That is ransom with better marketing. Miss a payment and all your progress gets wiped. No warning. No mercy. Just hours of work gone because you did not keep paying for something you were told you would not have to pay for. That is not gameplay. That is extortion wrapped in a lie. Would refund if I could. Instead I am leaving…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pathetic business decision. Charging for plots in a monthly basis? Seriously? You're in the wrong trade. Go for real estate. Used to be fun when it was slightly more early access than it is today, because you actually got to keep your stuff. I paid big money to get four plots and now they're charging monthly. Want to emphasize social aspect? Ok, but at least give players something to do while... well... socializing. By the way, you actually need people in the game so that socialization can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is gorgeous, and could have been good. I bought the $100 Founder Edition to have 4 plots available, and spent another $100-ish dollars to gift the game to friends. Now that the game is in 1.0, they moved to a subscription based service, wherein I would have to pay an extra $19 per month, in order to keep the 4 plots I paid $100 dollars for. If I pay for one of the lower subscription plans, I only get access to that plan's amount of plots. I see no point continuing to support a…

I've played a lot of building games over the years, Ark: Survival Evolved, Ark Ascended, Dune Awakening, and more. But Pax Dei? Visually, it's on another level. The world is absolutely gorgeous. The scenery, lighting, and atmosphere pull you in immediately. And the building system? It's one of the most flexible and aesthetically pleasing I've ever seen. You can build anything: cottages, taverns, gothic mansions, sprawling…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At this time. After 432 hours of playing, I can not recommend this game... AS A SOLO PLAYER. Yes, I am very well aware that I could join a clan and I wouldn't be a solo player. However, I chose not to because, even a clan player can leave the game. If that player leaves the game and they have set up permissions on storage, you're locked out if you're not at the level they set. Also, if a player leaves who has plaid for a plot and doesn't renew that plot, there goes what ever building was on…

