When I saw the videos and description of Ravenmark, I thought I had stumbled on another hidden gem like Valkyria Chronicles. Alas, there are not much hidden gems and most times you will just pick up another little pebble. Ravenmark is such a disapointment that looked good at first glance. A warning should have been the fact that Ravenmark is an iOS port. While that doesn't mean that it automatically has to be a bad game, there are still some implications that come along with it. Games for…

Overall 6/10 Ravenmark is a turn-based tactical game in a fantasy setting. The player commands a small number of units battle after battle as a story unfolds in the background. Ravenmark is NOT an RPG, there are no role-playing elements whatsoever. Ravemmark is NOT a strategy game, as the player does not manage the army and does not make any decision out of the battlefield. Ravenmark is NOT an interactive story, as the player can only read the story, but cannot interact with at all. PROS: +…

First things first : it's a tactical game, it has no strategic layer whatsoever. You are facing predetermined set of tactical tasks to solve, with abundance of story and lore in and between. Pluses : + Polished. Works as it should, no crashes, glitches or errors at all. + Variety of scenarios. There are lots of different battle situations, including sieges, ambushes, survival, chases, 2-vs-1, terrain hazards, you name it. + Difficulty. Technically two difficulty levels present, Easy and…

See below for Gameplay Footage Another very interesting turn based strategy game from Slitherine. This time, you order units into action (up to 6) but when you end the turn, they move (based on initiative) as the enemy moves. This leads to a feeling of unpredictability to the AI and sometimes the best move actually turns into the worst move, especially if your unit moves after an opponent's. The limitation of orders also gives weight to the formation system in the game. Essentially, you will…

Little, yet not too small fantasy tactical game with turn-based combat. Quite enjoyable for some time, just not take it too seriously, like an AAA-project. It's obviously not. Well, it looks cool enough, it plays cool enough - for some time given. The way I see things - it's worth its price. Especially with some discount or bundle. All the negative reviews comes from one major misconception, tied with the store tags for this game. It is not a RPG for one bit, and it is not a strategy game, but…

Ravenmark Scourge of Estellion is an excellent tactical strategy game with any number of different possibilities in terms of combat. The combat is layered quite deep, as is the exception lore of the gameworld itself. In truth, the Codex itself that comes with the game is worth the price alone. I had the good fortune of receiving an early review copy from the folks of Slitherine. Ive played quite awhile and haven't even cracked the surface of the game. The combat system of the game relies…

Disregard the Strategy and RPG tags, this is a turn-based tactical game in a fantasy universe. Literally, there are no strategic or role-playing choices to be made, just a series of different maps. It is however a pretty good tactical game and I find it to be quite enjoyable, but don't expect your actions to make any difference in the campaigns. What breaks it for me is the price. It's just not worth 15 Euro. Make it half that and it's just slightly overpriced. Also, it's painfully obvious…

I got really tierd of hearing, It's a ambush! They are behind us! We're surrounded! It's a trap! For a game catering to people who enjoy strategy those really aren't things that should come up that often. The large problem was that there is no way to gain advantage, that every combat the slate was wiped clean and it would start by announcing just what kind of trap your character had blundered into. Those are the reasons I don't like it but I think that will nessesarily ruin it for you. The…

My first impressions are overall good. As I later found out its a ported IOS game which let me down a little bit. However unlike most Ios games it does not bombared you with microtransactions or anything really. After a few hours of playing it, I feel that they have done exactly what they intended to do with the game. It has a solid interface and smooth animations, however it is a turn based strategy game so the combat or anything else is very small. The lore has the potential to grow on me.…

This wouldn't be a terrible game, if not for the incessent loading to a cutscene, only to load to yet another cutscene, and sometimes, to load to yet another cutscene. If the cutscenes themselves weren't so aweful, that wouldn't be as big of a deal.

