Developer id Software
Quake III Arena is a 1999 first-person shooter game developed by id Software. The third installment of the Quake series, Arena differs from previous games by excluding a story-based single-player mode and focusing primarily on multiplayer gameplay. Very unique game that mixes Pokémon & Quake III Arena lol You're a British girl exploring a magical world of elves & fairies... that you capture, equip and evolve to use in FPS arena battles, flying around and casting spells

unlabelledView post →I remember when it was blasphemous that Quake III Arena launched as a game that was predominately an online multiplayer game. Folks had to spin up their own servers. It wasn't like one day id or Activision or whoever decided "you know what, shut it down, we aren't making money on this anymore."
unlabelledView post →I started X-COM 2 after perusing the Steam Workshop for stupid garbage. Now Worf is fighting aliens alongside Homer Simpson, 50 Cent, & Bayonetta, all fully voiced. This is like custom Quake III Arena servers all over again. The worst part is that I think the actual game itself might be incredible?
unlabelledView post →I'd say Ghostware. Perfectly captures early 2000s arena game vibes like Unreal Tournament or Quake III Arena. But it's a singleplayer game with story and full blown campaign! Neat stuff! store.steampowered.com/app/1893370/...

I *STILL* play now and then to this day. It is one of the most perfect multiplayer first person shooters ever made and is still barrels of fun.

There will also be a random game tournament, followed by pizza and a Quake III Arena or Unreal Tournament ’99 LAN party www.tog.ie/2026/06/back...

unlabelledView post →hands down, my favorite game in 1999 was Quake III: Arena. I played sooooo much q3. Tony Hawk Pro Skater was a favorite of mine too, but I played it a couple years late. Now my 1999 favorite is 100% Roller Coaster Tycoon
unlabelledView post →1/5 While brainstorming for a game to attempt making next, the mind immediately went to boomer/arena shooters. Quake III: Arena was a massive part of my teenage and young adult life, and given a choice between that type of game and 2D platformers, I would choose the FPS every time

unlabelledView post →All this talk about the Switch 2 "mouse mode" makes me feel like I'm the only person who remembers you've been able to plug a mouse and keyboard into most game consoles for over 20 years now. You could play Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament with mouse and keyboard on a *Dreamcast*, FFS!

(Don't get me wrong, Quake III: Arena-style bots that teach you the game and are genuinely killable are fine. Millisecond reaction bots are not.)
unlabelledView post →I am listening to the game craft podcast with Mitch Lasky and ignoring the credit grab ( he was pivotal in mmos, shareware, almost everything really) Every so often to bolster his place in the industry he makes strange claims. Was Quake III Arena a giant success that changed games forever? Cuz…

Ya can’t match the balls to the wall action and over the top gore. I know FPS Deathmatch have came a long way but I always prefer these over others. Fans?
unlabelledView post →You should not be allowed to write a video game engine unless it contains a hack at least as cool as the bit shift fast inverse square root from Quake III Arena.
unlabelledView post →Yes! Absolutely. Hard to put a finger on it. But I feel it. Man, Quake III Arena also came out during the N64 lifespan. I played so, so much of that. Probably still the game I put the most time in of all the games I've ever played (though probably quite some fighting games are close).
unlabelledView post →EX: Quake III Arena launched as a full-featured multiplayer game with no additional monetization. Not a live service game. BUT, if the same Quake III Arena launched, and then continued to expand content via regular seasonal paid cosmetic battlepasses that you can earn or pay for, live service game.

unlabelledView post →Bah, my dad's 80 next year and still plays shooters like Call of Duty 😜 Not my favourite type of game anymore though, I think I just grew out of them (for whatever reason) after Quake III Arena. Just find them strangely dull now.
unlabelledView post →Made myself a Quake III Arena website when the game was released, using mainly Dreamweaver. Had no Internet at home at the time so I needed some kind of database to list weapons and stuff, with annotations. Used the family « Bondi Blue » iMac G3. Glorious times.
unlabelledView post →12. Quake III Arena The gold standard of FPS multiplayer. Fast paced and highly addicting. The bot interactions in this game blew my mind when I was young, for a while I thought they were actually real people. I hope we get a remake of this, Quake Live is good but it lacks the blood and gore. :c
