unlabelledView post →This was a mock-up game they made in a short time to get accustomed with the new iteration of their Engine. It is the Crusader Kings 2 Alpha, but set in Japan. Clunky, and lacks depth. If you like Japan and know its history you wont have fun with it. Pick up Crusader Kings 2 in a big sale, and then play the mod based on Japan.

It's an eroge, but very different from something like Sengoku Rance - is all consensual and quite cute sometimes. And it's a kickass tactical RPG with an alchemy shop management layer.
unlabelledView post →Sengoku is basically just Crusader Kings but in Japan. And I believe it was most likely a testbed for the CK2 mechanics and systems. But seriously, why does it have better graphics than CK2? :\

unlabelledView post →Honestly, I‘m kind of disappointed that my first outright negative review has to be a Paradox game, considering how much I love all their other works, but when it comes to Sengoku - Just don't bother. From what I can tell it takes most of its aspects from the early release versions of Crusader Kings 2 and actually shares a few of the early bugs from CK2 which have long since been patched by now, which is frustrating. Mechanically speaking, Sengoku leaves a lot to be desired, especially…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played this game now after hundreds of hours of Crusader Kings 2. Kind of funny because Paradox games have a steep learning curve, but if you play Sengoku right after CK2, you won't need to learn anything. In fact you'll have to unlearn some stuff that you know works in CK2. Its gameplay is mostly political maneuvers than wars and battles. While Sengoku has the stable basis of a good strategy game, its biggest problem is a feeling of emptiness and incompleteness.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Damn what I wouldn't give for Sengoku 2 from Paradox... With all of the stability, depth, intrigue, options, and bookmarks from Crusader Kings 2. All of their experience now. They could make a MONSTER of a Feudal Japan game. Ii and Sanada clans ftw. I loved this game. Well worth this low price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is from Sengoku Rance, and IIRC if you listen, you get one more chance, and if you try to continue you get killed and it's a game over.

unlabelledView post →Nope! This one is just too rough with it's bloated UI, super slow pacing, and general lack of polish.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sengoku is not an in-depth historical simulator like Paradox's main-title series. It is instead a very simple model of Japanese feudalism whose focus is placed on fast-paced military expansion, with the end-goal of conquering 50% of Japan and becoming its Shogun. Sadly, continued development of this game was abandoned in favor of the far more robust Crusader Kings 2. Modders have long since cloned Sengoku within that game, making this one redundant at this point. That being said, if you really…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A border line great game from our favorite grand strategy game maker Paradox interactive. This game was made before CKII and instead of diplomacy/plots/managment this game focus much more towards WAR. There is an honor system in place for you to manage and limit the amount of actions you can take but every situation always leads to war. The enemy doesn't stop and wait for you. AI works together to stop you and they work hard. They can be enemy with each for many years but once you show threat…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine an EU4 game where every nation is constantly at war with each other and when you conquer a province it immediately is annexed. The couple of other game mechanics are either completely broken (because it's just blobbing) or don't work (because they didn't play test this). Even if this game was on sale for a dollar, don't buy it. I have never seen such an unfinished game, and even Starcraft custom maps have more depth and game mechanics than this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Date Masamune, Sanada Yukimura, Sarutobi Sasuke, and Oda Nobunaga from Sengoku Basara. More art from the game: www.creativeuncut.com/art_sengoku-...
unlabelledView post →Sengoku Turb is still one of my favorite video game names. Like Beltlogger 9, it sounds like an alernate-dimension insult, maybe for someone who is an overly-obsessed nerd about Japanese history. "God John, you're such a Sengoku Turb."
unlabelledView post →This is lovely thematically. very much in demand from the depth of Japanese culture/history, and has the unique system of 'honour', but the aesthetics are undermined by the beauty of Shogun: Total 2's interface and the mechanics are far inferior to CKII: it's a shallow, weak counterpart to alternatives. I'd highly recommend waiting for Sengoku 2, which is plausible from the popularity of Japan's turbulent military past, it'll likely have higher artistic merit honouring Japanese traditions and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sengoku is a grand strategy game set in real time exactly like Europa Universalis or Crusader Kings. The diplomacy and politics of the game area really good and if you like the time period, the sengoku era or japan in general i highly suggest it. The gameplay/UI is similar to other Paradox games so you'll feel at home soon while playing. Overally i highly suggest it! 5/5.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →New from Game Journal - it’s Gunyuu Sengoku Jidai (SENGOKU RIVALS)! Take charge of one of six factions in the struggle to unify Japan. Simple rules with a bit of historical flavor - we learned and finished a three player game in just over two hours. First to ten areas wins!
unlabelledView post →Final game of the day is the beautiful and fast playing General Orders/ Sengoku Jidai from @ospreygames.bsky.social
unlabelledView post →Just don't. It takes aspects from early EU4 and CK2 but fails to be engaging in any way and is very shallow mechanically. If you want a good game about Sengoku Jidai buy Nobunaga's Ambition or Shogun 2. I would even say that a mod for CK 2 is better then this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended? No. This isn't about the game itself, it's about how Paradox Interactive is handling a discrimination controversy. A player was banned from Paradox's official Discord for using a real photo of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as a profile picture. A moderator called him "controversial" and linked him to the events of 1915 without any credible basis, then deleted replies that pushed back on it. If controversial figures are banned from profile pictures, that rule has to apply to everyone, not…

unlabelledView post →As much as I love Paradox, and as much as I love Japanese history, I cannot reccommend this game. It's simply not enjoyable to play. Constant pop-ups of vassals demanding kokujin titles (seriously, only seconds pass between each time I see that same pop-up) and shallow gameplay turn this game into something which brings me more annoyance than enjoyment. Do not spend money on this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having recently reviewed and rubbished the over-paced Total War: Shogun 2, I move on to another game set in that extremely popular period, Sengoku Jidai, this time it is the aptly named Sengoku. This is a much easier game to stomach. It was something of a warmup for Crusder Kings 2, I believe, and it feels thus: a lightweight, pared back real time grand strategy game with some pacific art and music working together with simple but effective gameplay. Like Shogun 2, brinkmanship and vicious…
