unlabelledView post →Robert Redford was a very good actor. Robert Redford was a driving force in promoting independent film and independent film makers. Robert Redford was an environmentalist. But for me, Robert Redford was important for this reason: He directed the movie that saved my life, Ordinary People.
unlabelledView post →Breaking news: Donald Sutherland dies at 88. The actor had a stunning range in shows and films such as "Ordinary People," "The Hunger Games," and "M.A.S.H."
unlabelledView post →This is Robert Redford on the set of Ordinary People, directing Donald Sutherland and Mary Tyler Moore. Redford was not in the movie. This is just how he dressed himself to go to work. Absolute fucking legend.
unlabelledView post →Robert Redford made such an incredible impact in film acting in classics like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, and All the President's Men, directing films like Ordinary People and Quiz Show, and founding Sundance. What a legacy. I'm very sad to hear of his passing.
unlabelledView post →Books to film 📚=🎞️ Ordinary People (1976) by Judith Guest was adapted to film by Robert Redford (RIP) in 1980. The film is regarded as a faithful adaptation which tells the story with economy. Some subtle changes are added to the acclaimed film for dramatic presentation. 👤𐀪🫂 #filmsky #booksky
unlabelledView post →Robert Redford’s achievements can’t only be counted by the fantastic movie roles he played. He was equally brilliant as a producer and director; e.g. ‘Ordinary People.’ He set up the Sundance Institute and actively supported smaller independent films to find their place in the world. What a guy!
unlabelledView post →Robert Redford, Oscar winning director and screen icon, is dead at 89. The Sundance Institute founder was known for his work on ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,’ ‘All the President’s Men,’ ‘Ordinary People,’ among many other films.
unlabelledView post →Robert Redford has died at 89. Among his many roles as an actor, he played Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward uncovering the Watergate scandal in “All The President’s Men.” He won a directing Oscar for “Ordinary People.” And he helped found the Sundance Film Festival.
unlabelledView post →Damn… Robert Redford, the leading man with the golden-boy looks who won an Oscar for directing “Ordinary People” and later became a godfather for independent film as founder of the Sundance Film Institute, died Tuesday in Utah. He was 89. R.I.P. SUNDANCE KID 😔 variety.com/2025/film/ne...
unlabelledView post →To honor Robert Redford, I want to rewatch (what I think is) his best film, which he directed: "Ordinary People," but it is so brilliant and so very sad that I don't think I can.
unlabelledView post →Astonishing in everything he did, but truly baffling that he was the only Ordinary People cast member to be snubbed. He's riveting in that film. Which I think is just All Right!
unlabelledView post →Fave film for each year of the 1980s 1980: Ordinary People 1981 and best in show: Raiders of the Lost Ark 1982: The Thing 1983: Return of the Jedi 1984: Starman 1985: Ran 1986: Aliens 1987: Bagdad Cafe 1988: They Live 1989: The 'Burbs Yeah, I kinda like this John Carpenter guy, could you tell? 🎥
unlabelledView post →Most egregious omission in Oscar history? In 60+ year career, great Donald Sutherland never received single nomination! BOTD 7/17/1935. Think about that! Not MASH (70), KLUTE (71), ORDINARY PEOPLE (80)? He's so good, so often, maybe we just expected & undervalued his brilliance. #filmsky 📽
unlabelledView post →One word... Redford Actor, director, philanthropist, environmentalist, & champion of indie cinema, Robert Redford was the consummate movie star & humanitarian. Missing him on his birthday, 8/18/1936. His Oscar-winning directorial debut, ORDINARY PEOPLE, is one of my all-timers. #filmsky 📽
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching ORDINARY PEOPLE (1980). Director: Robert Redford. Mary Tyler Moore, Donald Sutherland. Redford's (RIP) devastating examination of loss, grief & alienation won Directing Oscar. Timothy Hutton (in all-timer performance) won Supporting Actor despite being indisputable lead. #filmsky 📽
unlabelledView post →Recently? Green Book. Of all time? Dances with Wolves. Everyone gets weird about Ordinary People beating Scorsese's Raging Bull, but Ordinary People was a great movie and deserved it. No one ever bitches about Dances with Wolves beating motherfucking GOODFELLAS tho. Fuck DwW for that.
unlabelledView post →Robert Redford was a man of great integrity. I liked everything about him. I've never forgotten watching his directorial debut Ordinary People on release in the USA, still raw from the death of my Dad. That film really spoke to me about the things you should always articulate. RIP
unlabelledView post →When honoring the great Robert Redford, don't forget his brilliant directing work including Best Pic, Best Director winner "Ordinary People" #TCMParty
unlabelledView post →Sutherland was never Oscar nominated, which is a travesty. He is the title character in KLUTE but Jane Fonda (deservedly) got the glory and everyone got nominated for ORDINARY PEOPLE except him (even though he’s the reason the movie works). And he’s secretly the best actor in JFK
unlabelledView post →Two of the pope's four favorite movies are explicitly anti-Nazi (maybe three, I haven't seen ORDINARY PEOPLE).
unlabelledView post →Robert Redford has died aged 89. He starred in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, All the President’s Men, Indecent Proposal, Avengers: Endgame, and directed Ordinary People, A River Runs Through It, Quiz Show & Legend of Bagger Vance. He was also a founder of the Sundance Film Festival.
unlabelledView post →Sutherland’s Ordinary People (1980) was a major inspiration for me going to film school. He was a giant among giants. A true loss. 💖 #filmsky
unlabelledView post →Happy #LetterBoxdFriday. My #LastFourWatched: Ordinary People/The Villagers (2018), The Dream Factory (1997) Lotus Lantern (1999) The Outlaws (2017) I'm anti-violence but pro Ma Dong-Seok hitting everyone/everything. A conundrum.
unlabelledView post →Ordinary People. Fantastic movie. Fantastic acting. Makes me ugly cry every time.
unlabelledView post →It's one of those rare instances when the film is as good as the book, like To Kill a Mockingbird and Ordinary People. In this case the use of animation also elevates it- truly inspired.
unlabelledView post →RIP the boyishly handsome movie star Robert Redford who has died at the age of 89. Oh and he also directed ten feature films, including "Ordinary People," which won the best picture and director Oscars in 1980. Oh and he also founded a little film festival called "Sundance"
unlabelledView post →“Ordinary People” (1980), playing on Turner Classic Movies right now, saved my life back in the mid to late 90’s in high school. It was the first film I can point to that offered me a way to connect with my emotions in ways my family never allowed. It was my first experience with cinema as healing.

