Road 96: Mile 0 is a 2023 adventure video game developed by DigixArt and published by Ravenscourt. A prequel to Road 96 (2021) it is set two months before the original and follows Zoe, one of the original game's eight core non-playable characters, and Kaito, a character from Lost in Harmony, as they navigate their contrasting political views of the country's political and social conditions. We're likely gonna boot the original up too!

unlabelledView post →I didn’t mind Zoe as a character in the original game, but TBH, she wasn’t interesting enough to be one of the main characters of the prequel. What this prequel should’ve been about was the planning of the Brigades’ “protest” in 1986, and the gameplay should’ve been more like the first game, and player choices would’ve meant whether they joined the Brigades or Tyrak.

unlabelledView post →When I posted that Rachel poster the other day, I noted that it inspired an idea. That idea may or may not be for a game that can be best described as "lewd Road 96". And I may or may not have spent an evening put together this proof-of-concept in SFM. Still no commitment. Open to thoughts though.
unlabelledView post →Folks it you want to play a beautifully designed game that subversively takes on the rise of the far right and the threat to democracy, then play Road 96. It's a genius little gem. You play a series of kids trying to escape from a totalitarian regime that's a barely veiled USA. Addictively brilliant
unlabelledView post →If you enjoyed the previous game and came to this one looking for more of the same you're just going to be disappointed. Whilst Mile 0 does provide some additional worldbuilding and character background the core gameplay mechanic this time around is a series of runner/rhythm minigames referred to as rides that are both terribly designed and unresponsive. There are a number of other minigames that are also far less interesting than anything in the previous game. If you're a fan of runner and/or…

Only got to 100% one of the characters so that’ll be the challenge for next time. I can’t recommend it enough, if you enjoy narrative driven games you NEED to play Road 96. Ugh what a game
unlabelledView post →Road 96: Mile 0 When I first bought this game, someone told me I’d be better off getting a refund. I truly wish I had listened to that advice. I can't recall the exact price—maybe two dollars or less during a sale—and I only bought it because I was a huge fan of the first game. I thought to myself: "How bad could it be? Even if it's not as good as the first, it's still the same world." Usually, if I love a game's universe, I can tolerate a few bad entries, but this one actually made me hate…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly you have to be a HUGE fan of the first game to even finish this one. The whole subway surfers gameplay threw the whole game off. The characters are extremely boring compared to the first game. If this game had just stuck to the original mechanics and added new characters, it would be more enjoyable. Its really disappointing to play the first game and come to this mess of a sequel.

unlabelledView post →After finishing Road 96, I played Mile 0 only to be disappointed by the skateboard/roller skating portions. I felt that they took the best parts of what made Road 96 good and tossed those away only to add a mediocre rhythm section that no one wanted. It is too bad as the storyline is almost as good as the original and nicely flushed out the Zoe character. This game needs a whole revamp to make it any where near the original Road 96. Such a major let down after Road 96 in which I consider it…

unlabelledView post →In short: if you liked Road 96 , dont touch this one. This game proves that Road 96 was an accident from the developers. After around 40 minutes, the only thing that was not disappointing was the music. My 2 years old nephew could code a better endless running game which is btw absolutely "wtf is it doing here" (absolutely pointless minigame here that takes up a significant amount of the gameplay. In 40 minutes you already can tell that the scripts are worse than an Uwe Ball movie (this is…

unlabelledView post →The prequel to ROAD 96, a game that I recommend, as long as you approach it with low expectations, since, as you might guess from the other reviews, it does not do justice to the main game. Does that make it THAT bad? No, in my opinion. The story isn't bad, it contributes to giving more information about the lore, while its gameplay replaces the exploration loop and random events with a game similar to Subway Surfers or Temple Run. Yes, it's strange that they chose that approach, but even…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very short game, not near as fun as the first one. It's decent if you buy it with a big discount. Way too much skating. I understand the characters skating when running away from the bodyguard or other parts of the story, but why does a conversation on a rooftop need to turn into a skating level?! Really out of place if you ask me. The nice part is that it's a prequel and you see why the events of the first game take place but I would have liked to see more of the other characters and have more…