Now I have to pay tax to keep using the land. Not what I signed up for. Devs got greedy. I left. It's not a bad game it's just not worth paying to keep playing, I already invested in your idea. I shouldn't have to pay extra to keep what I already paid extra for.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an empty tech demo of the UE5 engine. Beautiful scenery but empty world. Nothing substantial has changed since Alpha tests 2 years ago and in some ways progress moved backwards. The company laid off 1/3 of the employees so development will move even more slowly now. The long awaited PvP combat update is PvT (Player vs Tree). Devs don't know how to program combat, so the PvP in the game centers around chopping Trees.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DISGUSTING Pay scheme introduced into this game, seriously gross. You buy the game and get your 1 token to have your 1 small plot of land on the map (you can buy a different package to get more plot tokens) but what the steam page doesn't tell you is if you don't pay an extra 4 EURO each month for another token you lose your plot. Tokens cant be earned in game and there isn't much to do in the game apart from build and run your plot so if you don't pay monthly this game basically becomes a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so staggeringly unpleasant to play. It's like the Escape from Tarkov of sandbox games. The developers made every possible decision they could to discourage your enjoyment. It's like they're daring you to keep playing. It's just so brutally unfun. People will talk about the grind, and they're right. People will talk about the economy imbalance where you have to make 20 times more of an item than you can possibly use or sell to be able to unlock the next time. That too. But…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a Master Founder who spent over $100 to support Pax Dei in its infancy, I am writing this review to warn other potential players. I feel completely betrayed, and I believe the developer has stolen from its earliest, most loyal supporters through a classic bait-and-switch. The primary reason I, and many others, purchased the expensive Founder's Pack was for the advertised 4 plots of land. We were led to believe this was a permanent, high-value reward for our early financial backing. At…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pax Dei had the potential to be a top of the line sandbox MMORPG, but they screwed the pooch. Visually the game is stunning and masterful. after almost 2 month of the games release it basically is still an early access game. And this is because of several reasons. 1) the Crafting system is overly "grindy" meaning that the experience points gained for the effort is ridiculous a solo player will spend months gathering materials and grinding out a skill such as Weapon or Armor smith to get to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ANOTHER XSOLLA CASH GRAB STAY AWAY I paid $100 for this game a little over a year ago. Came with game access with 4 plots of land to build on and a few cosmetic things. Was no plan for any kind of mandatory sub model involved. 1 year, 4 months, and 10 days later it has now launched 1.0 and its about as feature complete as the game was when I bought it. Yeah sure, they've added a few more building pieces, new item models, minor bug fixes. The game severely lacks in anything worth while…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nearly 180hrs into the game and this has been the experience: *Grind for 3 hours to fill 4 chests with ore *Grind 2 hours to cut wood for charcoal *Wait 2 hours for charcoal *Wait 2 hours for the ore to smelt into 2 chests of ingots *Craft half a chest of bars, THEN *Farm animals for hides for 3 hours *Wait 2 hours to turn those hides into leather, THEN *Farm 2 hours to turn wood into another component for smithing, THEN *Make 30 items but fail 10. Congrats, you've gained a level in smithing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charging a monthly sub in order to keep my plots that I've already paid for as a founder? Yea hard pass. This game has some great visuals, good crafting systems and with more content, probably be able to foster the kind of community play the devs envision. Could have let founders be the seeds of the world by honoring permanent plots. But no, a short sighted short term cash grab is the plan.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself seems to be good... but you buy the game and then have to pay a premium to be able to build a house... that's kind of extreme... I have no problem paying a subscription... but this is extreme in that you buy a game in which the main thing is to build and you can't unless you pay an additional premium... I refunded the game, so if this changes I might consider buying it again
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played since day 1 of EA and never once heard it would cost a monthly fee to retain my plot. Now I am being told that was always the plan. Wish it was clearer. Deleted game and sent ticket to Steam support asking for games to make this clearer in EA. I never would have bought the game if I knew.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They want you to buy the game and then pay for a subscription to build a base in a base building game what a joke
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On top of purchasing the game, you have to pay a sub to have a plot to build on???? I think not. Make the game FTP if you want to charge to even build (in a BUILDING/survival game?), or stop with the stupid sub.... Waste of time, waste of money!!!!!!!! 0 stars!!!!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →why would you wanna play a game you gotta pay for land in game the game is fun as hell but paying for land is bs i give it a 1 star because of that
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pax Dei—what a shame. Ive got 100s of hours via the launcher before they forced me to transfer to steam because they cant afford there launcher anymore. At this point, it’s mathematically impossible for this game to survive. Best-case scenario: the 3,500 founders currently playing all have Master Packs and all choose to pay for all 4 plots after their free month. That puts revenue at roughly $66k/month—to cover staff, servers, delusional management, and millions in investor obligations. We…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This Developer has taken this game from a boring janky building game to a boring janky building game you have to pay a subscription for to build. Keep in mind I paid real money to buy the game (one plot), and purchased an additional plot in order to explore the one good part about the game that sets it aside all the other online multiplayer slop. That transaction was complete. Now, if I want to continue wasting time on this (mid at best) game, I'd have to pay subs for the land I'VE ALREADY…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought the Master Founder Pack way back to ensure I always had property. I paid $100 for a game I still need a subscription to. EW, Such a mistake, if I could get a refund I would. Save your money! This game is laggy glitchy money pit. SAVE YOURSELF.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I genuinely believed this game had the potential to be something special, so I invested in four plots and even bought copies for my brother and sister. But now, I’ve returned to find that access is locked behind a premium subscription. The plots I paid for are unusable unless I upgrade to an expensive tier—this feels like a bait-and-switch. It’s incredibly disappointing and feels like a breach of trust. Practices like this should be illegal. They not only alienate loyal backers but also damage…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I paid $75 for the tippy-top version of the game when 4 plots of land to build on were included. I find it ludicrous that hey are now charging extra for even one plot of land. It was fun and all, but not worth a monthly fee just to have your own place to craft. Uninstalled and won't play again unless they change it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the challenge and grind... That being said, I'm wasting my life away in this vast, beautiful world. Wife said I have to stop playing and get a job. But she made me a deal that if I can get 50 likes then, I can keep collecting unemployment and play for another 1000 hours. Help an addict out?

