While it does feel a little silly to give qualifications for a puzzle game, I still want to preface that this is coming from the point of view of an absolute Picross addict and someone who decently enjoys Minesweeper as well, because those are the two games that Proverbs bills itself as a combination of, with particular focus on Picross. However (and this is the reason I don't…

Based on/featuring a 1559 painting, so get some Culture as well. Perfect for engaging the logical/rule-loving part of your brain! I’m 13 hours in and counting.

unlabelledView post →A surprisingly good game! I got it as part of a humble bundle and did not expect to get so hooked to it. The entire puzzle took about 22 hours for me to complete. My biggest critique of the game is the ending, there's no "congratulations!" or anything to it, just the game ending in an anti-climatic way as you place the final tile. But regardless totally worth the buy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like Picross or any sort of puzzle game for your phone, that you use to pass time, you have to buy this. It's much better than any other in the genre, it has an unique blend of: interesting proverbs, beautiful pixel art and delightful instrumental music. In theory, it should become boring as this contains dozens of hours of gameplay and the puzzles don't really change. However what changes is you and the patterns you recognize. The more the time passes, the more you feel like Neo when…

unlabelledView post →This game hits a very specific part of my brain. I've been obsessed with Minesweeper-style logic games since I was young. I went from normal 2D Minesweeper to 3D Minesweeper, then somehow to 4D Minesweeper, and after all that apparently the natural conclusion was to return to two dimensions again. Proverbs has that same wonderful quality where, after playing for long enough, you stop consciously thinking about every individual move. You look at the numbers. Your brain recognizes the pattern.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm going to recommend this to puzzle lovers. The game plays very smooth and looks great! The puzzle mechanics are fun to figure out. The proverbs and the artwork are a nice touch. And some of the songs are bangers! The scope of the game was to be a simple calming puzzle and after a while it lacks challenge for me. It almost entirely consists of counting neighbouring tiles and you rarely need second-order deduction i.e. make conclusions based on sets of possible locations. Because of this I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →minesweeper-like game where completing individual sections creates a larger masterpiece. i got this on sale for £1.87 and got 50hrs gameplay out of it, so great value for money!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a simple, yet amazing game. Essentially, this is just Picross, many smaller to larger areas which contain a multitude of numbers. Each number says how many "Orange" spots are in the 3x3 area around it, which is at times cut off by the bordering area. See a 9? All spots around it including itself are Orange See a 0? All spots around it including itself are Red A 6 is on a flat wall? All Orange 4 On a Corner? All Orange, and so on. You just continue to fill the field, area for area, row…

unlabelledView post →As a minesweeper fan, i really like this game, as its mostly just brainless clicking and the proverbs are funny. BUT i wish there was an option to turn off the aggressive zoom when using hint, it zooms in way too much and way too fast. i dont use it often but when i do, i feel the motion sickness coming
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like it. A friend of mine bought it for the group, and it was such a blast completing it besides other people sharing our progress and seeing who could complete it the fastest. The gameplay is a mix of Minesweeper and coloring pixels while also including fun facts. It felt nostalgic and refreshing at the same time. I want to highlight that the 3x3 highlight options and the clear visibility on the edges of a section are really, really good and should be in any game in that genre since,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay so when I saw the minesweeper comparison I was concerned I would not vibe with this game, because i simply do not understand minesweeper. BUT the power of picross compelled me forward! I ended up trying this game and loving it (nowhere near to finishing it lol)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Senatorial collegiality — like all social norms in politics — has become a purely one-sided Game. Instead of non-credulous virtue signalling, what about imprecatory psalms? Also as an ironic aside Proverbs bars rejoicing over your enemies’ defeat while the rest is like ”rain fire upon their kids”

