60 of 128 · most liked firstPaper Beast: Folded Edition A nature-based puzzle game containing mystery, intrigue and some challenging puzzles to boot. Easier to read review [url=https://saveorquit.com/2020/10/30/review-paper-beast-folded-edition/] Here Paper Beast is a highly original title with a poignant message that can be interpreted in many ways. The cruelty and majesty of nature plays a prominent part in the story and you must observe and understand it to succeed. This is the non-VR version of the game.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paper Beasts is an atmospheric physics-based (and ecosystem-based) puzzle game. It's comprised of a good amount of levels, each with a unique problem to solve in them, and each one can be figured out by simply observing the environment and how creatures interact with one another. It's simple but rewarding. Even once you complete the game, you can go and enjoy the sandbox mode, where you can play around with everything you've seen in the game. This game is short and pretty linear, but it's an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a hard time describing how I feel about this game. It's beautifully wonderful and deliberately mind-opening. It's a completely unique adventure. It's like someone took the works of Salvador Dali, H.G. Well's "The TIme Traveler", and a weaponless Half-Life and stuck them in a pot together and let them slow cook, forming this beautiful medley. If you like single player puzzle/adventure games, this one is a must. It's that unique
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paper Beast is okay, but I was really expecting a lot more. I generally enjoy walking sims and art games, and this one falls squarely into that Journey-style genre where you are dropped into an empty world with no clues as to what to do or where to go, so you just wander around looking at occasionally pretty stuff trying to figure out whatever the developer thought would be the intuitive path forward. There are some puzzles. There is nice music. There is the obligatory scary-but-not-really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visually I was hoping for something a bit more, despite the interesting art direction. It's no Journey. It has the feel of an early VR demo, but where those typical 'artsy' attempts are a veneer to walking sims with nothing of substance, this mostly succeeds as you progress through the light puzzles. It justifies its pleasant existence. It's not so much an evolution of ideas in 'From Dust' as it is an application of some of them. Certainly the creatures have a lot more charm to them than…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It seems like a good game but the grab physics are impossible to play with this was a game meant for vr and that fact that you need to pay for something that make the game bearable is a no for me if the vr ever becomes free I will change my mind
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paper Beast is a short and sweet adventure that pits you against the odds alongside a cast of lovable characters that steal your attention and your heart within moments of meeting them. There are moments when it feels like you're fighting against the guidelines of the game and the very mechanics of a few of the levels, but you're playing this game for the story and the atmosphere over anything else. Besides a couple or short snags, specifically with levels with wind in them, I enjoyed my time…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paper Beasts is truly a strange and engaging experience. The creatures manage to feel alive despite being little more than moving origami, and you can even find yourself growing attached to them despite their lack of facial expressions based solely on their movements and vocalizations. You can tell when the prey is scared, you can feel the pain in their screams when the predators snatch them away to feed. You feel sorry for the creatures when they suffer and, in story mode, it drives you to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just... Wow. This is quite a thing. Is it a game? Is it a story? Is it art? Is it original? Is it beautiful? Is it ambitious? Is it emotional? Is it surreal? Is it incomprehensible? Is it totally understandable and relatable? Is it, fundamentally, worth the money? It is all these things. It is bloody brilliant, is what it is. Utterly utterly stunning. After only one play-through it overtook Journey as my GOTY nomination. 'Nuff said.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paper Beast - Folded Edition is an artsy fartsy kind of game that has decent graphics but very little substance. The beginning is very weird with flashing lights, made my head throb and seemed highly unnecessary. I don't understand all the positive reviews, it is very bland and boring game play wise. The controls are extremely clunky and frustrating. If you think you want it do yourself a favor and just don't. Not recommended
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although it was originally made for VR, months later, they released this version for those of us who don't have it, and honestly, it's really good; you can enjoy it just as much. (There is a VR DLC upgrade also for this version). As for the game, it's a very abstract adventure, with puzzles for which there is no help whatsoever. You just have to figure out what to do to move forward, manipulating objects and making use of creatures, which have different behaviours and purposes. It stands out…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →man, i dont even know what i played