Duration: 45 Hours All 59 missions - 3 Star. This was a very enjoyable light wargame. The variety in the missions was excellent. From small battles, to all out slug fests, amphibious assaults, sieges, fighting withdrawals, survival, mortars, trebuchets, minefields... wow. This game provided a lot more than I expected. The missions were wrapped in a deep story with a large cast of characters. The numerous campaigns see you leading different forces as the war unfolds. You even get a long…

If you want strategy and tactics with formations of medieval battlefield - pick Total War. This game has close to nothing in comparison. Every battle is a pre-made scenario in which your troops positions at the start is a complete and total fustercluck. If you still want to give it a try for some inconceivable reason, keep in mind these things: - Formations of 2 units suck - You have command limit. enemy does not - If you told troops to pursue, they will pursue that exact unit, not a…

The title feels fresh, awesome and wicked. The graphics are sharp and no hiccups along with a superb story to follow along to that is coupled with some fantastic characters. Even the music is stellar but matches perfectly with the game. You'll have a ton of fun commanding vast armies but unique abilities to be able for other commanders to help out in the battlefield. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3lqOmfc-ZI

I suggest the mobile (iso) version of the game over the pc version. Why? one of the coolest features was in battles when two units fought you would get a neat cut in of both units art work ( kind of like advance wars) however in this version rather then giving an option to turn it off they opted to take it out comepltely. Is this going to ruin the game? No, but as someone that has played both versinos I feel that this version has lost some of the aesthetics charm that made the mobile version…

I couldn't get into the game. There were too many characters, locations, and events introduced to the player too fast for the player to understand what was happening in the story. I thought the formation mechnics were hard to manage. Units take turns in a numbered sequence but the UI does not do a good job of presenting this.

If it's not on sale for $10 or less I really wouldn't recommend this game. Grand strategy and simplistic combat are not a great mix and that has never been more apparent than in Ravenmark. The game's greatest failure is its lack of ability to provide you information and logistics. You can win the day in a tough battle and the game wont tell you how many waves of enemy forces there are or what directions they're going to come from, allowing them to surprise your general with a random spawn of…

This game fails because the movment system, The AI does not have to guess at all. They will always move to what you have set. So you feel like you are always stumbling with ingame strategy because you are always one step behind. It is also hard to select the exact unit you want in a crowd. Too bad it has a lot of good, yet gets bogged down by bad mechanics. I would not recomend.

The art style is mixed - it looks better in screenshots than it does in the main game - but the gameplay is the thing. And that's where it fails. It's stable. It works. Those are positives. I wish steam had a rating system instead of a simple up or down rating system. I would give this game about a 5 or 6 out of 10. It's not the worst turn based game I've played, but it definitly has its issues. There is 0 character or army management. They don't gain experence, you have no say on what units you get in each battle, they're preset for every scenario. That is my biggest issue with the game. There are other problems though. The way turns and movement work is just really bad, units…

A very pleasant fantasy setting to put your wargame in. You move blocks of units in a grid based system while using the abilities of your 'heroic' commanders which are attached to certain units. The game has many chapters, good troop variety and a cast you'll grow attached to it. It's miniautre wargaming meets Fire Emblem... and I like what I got!

Most of my play of this fantastic game was on iOS from when it was new in 2011. The PC Adaptation works flawlessly and the controls are just as effective with mouse as touch screen. The battles are hard, the battlefield tactics are solid and resemble a table top miniatures game. Ravenmark is one of these solid games which get more disapproval than they deserve. Considering the price tag of 14,99€ it certainly delivers a fair amount of fun and some hours of highly interesting battle scenarios to a fair price. I'm so split on this one. I want to like this game. It has a nicely-tuned rock-paper-scissors tactical combat, every map is a new puzzle that has to be cracked, and quite often you are outnumbered and forced to weasel your way through to victory. And it also has a complex plot that spans for tens of hours. A quality port of a quality tactics title from devs who clearly enjoy tabletop gaming, tied together with a fantasy soap opera. Not an RPG though, it's a string of simultaneous-turn-based scenarios. They're honest about what they're selling and give a meaty enough campaign here that the parsimony of some reviewers is inexplicable.

Lot's of irrelevant dialogue that you have no interaction with, apart from clicking. The dialogue is baffling too. It seems that some people expected more to the game than a series of battles with a storyline - there isn't, but I think the game on its own deserves a lot of respect. I completed Ravenmark: Scourge of Estellion and continue to feel it was well worth playing as a story-rich tactical RPG. However, it appears to have a sequel that is mobile-only. All ad copy I can find focuses on the multiplayer element and it is, most regrettably, F2P. It's a good turn based tactics game with some unique mechanics where turns are resolved all at once so you need to carefully plan your moves factoring in both your own units action speed and enemy movements, otherwise you'll get in your own way.