You place everything incorrectly while trying to figure out what's going on. Then when you think you got the segments right the game shows that you made 2+ errors and the game offers a clearence. By clicking on clearing errors it completely removes your whole "progress" giving that feeling the game actually trolling with you, so you just alt+f4 in disbelief... - "To fry…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very addictive... only complaint is how the clear errors is way too aggressive and removes stuff that wasnt an error. Feels like punishment. 5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game bills itself as a combination of Picross and Minesweeper, and yet it is neither; there are no puzzle elements to this game. You never need to consider two or more squares to determine whether another might be shaded; every single answer is directly derived from the result of marking the previous square. In that respect, it is more like a giant paint-by-numbers image, but even then it fails to be that because the way you mark the squares has no bearing on the final image. It's kind of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game Proverbs rules and is on sale. mega minesweeperlike, relaxed puzzle solving. you'd probably be into it if you like picross. no time limits or star ratings or whatever, just chip away at a massive puzzle at your own pace. store.steampowered.com/app/3083300/...
unlabelledView post →Proverbs is a good number-based-filling puzzle game. ~24h playthrough Numerous sections reveal a proverb with a description, which was quite interesting. The pixelated nature makes the picture unreadable at the zoom level you normally use. Two detail levels while zooming make it hard to zoom and pan around to find finished vs open sections.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →rating: 5/5 25hrs later… here i am with 100% completion hehe :D this minesweeper-style game is totally worth it. it takes time to complete the game since it's a big painting divided into sections, each with a different minesweeper puzzle but i loved how you can choose where to start, and if you get stuck, you can go somewhere else before coming back whenever you want. also, finishing a section gives you a proverb, which i found really interesting. definitely one of the best minesweeper games…

unlabelledView post →I can't believe a mix of picross/nonograms and minesweeper feels this exciting. The massive canvas might look daunting, but it's split into self-contained (and thus solvable in much shorter time!) regions which happen to roughly correspond to the titular proverbs Bruegels painted into Netherlandish Proverbs, giving fun little breaks to the play as well as introducing me to some fun new proverbs I'm certain to remember 10 years from now while doing the dishes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a very nice puzzle / minesweeper type of game that you can shut your brain off to do. I play this when I'm tired of working or when I want to tune out, listen to podcast/youtube. I like seeing my progress slowly building throughout the days that I played this. The music is peaceful and match very well with the 'olden times' look and 'proverbs' that we slowly unlock. I like that, unlike minesweeper, I don't "die" here and I can quickly undo my mistakes with a click of a button (when you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall I'd say this is a pretty solid 7/10 second monitor game. While puzzle games exist, I’d definitely brand this more as a digital puzzle than a traditional puzzle game. That said, I found it to be a really chill puzzle to work through on and off over the course of 6+ months. Steam says 35 hours, but actual playtime was probably closer to 20–25 since I often had it open while watching YouTube or doing other stuff. It is very repetitive, and I think I would’ve lost my sanity trying to…

All these years, relentlessly staring at the screen looking for an answer, when simply walking away and coming back, even just a minute later, reveals the frustrating missing piece. I am sure there is a thorough scientific explanation as to why this occurs. But what I am even more sure of was my enjoyment playing Proverbs. Once again, a shoutout to [url=https://www.twitch.tv/dexbonus] Dodger , thanks to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great puzzle game. It's basically the same thing as Mosaic of the Pharaohs by the same developer. I played Mosaic first because I thought the Egyptian theme was more interesting, but I actually ended up enjoying the art and music in Proverbs more. Learning about old proverbs from another language was more fun than I expected, too. For people who haven't played any of this dev's games before: the puzzle gameplay is somewhat similar to Minesweeper in terms of marking tiles as either empty or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"minesweeper plus picross" I thought. "that sounds like my jam. i love picross and minesweeper is what I do when I need a distraction." 27 hours later, my fields are barren. i think only of this game. when i am at work, I think about getting home to play this. when I am out with friends, I'm quietly imagining coming home to play this. I have other games to play, to save this for background playing, and yet, I ignore those, and click "play" on this game. and I'm only 35% done. so I must play.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m really enjoying Proverbs. It’s made me realise two things: 1. Minesweeper is actually the best game ever invented. 2. There isn’t a single puzzle game that I can play late at night that won’t infiltrate my subconscious and colour my dreams.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is super addictive. It's kind of strange when you first start but you get the hang of it pretty quickly. Playing while listening to an audiobook or youtube video has been my favorite way to destress after work.

I finished roughly 2% of the full painting in an hour, so you definitely get a lot of bang for your buck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little timesink, very enjoyable and easy to understand, even if you've never played any similar game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is made in a way where the guesswork is not needed, you don't need to think with your brain outside of counting pixels in 3x3 space. Just you and rows and rows of blocks ready to be clicked with nothing in between, that's how this game is. I've been playing this in short intervals, and for that purpose of brief respite it is perfect. But if you are looking for puzzles that actually require some effort to be solved, you'll want to look elsewhere because Proverbs is more of an…

It's very chill, it's got a fun aesthetic, the lute MIDI-style tunes give good vibes, some of the proverbs you reveal are funny and silly, and it plays perfectly on Steam Deck if you just want to wind down at the end of the day with some low stress logic puzzling. My only real issue was for some reason it seemed to be a bit stubborn about Steam Cloud sync at times, so just keep an eye…
