Mind you, Raya was pandemic times, and Wish just wasn't that good; Strange World was the only real flier there. But they'll get to the conclusion they want.
unlabelledView post →im watching disney's Strange World to see if they used the part of lone digger that samples slave singing, they didn't use it, this is also the most annoying movie i have ever seen in my life
unlabelledView post →Oh man. Sorry, Strange World, I gotta give it to their last traditionally animated movie which Disney sent to the box office the same weekend as the last Harry Potter movie as "counterprogramming"
unlabelledView post →I didn't realize the new Pixar movie was even out. This isn't just under-marketing (which we saw with Strange World) but the fact that it's been released while Lilo & Stitch is still in theaters, plus How to Train Your Dragon, feels like either gross incompetence or deliberate sabotage.
unlabelledView post →I was so fucking confused when Lone Digger popped up in Strange World because in the middle of this Disney movie I'm suddenly thinking about a furry stripper's ass getting showered in blood as a cat man tears open a dog man's throat.
unlabelledView post →This is the same movie as Strange World btw and it's legit better which is WILD
unlabelledView post →STRANGE WORLD - 5/10 Doesn't really have a hook. Rizzless Atlantis. I remember seeing people saying this movie got no promotion because the lead was a PoC queer kid, but it's also a movie about how fossil fuels are destroying the Earth! So that probably didn't help lmao.
unlabelledView post →Disney's Strange World movie location- The stomach, with toxic stomach acid oceans below! Photoshop.
unlabelledView post →Can verify that as someone whose kid has watched STRANGE WORLD multiple times, the problem with LIGHTYEAR was that LIGHTYEAR is a lame, confusing movie whose existence didn't make any sense. That it went theatrical while TURNING RED went straight to streaming was a decision made by morons.
unlabelledView post →We watched Strange World today as a family. It is WONDERFUL. I am fairly angry at Disney dropping the ball on its promo. Probably the best non-musical Disney animated film of the last decade. SO MUCH SENSAWONDA! And great visuals and characters!
unlabelledView post →I LIKED SPACE JAM A NEW LEGACY I LIKED FREE GUY I DEFENDED STRANGE WORLD AND WISH AND KUNG FU PANDA 4 WHEN NO ONE ELSE DID DO YOU REALIZE WHAT A MOVIE HAS TO BE IN ORDER TO ACTIVELY PISS ME OFF
unlabelledView post →Tell me your favorite movie not many people know. It’s KUBASA IN A GLASS: THE STRANGE WORLD OF THE WINNIPEG TELEVISION COMMERCIAL (1975-1993) and it’s available for free right here: vimeo.com/439627683 Very, very funny and mind meltingly surreal.
unlabelledView post →Thinking about the Disney “Strange World” movie, which is the high water mark of degrowth propaganda. The costs of degrowing the economy is framed as “sometimes I have to take a shower with cold water”, instead of “sorry we don’t have the energy to manufacture any more medicine this quarter”
unlabelledView post →Strange World. A mainstream Disney animated film where one of the main characters was a gay kid who talked openly about his crush and had a boyfriend by the end. Of course Disney blamed that for the movie flopping and not on their abysmal advertising.
unlabelledView post →Disney was reportedly set to release a new original animated film in 2024 centered on a Persian princess. Due to ‘Strange World’ and ‘Wish’ being box office bombs, the film was canceled and ‘Moana 2’ was rushed into production to take its place. (via www.thewrap.com/animated-ori...)
unlabelledView post →Strange World/Wish/Moana 2 might be the single worst three-movie run in the history of Walt Disney Feature Animation. Historically, they've usually mixed the stinkers in with some gems.
unlabelledView post →Three years ago, we spent part of our Thanksgiving break taking a bunch of kiddos to see Disney’s Strange World! #FilmForGood
unlabelledView post →Absolutely! I think the actual quality of Pixar hasn’t declined at all, I think the marketing has tanked films. I didn’t want to try Onward for the longest time but it’s hilarious. There’s a great movie in Lightyear if it wasn’t IP based. Strange World was a lot of fun too! I tried all long after-
unlabelledView post →I think it’s weird the parents lock their daughter away, giving her all this shame and trauma… and the movie never explores or acknowledges it. But, many Disney movies since then have had themes of generational trauma (Encanto, Turning Red, Strange World)
unlabelledView post →2 years ago today, ‘STRANGE WORLD’ released in theaters. The film grossed over $73M at the worldwide box office on a budget of $180M.
unlabelledView post →I won’t call Disney a courageous creator of art, but considering that when they do a film with even the mildest message (Strange World: let’s not destroy the environment we’re a part of, gay son; Turning Red: girls exist) it’s treated like the Communist Manifesto, I get them being non controversial.
unlabelledView post →"[Guðnadóttir] recalled her musical life with glee, which you begin to understand as she talks about her love of exploration, be it about the atmospheric space in a nuclear power plant or creating a band featuring a film crew full of untrained singers." The Strange World Of… Hildur Guðnadóttir:
unlabelledView post →Yep we watched Strange World with the kids yesterday. A Disney film, made a couple of years earlier than Elio. The lead character’s son has a same sex crush / relationship. It’s beautiful. Did my 6 and 10 year old need a conversation about it? No, some people are gay, it’s flipping normal.
unlabelledView post →Hold up will this movie actually be fire? I don't wanna get my hopes up too high since the last time I watched a modern Disney movie in theaters (not including Pixar content) was "Strange World" and we all know how that turned out...
unlabelledView post →Honestly I think a component of it to consider in regards to Elio as well might be that it’s most basic level the Pixar style has kind of become stale. It’s not “bad” but a movie like that or even that Strange World movie would have turned more heads with a more unique style to it. Just my thoughts
unlabelledView post →The Strange World of Coffin Joe (1968) José Mojica Marins (co-writer/ director) An anthology film featuring three bizarro tales, with all the shock and perversion you expect from Marins. It's got a cool theme song about Coffin Joe. 📽 #PsychotronicPsunday #Filmsky #HorrorMovies #CoffinJoe
unlabelledView post →I do think it is weird solely from my own personal perspective that I only heard about this movie two days before it came out in theaters. I know I’m not the primary demographic etc etc etc but I thought maybe Disney did another Strange World marketing scheme where they just didn’t.
unlabelledView post →I actually think they could pull off this 5, the Academy in recent years has proven that they won't automatically nominate Disney if the movie isn't glowingly reviewed (Frozen 2, Strange World, Wish). If anything we may get a Robot Dreams-style spoiler in spot 5 that's under the radar right now.
unlabelledView post →For example, say what you will about Strange World, but that film did do a good job of showcasing a same sex relationship that wasn’t treated as a huge progressive deal, but rather just as if it were any regular crush. It wasn’t a big part of the movie but it was still a decent step forward.
unlabelledView post →Strange World did poorly through poor marketing and being an overall boring movie. Disney execs are upset the gays didn't come out in droves for it, and like many companies, they went sniffing around to the bigots in hopes of getting money. Given Elio's reception, it's clear that didn't work.

