I became the Shrykull and saved the Mud's all over the Oddworld. But then came this game, Soulstorm. I hate to say it, but this game is in a very, VERY rough state. It is supposed to be a "reimagining" of Abe's Exodus, but it follows an ENTIRELY new plot that just doesn't have the humor or the punch of the original. There's no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good for £1 (Fanatical), crap for £30. You'd be a fool to pay full price for it, even though the game is a modern remake of an amazing classic the gameplay feels extremely dated and less refined than the original. I love Abe and Exoddus is my favourite Oddworld title so I'll continue to play, but they should've stuck to the New 'n' Tasty route IMO, that was GREAT. Don't buy for less than 90% off. Edit: I forgot to mention that the cutscenes are extremely good, movie quality. Make a…

unlabelledView post →[Real playtime is on PS5] As someone who is generally forgiving towards remakes, I must say that this is probably the worst remake I've ever seen, it's even worse than Resident Evil 3 by a long mile - and that remake was a travesty in itself to begin with, yet this is still even worse. To the uninitiated, Soulstorm is a re-imagining of Abe's Exoddus for the PS1, which was the second Oddworld game made. While Exoddus was a great success, it was nonetheless not the original vision of the team…

I was obsessed with this series ever since playing a PSX demo of this one, up to Munch's Oddysee; which felt like some crazy subversive art future to me while anticipating its release. A unique game not sure if it holds up!
unlabelledView post →I've been a fan of Oddworld since 1999 or so when I happened across Abe's Oddysee on a demo disc. I was around six at the time, and the game both intrigued and terrified me. I remember drawing sligs and scrabs at school, and doing the chanting to annoy my sister as well. I didn't get my hands on the full game until many years later, and it ended up being (and it still is) one of my favourite games ever, along with Exoddus. I thought New and Tasty was an honest remaster attempt that did more…

Beautiful pixel art, amazing soundtrack, VOICE ACTORS. Plus an AMAZING story where each character gets a beautiful dramatic backstory. A masterpiece.
unlabelledView post →Haven't done a Random Game Saturday for a bit! Here's Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, perhaps one of the finest "more of the same" sequels I've played. Quiksave, expanded possession and GameSpeak; a true expansion of Abe's Oddyssey. Another one for the "Oh, THAT'S where my politics came from." pile.

I then got Abe's Oddysee for the PS1 and I loved it. I hold Abe's Oddysee close to my heart as one of the best platforming games I have ever played and due to the fact it was a special gift from my dad, because of the "farting" mechanic in the game it would always make me and my dad laugh. He then got me Abe's Exoddus and my…

unlabelledView post →I love the Oddworld series, but this game might as well be called "Soulless Storm". Okay, perhaps that's a bit harsh since I know they tried, but let me explain my thoughts in this review: Oddworld Inhabitants was a studio I once held in very high regard and respected a lot, but this is probably one of their most misguided games yet. I first started with New N’ Tasty, going back through the previous games, then playing this game on PS4 and giving “Enhanced Edition” a shot on PC now. It’s not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game when it was on sale. If you are expecting the game be similar to "New N' Tasty"then I must disappoint you. Oddworld: Abe's Exodus was a masterpiece, but this game, you can't even call it a farcry from the original games. The game simply shifted old style survival is the fittest with one hit kill 2d platformer to a 2d platformer with RPG elements. Possession lasts few seconds? Water bottles to douse flames, brew bottles are flammable? Combine stuff to get another things to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Soulstorm is a reimagining of the 1998 classic platformer Abe's Exoddus, which happens to be one of my favorite games ever. Unfortunately, this game is far from it. Playing through it was an overly long, tedious, repetitive, and frustrating ordeal. The rewritten story is plain bad, and the cutscenes are long and dull. Gone are the humor, atmosphere, music—everything that made Exoddus great. Instead, we now have poorly placed checkpoints, no manual saves, tiresome scavenging for materials,…

unlabelledView post →I would recommend playing the original Abe's Exoddus before this reimagining, it really lets this reimagining contrast nicely with the original's ups and downs. At the time of writing this, I made it to Slig Barracks, I like the rewritten story so far. I don't understand why people don't like this one, I played Exoddus right after New n' Tasty just to get a frame of reference, and so far I'm enjoying *some* aspects of this more than Exoddus. The presentation is unsurprisingly on point.…

