positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Serious guns for serious man. It's ok but don't expect much. It's funny how each game in the series utilizes same sound effects. Anyway music is ok, but I'm missing destructible environment which is not in here. Still makes up for some mini serious game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not be stupid. they say it supports but, this game doesn't support xbox controllers or you have to do some tricks to make it work. nobody knows how, no explanation.. wasted time, hammerwatch is better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thanks, Voksi, for reminding me about this game. Can't say much about the game at this point: we've only started playing through. But so far so good: all gameplay mechanics from 3D Serious Sam present here. Lore and bestiary were made properly. Game reminds me a bit of Crimsonland. But as I've said it's 100% Serious Sam made into top-down 2D shooter. So game could be interesting for Crimsonland fans who want something new and different in genre. P.S. Here is a link to article that got me…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What I liked: Short play sessions Has a variety of weapons and enemies Simple yet still fun gameplay What I didn’t like: player speed is way too slow most upgrades are useless/boring and backtracking to get secrets is annoying because of player speed that ending level boss fight More in depth: I only played Serious Sam 1 HD way back on Xbox, so I don’t know a lot of what makes a game a Serious Sam game, I do know that this game feels like a marketing…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Hammerwatch devs made a Serious Sam game, and that sounds like it should have been a great idea. It falls short though: -Move too slow (even with upgrades) -Weapons never feel powerful or effective, worse against the huge waves of enemies later -Flashbang/electrocute effect where you can't shoot for a few seconds totally misunderstands the spirit of the franchise -It's a boring slog and far too long -Fires of hell raining down from just off screen kill you constantly It repeatedly almost…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THE CONTROLLER SUPPORT IS HORRENDOUS! "Full controller support" my a$$. The controller support for an xbox 360 controller is nonexistent.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game. I wanted to like it so much, I played 7 hours of it. I can't. It's not a bad game. But there's so many things that are frustrating, that it's a death by a thousand cuts situation. That's your TLDR. Now onto the rant. Levels are massive. And mostly empty. On it's own it's not that bad, but you move very slow (unless you equip melee and use all your 7(!) dashes to move around). I immediately put stars into speed. And it's still not enough with how much you're gonna be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game for co-op but it's boring to look for keys without a map.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great for normal play or if you have friends to play it with, but serious frustration occurs if you're trying for achievements or challenges. Unlike normal Sam games, there are no manual saves. Autosaves aren't very frequent. You may eventually want to stop playing, but you have to wait for an autosave to show up otherwise you lose progress. On harder difficulties, you're going to find yourself replaying stretches of the game over and over again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Among those few who tried it, Bogus Detour will probably be remembered as the 2D Serious Sam game that came closest to not sucking (it still sucks). There are clear signs of honest effort here, like an impressive collection of weapons, a leveling system with three skill trees, or a variety of different challenges to tackle, but all of it means little when the core gameplay is so severely lacking. Playing this made me newly appreciate how rich and well-designed older mainline Sam titles were.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is fine, but the controller support is atrocious. Especially coming from the makers of Hammerwatch, since the controller support in that game in particular worked flawlessly. In this one it took me a good half an hour of searching for solutions in the forums for why the hell were my controls inverted. It really shouldn't take me searching forums to find out solutions for this game to work properly, and for that alone I'm giving it a thumbs down.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vere focking noice Bullet Hell/Shoot 'Em Up version of Serious Sam, challenging and fun specially with friends, during a cold cloudy day along with a noice mug of hot coffee! Would buy it twice!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I saw a lot of good reviews for this game. It honestly isn't bad, but dear lord there is way too much running around and backtracking. It sucks the fun out of the game. Also, secrets seem really, really hard to find. There are a lot of hidden corners in the game that have no secrets at all. I wanted to like this game, but the amount of running around traveling just kills it for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Soundtrack and graphics are great. But sadly the gameplay is just not there. It does not play like a true Serious Sam game. And I think it is not even a decent top-down shooter... #1 unforgivable issue: no manual save function and only 1 save file per playthrough. You cannot simply pause the game and resume on another day. You cannot load a previous save, and the checkpoints are invisible so good luck with that. This is made worse by the fact that all levels are massive and long to complete.