unlabelledView post →I was just grumping about ENCANTO, but both those films suffer from “we must make situations that will make for a better Lin-Manuel Miranda song” vs “we must make a film that creates a full cast of characters who all develop in their own, interesting ways” — which is something STRANGE WORLD does!
unlabelledView post →I think the last time Disney supportively advertised their original film was Wish cause it was Disney 100th anniversary and was banking on that and oops it sucked a lot, and then just ignored everything about Strange World and purposely left that DOA
unlabelledView post →Reminder: In 2022 Disney released a genuinely fantastic sci-fi animated movie destined to become this generation’s Treasure Planet with a gay POC as the central protagonist which they did no marketing for then blamed its representation for why it failed at the box office! Go watch Strange World!
unlabelledView post →There’s a disney movie with a concept kinda like this! they didnt advertise it well at all. Called “Strange World”. Gabrielle Union voices the mama i believe.
unlabelledView post →Imo I think enough time has gone by where people just kinda forgot it; probably doesn’t help that it just feels Disney barely advertised Strange World so several including myself were like “there’s a new Disney film?”
unlabelledView post →Strange World is the only large studio film in recent memory that went the other way and had the theme of "We have to stop doing the thing that's destroying everything, yes it's gonna suck, no we didn't discover some magic technology that fixes everything with no effort or sacrifice"
unlabelledView post →how did the furry fandom collectively not notice that Lone Digger is in Strange World, the Disney movie from last year
unlabelledView post →One time I had an interview for some freelance and the guy kept talking about the Disney movie Strange World and I’m pretty sure he thought I worked on that instead of the show I actually worked on: Strange Planet… and I think once he realized that he ghosted me VERY hard.
unlabelledView post →How is Strange World, of all things, the most different-looking WDAS film in recent memory? I'm not even as burned out by this house style as most people are; it's just, with this entry being in the place it is, it needs to be a fresh shot in the arm for them. If there was a time to change it up...

