She's the Man
Viola Hastings is in a real jam. Complications threaten her scheme to pose as her twin brother, Sebastian, and take his place at a new boarding school. She falls in love with her handsome roommate, Duke, who loves beautiful Olivia, who has fallen for Sebastian! As if that were not enough, Viola's twin returns from London ahead of schedule but has no idea that his sister has already replaced him on campus. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →She's The Man isn't really a trans movie, but it's one of those movies that highlights how weird cis people are about gender and how comfy they are being silly about it up...just until the exact second a trans person is involved
unlabelledView post →"And when I close my eyes I see you for what you truly are, which is uglayyyyy! WE'RE DONE!" ICYMI "She's the Man" is out on Netflix. Revisit our review of the movie.

unlabelledView post →oh I'm sorry, is "She's The Man" an insufficiently canonical update of Twelfth Night for you? (kidding, kidding, I just literally watched it for the first time last night, what a trip that film is)
unlabelledView post →Finally getting around to watching 'She's The Man' and I am very much realising Taylor based a lot of the Lover era (especially The Man obvs) on this movie it's WILD
unlabelledView post →She's the Man is truly a film for the she/they's and could absolutely be a cult classic if a single lesbian was involved in production. movie invented feminism. "girls with asses like mine don't talk to boys with faces like yours" peak of cinema
unlabelledView post →If you ever see me with a distant look full of longing, then I'm probably thinking about hit 2006 film "She's The Man" starring Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum.
unlabelledView post →Just watched this movie, so fucking good It reminds me of teen romcoms like Clueless, Mean Girls, She's the Man, and The Princess Diaries ... but WAY more gay and trans I dunno how else to describe it other than if a movie like D.E.B.S. has Disney Channel energy, this movie has Nickelodeon energy

unlabelledView post →Honestly, "teen movie adaptation of classic literature" has a shockingly high rate of great movies. Clueless, Ten Things I Hate About You, She's the Man...
unlabelledView post →I watched the 2006 movie She's The Man in full for the first time and it was hilarious, but the queer subtext in this film is especially interesting given all the ridiculous kerfuffle about trans folks in sports right now.

For those not familiar with Shakespeare, the play "Twelfth Night" centers around a woman dressing as a man for the majority of the play. The modern movie "She's the Man" is based on...
unlabelledView post →so i watched She's The Man today, and it's sort of fascinating how cishet that movie is. a movie with the same subject matter made with a queer lens almost certainly would've had moments where viola's male persona allowed her to authentically express herself in ways she couldn't in her normal life,

unlabelledView post →Lily Simpson made a video about the She's the Man, which is based on my fav Shakespeare play, but have never seen the film (I hate that era of rom coms), but couldn't watch the vid when it was posted earlier today because I was at work and now the movie's owners have it blocked on Youtube.
unlabelledView post →Funny enough, I rewatched She's The Man a while back and the thesis of the movie is that women athletes are just as capable as men. What was safe mainstream white liberal feminism in 2006 is fodder for culture war and anti-trans genocidal rage 20 years later 🙃
unlabelledView post →I know. 😔 I pretend she still looks like she did in She's The Man (2006), the last movie of hers I saw.

More importantly, in 2-doubleaught-6 the play was adapted into the Amanda Bynes movie "She's The Man" 🎇⚽️🎉🧔♀️