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad game,It is really easy to get stuck and glitches alot and you just follow a slow creature, boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful game. Marches in the beat of its own drum with no desire for mass appeal to gamers. It demands attention and patience and you either accept that or don't. Just as great without VR (props to the devs for making the decision to make it). I'm glad that Eric Chahi is still around in the game dev world, it doesn't matter how often he releases a game. Like with Fumito Ueda, all that matters is that he's somewhere around and pops up every once in a while to say hello.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6 for the art direction, 4 for the content. In overall, sorry, it's a no this time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's kind of a systemic sandbox-puzzle game, and it's kind of a surreal, abstract adventure, and it's kind of awesome. Since the puzzles are based largely on physics, fluid sims and creature AI, it's naturally got a bit of jank to it, but it's also got a lot of charm and mystique.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That was a weird experience. Its felt more like an art exhibition, than a computer game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A strange and immersive world. Interesting to see a depiction of an ecosystem without biology. I appreciate a story that can make me feel attached to characters without needing to give them faces and voices.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →idk how i loved this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mechanics of controlling the items in your hand is so absurd. The items doesn't stay on middle of the screen and you can't see what you areholding after you turn your view to another point while holding the item. Gameplay feels all wıong and make me feel sick. Can't recommend the game because other than contolling and movement, there is not much else say about cons. Graphics are nice but not that much. No voice acting or cinematic. Some puzzles are nice but that's all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paper Beast is a beautiful and atmospheric game that takes lots of notes from Eric Chahi's previous game, From Dust, and wraps the overall tone from that game up in a new, abstract package. Divided into closed-off setpieces and levels, this game operates via a very dream like, ethereal train of logic that, while a bit obtuse, is very satisfying to follow. There is a heavy emphasis on using the game's physics engine to solve puzzle; elements such as water, wind, heat, ice, et cetera, must be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Pretty game, something I look forward to replaying with VR some day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game changed my life by awakening my inner love for surreal art and taking care of wildlife. I love the beautiful artstyle and I love helping the adorable friendly creatures and its just such a cute, magical, surreal, and immersive experience!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a puzzle game in a relaxing universe. Technically even a superior one, environmental physics feels like a tech demo. However, this comes with a VERY slow pace. You're literally watching turtles walk by.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not very fun. Bit of an out there experience that doesnt feel worth the long clip scenes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not sure, what I'm supposed to do, but the art design is just incredible!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →thought is would be a big open world, its mostly being stuck in a cave with almost nothing trying to get to the next tiny cave room. everything from what i played is just sooo empty. if i could sum this game up in one sentence move is not available for now! 3/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The plant do a succ.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's visually interesting. It's uniquely experimental. I'm sure in VR it was really great but I just got a bit bored and couldn't push myself to see what was further along in the non-VR version. For me it's simple, I'll recommend it if I want to finish it. Maybe I wish it was more focused in what it wanted to be. Have a more defined vision. To me it was more of an experience and I wanted more of a game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i dont know what ım doing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fantastic adventure of imagination and aesthetics! A bit flawed at times (UI/UX-wise) and I was getting stuck on couple puzzles. But the uniqueness of it makes up for everything. It's one of the more unusual experiences (and I don't get these often after 35+ years of gaming). And that was at -90%, what a deal!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I suck at puzzles, hence why I finished this four years after I got the game. Still really cool tho :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →incredibly good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wasn't sure what kind of gameplay this was, or if it was a game at all. Hence the long buyer hesitancy. Now I know: Puzzles. If you've been wondering as well, here's how successive levels more or less work: First you explore the map, in first person view (there's also a separate VR version,) to spot what's interactive. If it's new, you try and figure out what you can do with it, if it's needed to progress or just an extra toy. If not new, you might still find new combinations for it. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels more like an art display than a video game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good. £13 good? Nah. Graphics are playful. Interacting with objects is fun for all of 3 minutes. The intro cut scene is so incredibly long and out of place. The game seems to encourage discovery, but it also forcefully drives the narrative. The Camera doesn't turn with you when you pick up objects, instead only turning when the object reaches the edge of your screen, meaning you can't quickly move objects around, instead having to wait for your camera to slowly turn. The forward and backward…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surreal and stylistic without being complex or indecipherable. The puzzles are simple and only seem to be there as reason to engage with the environment and unique lifeforms. Pros: Visually fascinating Good use of audio Dynamic environment works well Easy and intuitive Cons: Perhaps too simple. Too short - I feel much more could be done with this unique world. This is more an interactive experience than a game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very visually appealing. The gameplay is really unique and fun. It does a really good job at telling a narrative in an offbeat way. If you don’t like puzzle games then this game is not for you. Some puzzles are more difficult than others but I never got stuck on anything. The sandbox mode is a nice addition and I thought it was fun to play with.