unlabelledView post →I know Walt Disney Animation Studios is in a bit of rough patch after Encanto with Strange World, Wish, and Moana 2(even though it made a billion dollars), but if it all goes well, especially the bigger moments that’s waiting to happen in the final film, then this will be the comeback that the…
unlabelledView post →Watching Strange World again because Milo likes it. I think it's terrible but it amuses me that Disney decided to make a whole-ass movie *just* to piss off MAGA.
unlabelledView post →I never got around to watching "Strange World" but I'm kicking myself for not doing so after seeing this video by @popdetective.bsky.social about how it is a #Solarpunk movie.
unlabelledView post →...MAY have seen ads for the movie! For those who block it all out, out-of-home advertising like billboards and posters is going to be more effective (so long as they, uh, go outside). Remember Strange World, Disney's 2022 flop who everyone claimed they saw NO ADS for? I saw billboards for that!
unlabelledView post →And whenever Disney tries to make an LGBTQIA+ movie like Strange World, it either flops because nobody cares for them or those fuckass nazis pull the lgbt grooming conspiracy out of their asses. Disney can’t win.

unlabelledView post →Hexed also seems to have the same problem as Strange World, which is it doesn't really have a defining characteristic. Strange World tried to be an adventure film but failed spectacularly at that, and Hexed is trying to be a fantasy witch world movie and it just doesn't really work in the trailer.
unlabelledView post →Or that one movie they buried and barely advertised that had a gay character in it. Strange World or something?
unlabelledView post →#YouTube The Strange World of Planet X (AKA Cosmic Monsters), 1958. Inept British sci-fi monster movie, with the novelty of giant insects in an English wood, confusing bobbies and making ladies swoon.
unlabelledView post →This should be the film that could help recover the disappointment of Disney’s last two original animated films like Strange World and Wish. Though with all due respect, I’d still take those over Home on the Range and Chicken Little.

unlabelledView post →I think they blame the "gay" on why that one movie failed, and not that it was so boring I literally forgot what it was called. (Strange World, I had to look it up)
unlabelledView post →I mean really f*ck Pixar for this bollocks. Disney's Strange World from '22 had a gay kid in it and it was no big deal. It was a fun family movie!
unlabelledView post →Which would’ve been a really big deal and a major event….if it weren’t for Disney turning the Moana Disney+ series into a movie in less than a year just to recoup the losses of Strange World and Wish, but that’s a different story.

unlabelledView post →So the “controversy” about the animated Disney film Strange World was that it featured a gay boy accepted as such by his parents, while conservative, Republican parents want to propose to their own kids gay people don’t exist or, if they concede they do, to express only hatred for them? Typical.
unlabelledView post →Remember when Disney had an original movie featuring a queer POC, and they just… didn’t promote it? I remember. And Strange World deserved so much better than what it got. That movie was fun as hell.