unlabelledView post →To me this game feels like the product of a studio receiving a higher budget, but being forced to make a sequel. I felt that the first game had pretty much explored the height of this concept, but Mile 0 takes a step back. The illusion of freedom given in the first game was executed much better, while here it is much more confined and linear. While the world is far more detailed, the graphical appearance isn't remarkably improved. The voice acting still has a cheesy, amateur quality, and the…

I've read reviews, and it only lightened the fire. But after playing more and more, I started to feel why this game has its charm and is definitely worth a try. The game hits really hard with the story Kaito has to tell us. If you played the first game, you are more likely to like this one. For those who didn't catch the plot twist in Road 96, that's where it uncovers. But if you've…

unlabelledView post →Not exactly sure why this game has "mixed" reviews. At the very least it deserves Mostly Positive: 70% - 80% Is it worse than the first game ? maybe Is it different from the first game ? definitely I believe that many people start playing this expecting more of the same game that they played before and when it reveals as something else they get dissapointed. which is reasonable, but in itself this is still a good game that serves its purpose as a prequel. It has good storytelling,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game 8 of 2026: Road 96. I thought this was going to be a narrative game about hitchhiking. I was half right. Although released in 2021, it is surreal how well its political themes and messages aged in 2026. The ending gives me some hope. s/o to @kerron.bsky.social for gifting me this game.
unlabelledView post →A video game review that lives rent free in my brain is a rant that Road 96—a game about escaping a fascist regime—portrayed the dictator as irredeemably bad and the opposition candidate as fine instead of making her an extremist too Object lesson in "scratch a libertarian and a fascist will bleed"

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I honestly don't understand the "Mixed" reviews for this game. If you expect Road 96: Mile 0 to be an exact copy of its predecessor, you're wrong—but that doesn't mean it's bad. The gameplay shifts a bit toward rhythm-based minigames this time around. While it felt a bit weird at first, it's really not a dealbreaker unless you're obsessing over getting an S+ on every track (which, honestly, isn't even that difficult anyway). At its core, the game does a beautiful job unfolding the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't get why this has ''mixed reviews'' to be honest. For me, this was such an unexpected fun. This prequel to the base game brings you closer look at Zoe's (one of the greatest characters in Road 96) life before it all started and her relationship with Kaito, who's trying to prove her wrong about the government. And it's not just Zoe actually, all of the main characters in Road 96 were mentioned or shown there in Mile 0. With some of them you experience more of actual conversations, and the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game made by Tyrak! So I was a big fan of the first Road 96 game as I love its world, characters and story but also its gameplay being an interesting blend of rogue-like, choices and immersive sim elements. I had heard the prequel wasn’t very good with mixed reviews but I wanted to play it and form my own opinion. And I’m not going to even bother with a “What did I think?” question, because I honestly hated this experience. To talk about some of the things I do like first, the visuals for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After finishing Road 96, I had high expectations for Mile 0, but honestly, I’m pretty disappointed. I played for about 2 hours and had no clue what I was supposed to do. It felt chaotic, with no clear direction, just walking in circles and none of the flow the first game had. On top of that, playing on Steam Deck the game crashed. For now, it’s just not my thing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The prequel to Road 96 loses a lot of the charm and choice mattering decisions from the original and instead add mini games or rides that are less enjoyable than the the strength of the narrative and makes you wanting to get it over with more than enjoy it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →they basically turned the game into subway surfers. The characters from the first game were shoved forcefully into the story. Playing through the city areas instead of the wilderness brought the game down. overall this prequel added nothing to the story.

Speaking of the the original, do NOT go into this game thinking it'll be like Road 96. It's very different gameplay-wise and also shorter. Definetly only get this on sale.