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Predatory bait and switch from the developers! You pay for the game depending on how many plots you want in game. NOPE!! You lose your plots after a month and are expected to pay more real money to keep them. Steam should be refunding us for this game ASAP! This is 100% theft! These developers have lied and STOLEN from us!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the biggest mmo letdowns ever. The game "launched" to 1.0 completely unfinished in what appears to be a cash grab. I played for many hours when it was on their own launcher and over the course of 2 years of testing, they changed very little. Combat feels like it's from 2008, there are no social systems in the shme despite it being advertised as a social mmo. It's a glorified UE5 graphics demo really. There is no economy, basic features are missing, and the pricing to play is insane.…

Kept running ran into a woman building a house, I told her I was looking for people to play with. She took me back in the same direction I came from. Introduced me to the guy I just met. An hour and a half ago. Left them and walked a different way for 2-3 hours. Lots of big empty beautiful cities with absolutely nobody and nothing in them. I would barely…

Do this again. and again. number go up. do it again, number go up, do it again, number go up. Log in, chop more trees. First PvP content is released. Waited 2 years for it. You chop your enemies just like a tree, and…

I was excited to finally dive in, but it turns out my 4 plots are only available for a single month before I have to start paying again. That’s not what I expected when I supported the beta—I paid nearly $100 for those plots, and now, at launch, I only keep them for 30 days before I’m expected to spend another $20 or risk losing my progress. This feels like a bait-and-switch and a clear cash grab. Really disappointed with this monetization…

First and foremost, most of these issues were a problem since the beginning of beta release. >There is no proximity voice chat, there is a voice chat but its a channel people have to join, which is basically the same as a discord…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved playing this game in early access and bought the expensive pack. I was under the impression I would at least get a SINGLE PERMINANT PLOT IN 1.0 considering a plot is REQUIRED TO PROGRESS! Nope! You get a plot token for a month! A subscription is all but required to play! Considering the game is not finished, paying them more money would be insane! Taking the money you would spend on this game and lighting it on fire instead is a better value proposition because then you would at least…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The biggest issue with this game is its monetization, particularly the monthly subscription — and it feels especially bad for players who paid for early access. Early access was presented as a way to gain an advantage through land plots, yet there’s effectively no real way to keep or meaningfully use those plots unless you continue paying real money. That makes the early access purchase feel misleading rather than rewarding. Instead of respecting early supporters, the game’s business model…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started to enjoy the game. There is something here but not with the current deployment. Refunded for the time being. Crazy idea. Drop the subscription system, allow a solo mode, open it up for players to run their own servers, and give the ability to make mods. Watch your sales soar. I would be the first one to buy it again at full price. Right now it just seems like they are trying to limp along a wounded horse. Good bones but there is nothing "special" here. Graphics are nice.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →another half built game, have fun paying for your monthly digital plots for 0 content, next to no loot + huge grind for nothing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In a brazen cash-grab, the devs rugpulled Pax Dei's founders by making us subscribe to content we already purchased. Do not support dishonest monetization by purchasing this unfinished game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Taking away something I bought already and putting it behind a paywall is tantamount to theft. This company is run by THIEVES. They charge more for what we already own and did not provide anything new at all. The game is in nearly the same state as it was at beginning of EA. This company deserves to be shut down and shamed into obscurity.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No mounts two years in, very few NPCs and wildlife, zero story, one of the worst crafting systems ever devised and no working economy, but what do these clowns do? "Hai guize, we're introducing birds!!111!" And the worst is? They somehow managed to be late on delivering one of the most absurd "new content" patch ever seen. This game is dead and it's all on Mainframe. I'm not sure if they took the most mentally challenged devs from CCP, Blizz, Next Games to create this company but I don't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game has a lot of potentioal but unfortunately the plot (base building) system is complete trash and really puts a damper on the whole game, and when one of your plots doesnt renew and you loose all the work you put into it so you submit a ticket, the devs will blame you instead of helping you. complete lack of support. Dont waste your time on this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game was fully released due to financial pressure. The game should still be in early access, as it isn't even close to a finished game. Pax Dei itself is gorgeous. The landscape, character models, and rest of the graphics are to die for. It really is a shame that the game is so beautiful, yet in a state of collapse. Due to the significant cost to play the game the player base if virtually non-existant, so there is no economy. Have had my market going since the game released and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You buy the game, and then you are required to buy a premium subscription + pay extra for the ability to have a base that must be renewed every month, and if you don’t renew it, the base will be destroyed!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HOW crazy that you buy the game but yet you have to pay a monthly fee to build inside your OWN game? RIDICULOUS
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game. Played the Alpha and now the 1.0 release. The alpha was great to see come out in stages and to be honest it wasn't long between core changes. Was also very pleasantly refreshing that we were kept up to date with why, how long and the impact changes will have. They've also been great with listening to feedback whilst keeping their own vision for the game in tact as opposed to just catering for whingey players. We have about 60 of us currently playing in our Guild, loving it.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I see a lot of people making false statements in their reviews about Pax Dei. They say that you have to subscribe in order to keep the game. False. They say that you have to subscribe to keep your building plot. False. Those are the two big lies told in several of the reviews I have seen. Here is the truth. You can purchase the game outright and play it for as long is you want without ever subscribing to a monthly charge. You receive one plot token to build with when you purchase the game. That…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →love this game. pointers to devs though -make ONE plot free for as long as the person shows up (so people wo don't have the money can still store goods) -make bigger plots cost monthly money (so die hards can enjoy the space) -add stores of NPCs (if no one plays your game selling and buying is useless) YOU have a fantastic game with no players... beautiful bases built that sit empty. You at this point are your worse enemies.. ALSO Grace that helps you keep your base is not at all easy to…

