60 of 98 · most liked firstHonestly, a solid city builder, but I felt no need to play the additional maps after beating the first. It's a cute game, especially if you're newer to the genre. However, if you're a city building veteran like me (e.g. Timberborn, Against the Storm, Banished), then this game will likely feel too easy and shallow. It does introduce an interesting mechanic of digging down and building on lower layers, but in practice you just end up having to focus on one layer at a time. So you'll focus on…

unlabelledView post →There is not much challenge in the game. The concept is okay, and yes, it's like the other described it, somewhere between Anno and Dungeon Keeper. But no real "economics". You build every production building once and that's enough for the rest of the game. Except for building materials maybe. After 8 hours I finished the "mission" I don't see any replay fun. The game is done nicely and I did not see a lot of issues (only minor ones; okayish). If you can buy it for a few bugs you might give it…

Replayability If you are new into this type of games, you are searching for a fast construction and organization, without too many consequences (since you can move your buildings for free), this is a friendly game for you. I cannot recommend it to people who search for a regular Anno experience, but for those type of games, you have a whole franchise. Here, you will find the more casual experience that…

Tried SteamWorld Build but it's apparently not my thing :( First of these games I haven't grooved with, but it kinda stressed me out strangely. Making progress in post-game stuff for SteamWorld Quest. And oh yeah, finally started Expedition 33!
unlabelledView post →This is again a case where I wish Steam had a "meh" rating. The game is well made for what it is, and is fun enough early on. My main issue is how rigid the game is, more of a puzzle than a city builder or exploration game. While there is a very light trading mechanic, you cannot really specialize your little town in anything, you always need the same buildings/resources to progress. I am also no stranger to slower paced games that require waiting for resources or population growth, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you get it on a deep discount like I did, this game is fun for a few hours. but it's very limited in what you can do, the build cycle gets pretty tedious, and there's narrative hooks that fight their setting which are incredibly frustrating in a city builder. don't *force* me to have useless aristocrat bots unless I can build a robo-guillotine.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I have the day off, the weather's not so good, and I have nowhere to be, this game is my go-to way to spend a relaxing few hours. Just build a western town of steam-bots, dig through the mines, fight off marshy monsters and deadly droids to find rocket parts and make your escape. I've played through it at least a dozen times and it's still refreshingly challenging.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm on the fence with this one, but I'm going to not recommend for now. The game is just too linear and easy in its current state. If it were only one of those things, I might consider it, but both at once really loses it for me. Might be good for a kid who's just getting into this type of game, but otherwise I would avoid it. There are multiple maps to choose from, but your goal and the way you hit that goal will always be the same, so I'm unsure why you would really replay the game. There's…

One of my favorites being SteamWorld Heist, a turn-based strategy game with some RPG elements. https://store.steampowered.com/sale/steamworld-build-announcement-sale https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd_ZTJtAW88 #Gaming #SteamWorldBuild
unlabelledView post →The gameplay is nice at first, but: - resources values are not very well balanced - although the game offers multiple maps, there is little incentive to complete the game more than once - the information about the buildings resource consumption are lacking (you need to build one and then guess from the effect on the demand, which varies with other factors as well) The EULA (which I should have read before playing the game) is the final nail in the coffin.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fine. It's not great. It's definitely casual. If you can get it with the Mechanized DLC on a heavy discount then do that and play a "Mechanized" run. The DLC adds some extra mechanics, but not enough to make it worth doing a whole new run, and it's definitely not quite worth the full price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Eh. It's alright. Competent, good-looking, and achieves what it sets out to do. I really enjoyed the Dungeon Keeper-esque mine exploration and defense, and it was very novel to have the resource loop of extracting from the mines -> improving the city -> more tech to explore the mine. My issues were that everything felt very linear in how to proceed. I know that a city-builder with a defined end-state and a main quest means there must exist some path to follow, but I feel like the entire…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Listened to The fall Off album 3 times while playing this game. Its addicting atleast for me. I like it, I like the way it looked and overall I had fun. Its relaxing when you know what you are doing. My complaint is not having photo modes and the decoration feels very ignorable considering how Big the town gets very quick, you gotta do preplan before hand. Thats why i restarted 2 times. Mining part is also fun. 4/5. definitely recommended
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The steamworld series is an interesting one for gaming because it more or less lacks a main character and stranger yet refuses to tie itself to one genre. The philosophy seems to be approach a popular genre, strip it down to its simplest parts, apply their style to those refined core parts and maybe do a little branching out from there. Steamworld build is no different despite being from a new developer. Critically speaking this means that just about all of their games only really scratch the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played on Game Pass but that service sucks now, so I got it here pretty fun, very nice music!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First playthrough is really nice, and it's an easy but not trivial city builder with some interesting elements in the mines. But that's it! Every other map is exactly the same, with just some randomized areas. But everything you do, build, produce and mine is exactly the same as before and will remain the same in every future playthrough. So imo not worth that price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Think of it as a strategy-lite game. You won't find mega complicated mechanics but sometimes that's a good thing if you wanna just sit back and chill. Gameplay loop is split into two tasks which both unlock progress with one another ; city building, and mine exploration. Both are interesting enough and work quite well, though the mine attacks can be a bit irritating (though you can set up defenses easily enough) It'll take 4-8 hours for the first play through and then there are multiple…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's font size is completely illegible. It's a shame that an experienced studio like Thunderful doesn't have the slightest consideration for accessibility for people with vision problems.