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun co-op game. + Tons of non-stop action. + Beautiful graphics. + Tons of secrets to find. + Wide variety of weapons. + Wide variety of enemies. + Tons of easter eggs and references. - Abysmal checkpoint system. It's so uneven. - Enemies are beyond bullet-sponges. Their health is insane. - Final boss battle sucks, I hated it. 7/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I play all my games starting on at least hard. Forget that here, it's way too hard on hard. Even on normal you can die sometimes and if you are out of lives guess what? You start the entire level over again. It wouldn't be a problem if the levels weren't GIGANTIC. Seriously that is this game's biggest flaw is that the levels are way way way too big. I should have known better since there's maybe 1 good Serious Sam game in the whole lot of them, and this one ain't it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun charming spin off on the Serious Sam series, but the charm soon ends when you find yourself lost in the level, trying to find a key item, or simply get over run because it's not very balanced. I also had issues seeing spikes, which play a major role in the game, as you need to turn them off before you can go through their area, but they're so tiny and unnoticeable to the point they're basically invisible, doesn't help that you die instantly by touching them either. Overall it's okay, with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A top down shooter featuring Serious Sam published by Devolver so you know it will be a blast to play. The different way to play as Sam from FPS to top down shooter comes a welcome addition. The main levels are fun and detailed to explore, From early on in Egypt to late game on a space ship. The design of the levels are different on each world and the same environment never overstays it welcome due to timely shifts to complete different locations. The game doesn't have a mini-map which makes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having played the Serious Sam FPSs way too much during the past 11 years, i thought Bogus Detour would be great.I tried to like it but i just can't. The series didn't translate well into that kind of game. It's just painful to play, and it feels incredibly sluggish. The character is too slow, you die for dumb reasons. The levels feel obnoxiously long. Slaying loads of enemies is hardly satisfying, because of the animations, the sound design and the unfun combat. Had to give it up considering…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best Serious Sam games of all time. İt includes not be seen new enemies, more weapons, and survival maps. This is probably the best Indie game in the series.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, the game isn't bad. It has a good storyline, a variety of weapons, and the game itself is quite good, but it's not without its flaws. Unfortunately, this game doesn't have saves as such, meaning if you and your partner die, you'll have to start the entire level from scratch. There's a pretty good co-op mode, but the save quirks can make the game feel a bit boring when you're constantly replaying the same level. My rating: ✭✭✭✰✰
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A little bit too hard for my taste, but still a worthy entry in the Serious Sam series. I'll take this over SS3 any other day. If you enjoy 2D shooters, then I guess you should get ready 'cause it's time to get SERIOUS.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dear our developers We are all very grateful to you for releasing such a masterpiece, and even at such a time. Thank you that there are no blacks and LGBT people in the game. You have created a masterpiece and now all you have to do is continue to edit the technical component. Thank you, take care of yourself and keep giving us new games!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Serious Sam's Bogus Detour is another push from Devolver to trash the once valuable Serious Sam brand by dragging it through the mud with craptastic amateur retro garbage/mobile app tier renditions of the once great FPS franchise. Devolver decided to damage the brand this time by making a super crappy console-esque 2D retro pixel top-down shooter. The game was never accepted by the console manufacturers that it was made for, so despite having all the qualities that appeal to excessively…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Serious Sam concept is one that’s well-suited to all kinds of genres beyond FPSes. Really, there aren’t many games that can’t be improved with more guns and countless swarming, screaming, headless monsters. So it should be no surprise that when the Hammerfall developer came around with their own top-down Serious Sam shooter, it was a natural fit. Better still is the inclusion of some more modern mechanics, like dodge rolling and a skill progression system, as well as huge, detailed levels…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I knew I was going to like this game since it very much captures the essence of Serious Sam but I really wasn't prepared for how much I was going to like it. I enjoy top down twin stick shooters a lot even though I don't play them as much as I would like to and honestly this has kept me hooked to completing it and has me itching to play even more. Be it mods, survival, versus, co-op, replaying the campaign, etc, it's just great fun and really deserves a lot of love. Pros: - Excellent gameplay…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game. I've liked most Serious Sam games so far, except for Serious Sam 2. But this game has too many problems for me to tolerate. Landmines are everywhere, including along the critical path, and they are cloaked for some insipid reason. The interface takes up far too much room on the screen, and that includes the weapon wheel. The player speed is far too slow, especially for a twin stick shooter and definitely for a Serious Sam game. Cheap deaths happen far too often,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm so happy for this game having turned out so good, because my issue with some of these "Sam Indies" was they would stray way too far from what made Serious Sam Serious Sam for my tastes, I had yet to find one that clicked, but Bogus Detour stayed very faithful to the source material and finally offered a fresh "perspective" to my favorite FPS. It's a very accurate, Top-Down version of the core games, and that's really what I had hoped for, you wield a big variety of weapons with their own…