Im not in a monster clan, just a few friends that have been playing games a while. We just couldnt progress. The player economy is a joke. Big clans kill it for everyone by crashing the market since they can sell cheap or horde resources so no one buys from you. The biomes are just repeated everywhere over and over with the enemy types you have seen again and again. Gear breaks down, but as a small…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →321 hours played. Strengths first. The crafting dependency chains are deep, base layout planning actually matters, and long-term progression genuinely rewards the time you put in. There’s a strong sense of persistence in the world. When you build something, it feels like it matters. I’ve also brought two friends into the game. They’re enjoying it just as much (arguably more), and they’ve already put in more hours than I have. That doesn’t happen if a system feels predatory or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sorry, but I have to vent somewhere. I'm incredibly fed up and furious with this game. This game isn't relaxing; it drives you crazy. You've spent an hour filling your limited inventory with impure iron and then some bronze for nails and spear shafts. After another hour smelting and refining those ingots into iron bars, then iron spearheads at the smithy. After hunting some boars, drying the leather, and making some straps, you have enough to craft three two-handed spears on the Arcadia…

That said once the wipe happend (twice) before we went into persistence it just became an endless grind with absolutely no new content; Im now playing No Mans Sky while waiting for Light No Fire... I wont be returning to Pax.

I do not think this is worth the subscription. I know what a social sandbox game is - I played eve online. I will not sub for now. I hope pax dei will survive, get better and is worth the money some day. BUT this is not 1.0, this is still alpha. Devs, please, do not waste this potential. Rather, the game has been released for nearly a year in 1.0 now ; I came back to SEE what they changed, wondering, I do see they made one plot possible to keep free through Grace and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The need for a subscription to actually play this game is a joke. If you don't you better be 100% committed or unemployed to maintain a plot. Maybe I am wrong but I was grinding for 8 hours and I logged back in several days later and cannot get a plot now.