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Possibly the most odd and enjoyable game experience I've had. Just messing around with the physics for ages was enough to make me love this game, let-alone the absurd experiences this game forces you to go through. It was worth every cent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this didn't quite make the vr->monitor game transition unscathed - there are some weird restrictions on movement, and moving objects around can feel a bit clunky. but this game is kinda astounding - it's like everything i wanted but never got out of From Dust, Viva Pinata (because i never got to play that one). it's like if zenoclash was more sparse and peaceful, it's like if Spore let you actually watch and interact with fun weird ecosystems and individuals. there are certain frustrating…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very weird, wtf kind of experience, but also very interesting and fun to play. If any of it was symbolic, rather than pure artistic vision, I don't really care. I didn't get any of it. But the game looks quite nice though, has some interesting gameplay mechanics, has a great soundtrack working with the atmosphere, and I just had a good time playing it. The overall pacing, however, was really stalling for time. In multiple, let's call them interactive scenes, I was wondering whether I'm…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this for less than two bucks and would have been happy if I'd payed full price. I haven't played sandbox mode but really enjoyed the puzzle/narrative mode.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very curious sort of puzzle-adventure game. While I haven't tried the VR version (for a lack of being able to afford/set up space for VR), I think it got ported over to standard controls well enough. The visuals are captivating with the abstract paper aesthetic, and trying to work with the creatures and environment to accomplish your goal is good fun. The physics are amazing. Sandbox mode is also plenty of fun with making your own little ecosystems, but I wish there was more terrain to play…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=store.steampowered.com/app/1403830/Paper_Beast__Folded_Edition/]Paper Beast: Folded Edition trades its native VR scheme for awkward gamepad controls, while preserving its creative abstract world exploration. A unique world emerges around a highly imaginative art direction in low-poly aesthetics, beautiful numerical cumuli, stunning environments in a soothing color palette, and inspired living origami. There is nonetheless a sense of budgetary constraints that permeates throughout the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is for a certain type of player. Its very pretty. And I can appreciate the art of it. The reason I don't recommend it is because of the controls and game play. The camera doesn't follow you well at all. Things are kinda hard to grab. And within 20 minutes of playing I glitched myself out of the world and had to go back to the menu. I promise I wasn't doing anything crazy either. So overall, up to you. It is still a very pretty game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has some fun surprises mixed with a tedious linear sequence of puzzles. It's good enough to just barely be worth playing, but not good enough to be worth buying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really artsy and creative, cute and somehow scary at times.. Loved every moments from start to finish ♥ Recommend a thousand time to everyone who enjoy creative stories ! ♥
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A wonderful fever dream would 10/10 recommend
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bored and confused :| Received in bundle from Humble Bundle. Maybe it's more immersive in VR, I don't know I didn't enjoy it. It's an interesting concept, an art piece, but as game I cannot recommend it. "The game is fun, if it's not fun, why bother" -Reggie Fils-Aimé

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →God, why did I buy this game? People are starving, and I spend money like this
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →We live in a floating rock in space.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I LOVE this game, played the entire thing yesterday and then spent hours in Sandbox mode. The fact that they released Folded Edition for users without VR headsets is amazing, and I'm surprised that both versions of the game (VR and Folded,) don't have NEARLY as many players as they should. The puzzles are usually quite easy, the story is intriguing, the graphics are VERY visually pleasing (especially on Ultra render settings), and it gives players a reason to actually play through the Story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visually and Functionally the most compelling game I have played in a while.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am asbolutely smitten with this game. The world feels so simple and larger than life at the same time, and I instantly fell in love with all the quirky creatures and just wanted to protect them. I love the style of living paper creatures in a desert world and how you can interact with nearly everything and shape the environment. Really great use of physics. Some of the ”puzzles” were tougher than others, but I was never truly stuck. It was just a matter of grinding my gears and just keep…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first I thought that this wouldn't be able to run on my PC. Since it's in the middle of low end and medium end. But it turns out it works on my PC! Sure it is a little choppy here and there. But Its a good game you should try to play at least sometime in your life. But anyways I really recommend this game it's cute, surreal, and beautiful at the same time. Seriously check it out it's good. That's all from me, bye!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →> Voxel physics > Coherent Aesthetic > Simplicitic Beauty > Cute and Clever Puzzles > Emotion and atmosphere evoked through show-rather-than-tell > Diverse organisms that make up genius and creative ecosystems > Separate editions for VR and Standard. Yep, this is a small masterpiece. Well done.
