder for me as in cestest. speedrunners will love this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It got very close to being good. I almost thought we finally had one more decent precision platformer for fans of the genre, but after the first chapter, the games issue reveal themselves painfully. The gameplay is ok from a technical point of view, but it is ruined by design decisions: jump is way too short and no actual walljump. The game actually makes a joke about it: "Haha, walljump, you think you're in a video game?"... but... walljump is a good thing, it's a standard in this kind of game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good game the timing of the lasers and stuff is such that you don't have to wait for a good moment the instant you restart- you can immediately rush through the level and dodge the lasers if you know what you're doing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very great platformer. The experience can be brutally hard or fun casual. When the settings are on normal this is one of the most challenging platformers I have ever played. I am glad that they allow for full customization on difficulty.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Difficult and fast-paced, but each level fits in one screen and immediately restarts after dying. Difficulty spikes from time to time, mechanics are so simple (yet varied across the chapters). Game is ideal for challenges!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked this game a lot: it is difficult because precise and fast-paced, but each level fits in one screen and immediately restarts after dying, making it addictive. Although the difficulty spikes from time to time, there is a clear progression and I rarely felt frustrated since the mechanics are so simple (yet varied across the chapters) that I could identify my mistakes. It does resemble Celeste, but I prefer Sunblaze for the puzzle and rhythm elements. After completing every level in normal…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sunblaze is not the game you would expect from its looks and presentation, and that's mainly why I want to draw attention to a good little platformer you might otherwise miss. The appeal of this game won't be the story, since it consists of a few dad jokes in as many scenes. It won't be the graphics either, as they look serviceable, but nothing special. No, what will make Sunblaze appealing is the difficulty, and the number of levels. Granted, they're all one-screen levels so they will never…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an all right game, not the best of platformers but Josie is adorable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sunblaze is a great puzzle platformer, it feel mechanically solid, it looks gorgeous, and in my case it reveals a monumental skill issue. Levels get very hard very quickly! I'm so bad! It's all very enjoyable, really. The way the character's hair flow when she moves is mesmerizing, I will absolutely try to reproduce this in the next game jam I'm participating in. Such a nice touch, I love it. You kind of already know if you'd like this game or not, so yup if platformers are your thing then…