unlabelledView post →Steamworld Build is kind of the perfect game to start the end of the gaming year with; it’s cute but weird and a little dark, mostly chill but just a little bit of stress and danger creeps in over time. It’s a fun little city builder with a lot of personality.
unlabelledView post →It's an OK game. I thought it was like Tropico, but it's more like Anno. The problem is that it's very easy. I got all the achievements except two in 7 hours, but the other two are just a waste of time having to chop 50,000 logs and cut 100,000 roads – a complete waste of time. Besides that, there are several maps, but it's exactly the same thing on all of them, very simplistic and easy unfortunately. I wish this game had more depth and difficulty, like Anno, but I understand it's for a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Intended rating: mid (5/10) This starts out as a great game, having to manage several layers at once could breed some depth... until you've extracted every single valuable resource on said floor. The game itself doesn't really congratulate you on it either, and can turn into hell towards the late game. I've done 2 runs of this game so far, and despite the several maps to explore, I feel extremely tired of it because the loop is the EXACT same across each one. When I finished my first run, it…

But it isn't DungeonKeeper. 2. Underground UI Controls Horrible (8 buttons) 3 sub-menu levels e.g. Facilities->Workshop or Surveillance Facility?->Workshop or Extractors?->Find Workshop Button->Click Surface menu starts with 13 icons and it works. 3. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I could never recommend it at full price because this is essentially one singular playthrough of anno's story mode, with one singular level of dungeon keeper. It's a very well made game but like... They just give you 6 maps to do *one* gameplay on. There's no replay value whatsoever. And that's not even considering the fact that hte game is incredibly easy. I did hard mode no turret just for the achievements and it still basically did not require any input on my part.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very pleasant game. A good mix of two games : An Ano like game where you build a town and upgrade the residences by fulfilling the needs of your citizens And a dungeon keeper like game where you explore, collect resources and defend a mine. Both modes are rather casual and forgiving but very well done. The economic balance on the surface town is simple and requires a very small amount of optimization by applying bonuses collected in the mines or bought at the shop. While the mine is more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a certain part of my brain dedicated to each game that I love - more a general format than anything else, but it takes the name of the first one. This game has a neat overlap between Anno and Dungeon Keeper that keeps things interesting. There's not much needed for the above ground section, based on Anno style games, until you start getting materials from below to process them and progress. Similarly, there's not much needed for the below ground section, except you need processed goods…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its just Anno but with robots Honestly as a person who didn't get anno games before, this made me get it. Graphics are good too? Honestly the games kinda mid, not much replay value. I had fun though, so, eh?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →tl;dr It is fun, that's a yes from me. Personal backstory: My first city builder - city builder, building "real"cities, was Sim City on SNES. I was 29, back then. My only possible criticism: Sometimes I was frustrated I couldn't blast through some rock or some other obstacle above ground whilst building the city, but I grew to appreciate the way that helped me think of different approaches. Nevertheless, I do wish I could blast through and build over even more real estate of the various…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SteamWorld Build is a good game — kind of a mix between ANNO and Dungeon Keeper 2/War for the Overworld, but much easier and shorter. It took me about 10 hours to finish the game on the highest difficulty, and I didn’t really struggle while fully exploring all three levels of the mine. As for the drawbacks, I’d mention the small number of turrets and traps, the production chains could have been more complex, and also the fact that there’s no real point in building rooms — you can just dig out…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun little city builder. Let's be honest : if you played a city builder before, you have played most of them - you build to grow your city in order to get more buildings in order to grow your city. Steamworld build knows what it wants to be (mostly, more on that in a bit) and adheres to recurring standards in the genre : citizen tiers that feed into certain needs of production in order to grow and get upper tiers of citizenry, all while meeting the needs of everyone in the city. Where the…

unlabelledView post →it's okay for the first chapter, there is only 4 level which it consist of 1 level for town and 3 levels for cave where you do the diging. The problem comes after we finished the first chapers where we do another chapter which it on different map, it practically the same with previous chapter which make it didn't add values. Lucky got the game at very cheap price. Want to give 3 stars, but Steam only support recommend or not and it fall to not recommended.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very poor UI, A lot of important information that you'd need to make accurate management of the settlement is nowhere to be found
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A well-constructed game that fits within the vibe and aesthetic of the Steamworld series, but buyers should look closely at the "Relaxing" and "Casual" steam tags because the game is easy to the point of being essentially unloseable. - The maps are so similar that none of them particularly challenge the players placement or town layout. Even if they were, the warehouse system makes it so all items go into a global inventory, meaning consumer products for a certain worker caste can be placed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An adequate city builder, but it doesn't do anything particularly interesting. The story is extremely basic and predictable, so that doesn't help. And there's some rather shallow combat mechanics thrown in that amount to a watered-down tower defense game. Not really worth playing unless you've played all the other better city building games already and want something different. But even then, this isn't going to be very different.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wish Steam included a vote button for games being average. This isn't a bad game per se, it's just alright. The game looks and plays great. I didn't run into any outstanding bugs or graphical issues. Where this game falls flat is in its gameplay loop. This loop is pretty bare bones. I wished they would have cooked this game a bit longer as it has such promising potential to be great. As this game's biggest strength is in its dungeon/tower defense gameplay. The idea of having a city…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is nice for one playthrough. It is too easy and linear for more than that. I enjoy the games these developers create, even when they are a bit on the shallow side like this one and SteamWorld Heist 2.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Steamworld gives its take on the city builder franchise. Pros: -Fun skins and addition of the steamworld aesthetic into a city builder. -The main gameplay of the mines is pretty fun to build out. -It's easy to move around and reorganize your town without wasting resources. Cons: -Different maps are basically just reskins, replayabilty feels fairly low. -The digging portion has basically 4 four levels and then you're done with the game. -Aboveground difficulty is negligible, Difficulty is…
