I think the Godfather is one of those films that inspired an entire generation of filmmakers to weave the special bits into everything they created since. The problem with watching it now is that the craft of filmmaking has spawned from it and molded around it, and the things that made it special are now mundane.…

There's something thrilling about the idea that a half-forgotten cartoon or bootleg VHS might still be out there, waiting to be found. The internet eats that stuff up—forum deep dives, YouTube essays, decades-long hunts for proof. But here’s what gets me: the flip side. The stuff that was everywhere. Huge hits. Critically adored. Easy to find. And yet... somehow, no one remembers. Not lost media. Lost…

unlabelledView post →Sam Mendes making Road to Perdition, a movie where Daniel Craig murders a bunch of people because he’s jealous his dad loves another man like a son, and then making a Bond movie where that’s Blofeld’s motivation
unlabelledView post →Comics to film 📚=🎞️ Road to Perdition (1998) by Max Allan Collins & Richard Piers Rayner was filmed in 2002 by Sam Mendes. The graphic novel is notable for its violence, which is reduced in the film. A father-son story precludes the book's repentence tale. 🩸🔫🎩 #filmsky #booksky #comicsky #comicbook
unlabelledView post →It's #LetterboxdFriday! I liked The Prophecy, but didn't think the second one added much. If you haven't seen Road to Perdition that was pretty good, I'd go with that. I think the casting of Hanks detracts a bit but the leads are acting strong in this. #LastFourWatched

Based on a graphic novel which I'd love to read at some point. Seriously, check this one out if you haven't seen it! 4K when?

unlabelledView post →Max Allan Collins loves to recount the story of how he wrote the graphic novel of ROAD TO PERDITION, which was then adapted into a feature film, for which he was hired to write the novelization — and the producers wouldn’t let him add new scenes he’d intended for the original tale to “their” story.
unlabelledView post →Okay, I finally watched 1917 and it may be heavily resting on Roger Deakins' shoulders but I enjoyed your movie, Sam Mendes. I still hate your Bond films. And American Beauty. And you should probably still be shot for Road to Perdition no matter how amusing Jude Law was.

Selling millions of copies in impressive but there are billions of people in the world. And there is also new stuff being released all the time in the worlds of music, tv, film, books and gaming. All of this is jockeying for media attention and peoples attention. These things were important to you as they were part of your formative years or had some emotional resonance., so it makes…

It was hugely influential, spawning a number of films, notably two of which were combined into a single US release titled "Shogun Assassin" in 1980. It would also serve as the basis for the graphic novel "Road to Perdition" by Max Allan Collins in 1998, which was also itself turned into a very good movie in 2002.