unlabelledView post →I feel the pope snuck one by there with Ordinary People in what the Vatican would realistically allow released as a movie list. Chicago pope’s actual favorite movies are probably Blues Brothers and Taking Care of Business
unlabelledView post →I have heard interviews with Martin Scorsese where the reporter tries the “‘Raging Bull’ was robbed” prompt, only to have Marty shut it down with “But ‘Ordinary People’ is a great movie.” And Marty had a key cameo in Redford’s “Quiz Show” in 1994.

unlabelledView post →And we're off, with MOVIE NO. 65 in our chronological tour through the American movies of the 1980s. This one's the *other* Robert Redford movie of 1980, the one that isn't Ordinary People, but has something interesting to say about Redford and the era as well: from June, it's BRUBAKER!
unlabelledView post →I had a crush on Robert Redford from a very young age. He was an incredible actor. If you haven’t seen The Old Man & The Gun, his last movie, based on a true story, you should. Favs: Barefoot in the Park The Sting The Natural Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Also, he directed Ordinary People
unlabelledView post →Excellent thread on one of my favorite movies this year. Am I crazy to suddenly think Leigh's film has points of comparison with Ordinary People, which we've been talking about elsewhere today on Bluesky?
unlabelledView post →Tonight’s movie is Ordinary People which I have never seen beyond the Mad magazine spoof - an Oscar winning success at the time but seems pretty forgotten now
unlabelledView post →It’s no secret that I struggle with depression, so Ordinary People is a film close to my heart. Donald Sutherland absolutely slayed me in it. What an immense talent.
unlabelledView post →More than any other movie, ORDINARY PEOPLE means the world to me. Eternally grateful for it and countless other Robert Redford projects. Farewell, sir. ❤️
unlabelledView post →#filmsky A loved matinee idol, birthday boy Robert Redford was a better actor than he got credit for; his acting was underrated in films like Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here. But my favorite Redford film, which he won an Oscar for, is his directorial debut Ordinary People. He was truly a great director
unlabelledView post →Ordinary People is probably one of the best movies dealing with death, grief, and trauma. It doesn’t get the respect it deserves and it won Best Picture! Ordinary People was my mother’s favorite movie.
unlabelledView post →It's a great story. I've always loved it. My wife & I saw a movie with him once. We didn't know it, but found out the next day he had been in the theater. It was an advanced screening of Ordinary People. When the movie began and said "directed by Robert Redford," there was a murmur thru the crowd.
unlabelledView post →Ordinary People was such a historic movie for the time. Mary, Timothy, Donald and Judd wove an intricate story
unlabelledView post →Lotsa folks say that Raging Bull should have won Best Picture instead of Ordinary People. I see a lot to their argument, but I respectfully disagree. That's my fave movie from 1980, even eclipsing The Empire Strikes Back. And Donald Sutherland's a big part of that. May he rest in peace.

unlabelledView post →Conrad and his father learn how to adjust; the mother does not. It’s not often we get characters who face those kinds of challenges on the screen, nor directors who seek them out as Robert Redford did. Ordinary People is an intelligent, perceptive, and deeply moving film.
unlabelledView post →RIP Robert Redford (1936-2025) environmentalist, film director, producer and movie star! watch Ordinary People (1980)
unlabelledView post →Also, ORDINARY PEOPLE is one of the best movies about grief, and Redford deserves so much credit for allowing so much sincerity and vulnerability. It is a movie that does not fear the audience being uncomfortable but also doesn't chase it.
unlabelledView post →Okay, time to REALLY show your age! Post the movie that won Best Picture the year ORDINARY PEOPLE won Best Picture.
unlabelledView post →Wow. Tough one. “Ordinary People”. Tough movie.
unlabelledView post →Plus Ordinary People, which he directed. I haven't watched it since its release. I remember it as excellent, w/ 4 Oscars including best director.... but also a very depressing film.