First things first: I've liked this game, this game is fun and I enjoyed it a lot...but then it started to show its teeth...and I was terrified. Whats good here, what can make you interested Its a top-down shooter with really, REALLY enjoyable combat in it Cute pixel graphics with lots of destructible props everywhere. You have a prety big weapon…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[Edit: Completed the campaign on Normal, updated the review] Wanted to give this topdown shooter of the Serious Sam franchise a like, but I simply cannot due to its awful game design decisions that are specifically aimed to annoy the player as much as possible. I also later found out from a review from Serious Sams: Revolutions page on some pretty shady history about this game. Yikes. 1. Sam moves very slow. Even if you maxed out the Fleet-Footed upgrade to get +20% movespeed. Get used to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With 9 hours on record as of writing this review, the game is quite short. I did miss a lot of secrets playing, but overall the base campaign was very short and sweet. I will be listing the usual pros and cons as to quickly recommend the game for future buyers. Pros: + Weapons are meaty and responsive, and while the game offers the usual Serious Sam roster of toys to play with the game offers weapons unique to its own roster. From stuff like Quake's railgun and lightning gun to flamethrowers,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Constantly navigating through boring minefields, and destroying batteries that spawns ten enemies when shot at once. And slightly bloated enemy health pools that ruin any enjoyment out of this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very unimpressed for a Croteam / Devolver game. Usually these guys do good work but we fiddled over and over with the controls but all our directions and aims were inverted, with official xbox controllers. The menu is buggy, you need to use the mouse as controllers don't work in the menu, it's difficult to see which menu item you point at, pressing start to go in the options is not working and just makes the screen flash. We ended up quitting and trying another game instead, will likely never…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had some fun, but for 15 bucks I wouldn't recommend it. After only 3 to 4 hours you've seen it all. If you're into highscore chasing by all means, go ahead. Don't know about the multiplayer aspect. On sale, a definite buy for anyone who likes Twin Stick shooters. It's competent, but nothing special. Basically you are looking for different coloured key cards in each level, and that's pretty much it. Most of the iconic enemies are there, same goes for the weapons. The rest is standard fare.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DirectX 11 Topdown Shooter - Combining RPG elements of levelling up Sam, It's epic - and highly recommended and well worth the price. You will be visiting familiar places Sam has been, and it's great to play some local co-op too; Have fun,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is very cool, I like it very much, but... The controller support and main menu are bugged. And it is not optimized at all, this 2D game eats more resources than 3D Sam! Use this configuration for controller, otherwise the game is uplayable: steam://controllerconfig/272620/2106536548
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dont like to play this kind of TSS's without xbox controller... Refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well.. this game is fun. Except almost each level takes almost 30 mins + ( mostly 1 hour ) to finish, and I'm only at the 5th one ( can't imagine others how long they'll be ) Anyways, the rate is mostly because of the cool soundtracks

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing through the game (Or at least without succesfully completing the final 'escape' part of the last mission ), Serious Sam's Bogus Detour is definitely the complete opposite of bogus! This game feels like it was built from the ground up for one purpose. The hardcore Serious Sam fans. The game is truly a fun and unique experience. There's a huge variety of weapons (though that's something you should always expect from a Serious Sam game), some mildly frustrating enemies, and an…

Mines are taking a serious amount of the gameplay, better know how to deal with them and LEARN patience... Review: Serious Sam: Bogus Detour is a top-down spin-off of the classic Serious Sam games. The basic concept remains the same: fight your way through hordes of enemies, only this time from an overhead perspective. The gameplay itself can be fun, but the difficulty is extremely frustrating—even…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm only upvoting this because of the artstyle, the music and the core i d e a of the gameplay which should be amazing and it is on paper. The controls are responsive, the mayhem whenever it happens is great, the levels look great, for the first time ever in this franchise we actually see inhabitants in their respective historical locales, it all fits, there's just one minor yet unavoidable setback to all of this. The developers apparently had massive boners for the concept of constantly and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is quite difficult when played solo, which is largely due to the limited lives it gives you per level and the amount of enemies it throws at the screen all at once. Works fine on Steam Deck, but fails to close when you exit out so you have to force close it by restarting the console. It is an otherwise fun twinstick shooter with a charming high-bit pixel artstyle. Needs a better logo, though, because this basic italic san-serif typeface isn't doing it for me. SAM/10 would Serious…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 A top-down shooter spinoff of the Serious Sam games. Bogus Detour is probably the best spinoff from all of the Serious Sam games, but it's also not without its own issues. Gameplay is what's expected from most top-down shooters - move with keyboard, shoot with mouse, also with an added dodge. Leveling up grants stars to be spent on perks, with additional stars that can be found on each level, and perks add a variety of effects from increasing max HP, armor and ammo to making specific…

Would I have ever finished it without Em solving the actual puzzles? Probably not. Did I want to go binge watch 80s movies after listening to the epic sound track? Defintely. Would recommend.