Oddworld is such a special series for how nuanced it is in discussing things like corporate overreach, slavery, substance abuse, depression etc Game looks and plays beautifully!
unlabelledView post →It's good. Don't let all the screaming loonies fool you. Yes it's very very unlike the original. This is NOT a remake. This is NOT an HD port. This is a REIMAGINING. A TOTAL REVAMP. IT IS NOT THE SAME GAME. QUIT WHINING THAT IT'S NOT THE SAME. I will be the first to say this game is not flawless, it's got some funky bugs every now and then and difficulty spikes that seem impossible. They're not. Use your head and you'll be fine. It's nowhere near enough to qualify this game as "bad".
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oddworld… The first game I bought with my own money (I still have the receipt as faded as it is). I loved the narrative and how beautifully these well crafted creatures designs and the world were unapologetically themselves. I could talk endlessly about what I love of the first game and series.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You had one job. Give us a competent remake of Exoddus alas New and Tasty. Instead you cooked up this unsightly abomination that bastardised the story, feel and setting of the original game. I couldn't even suffer 30 minutes of the tutorial before shutting the game off. If you are looking for a good successor to New and Tasty, this isn't it chief.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i got through the tutorial and i saw the writing on the wall almost instantly. The developers have changed a working formula for the worse. This is NOT the exodus game we all love and remember from the playstation one days. They turned abe into an action 2D scroller. And whats worse?! With the previous "New n Tasty" game they NAILED IT! They nailed the formula of bringing the playstation one game to the present. They have chosen NOT to do that with Exodus! Instead they chose to go with...what…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you have never played an Oddworld game I can’t recommend them enough! They’re brilliant and dark and goofy and heartbreaking and beautiful and hilarious and fun as hell ❤️
unlabelledView post →Awful. It's easy to see why Lorne Lanning took the EGS buyout to start this game's life. He obviously knew they made a pile of ♥♥♥♥ and wanted the big payday to soften the sting of the impending reviews. Nothing about this game says "Oddworld" except the title.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They should have just remade Exoddus like they did Oddysee (New n Tasty)!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thumb up but... This game has a lot of problems, some bugs are still not fixed, last 2 stages were really repetetive, frustrating and boring at the same time. Game feels rushed - no scrabs and paramites really?! This whole crafting system shouldn't be a thing in Oddworld game also. However I still enjoyed playing this game, its the worst oddworld game but still decent game overall. Graphics is nice, cutscenes are really good like always in this series. Game is long enough and im satisfied…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played all the Oddworld games... This is the worst in the series. There are bugs in the game from when it originally dropped on just the EGS. This game could have been great if they just did some updates, but it's just not good. If you would like to play a definitive Oddworld Experience play "Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty", it is everything great about Oddworld 2-D with the modernized graphics. This game is a waste of money even on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another Oddworld piece from my and Jarrod’s time working on the first game, Abe’s Oddysee, many many moons ago 😊🖤
unlabelledView post →This game was garbage. Good they mentioned who gave them the awards. Now we know that: Destructoid WCCFTech God is geek Xbox tavern Shack news TheXboxHub Hobby consalos Noisy pixel NYX Game Awards ...are full of sh*t. No way they rated it this high unless Oddworld paid them money to say that. I will never trust their rating again. Oddworld used to make great games like Abe's Oddyssee and Exodus. But after that, the quality went trash.

unlabelledView post →If you think Abe Exoddus is amongst the best game you've ever played, and believe this to be a good remake, then you'd be wrong. The determinism of a puzzle plateformer is over. Instead, you get floaty movements, unresponsive grabs onto ledges, mudokons that should be helping you by throwing stuff not working half the time, dumb checkpoints that can softlock you and also forces you to loot again, areas where possession is prevented is sometimes not obvious as the flying orb is outside the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've finished it twice with different endings and it's definitely the worst Oddworld title to date for several reasons. PS: Steam is having some weird bug where it won't count my gameplay hours correctly when I play on the Deck. I have much more hours in the game than shown. 1. The controls: They are unreliable and buggy. Abe won't always grapple onto ledges and slips down instead, often resulting in death, making the no-death achievement depend on RNG induced by poor programming. More absurd…

But the sheer tedium and frustration just had me abandon the 1-2 hour long levels every time. Jeebus are the levels long enough? I wanted to like this game. I really did. So you beat a level, realize you're missing people to save, and have no way of going back to a save to rescue more. And they are often really well hidden. Nope, gotta replay the entire level from the start. And I saved a ton of them. Game has many other problems. Some parts are just insanely hard. You can't go back through some levels once you reach the end to rescue more people…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A sad example of rushed (and abandoned) work. The "Enhanced" PC port is so enhanced that: It does not support resolutions greater than 1080p(!?). It does not support ultra-wide aspect ratios. I'm really struggling to understand what "enhanced" could mean with such glaring limitations. Moreover, there doesn't appear to be any support, updates, etc. from the developers. Stay away, if you like your money... and games... because at this price there are SO MANY better options.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played this on Epic when it first came out and was pretty disappointed... but they've seemingly patched all the control-issues and bugs I experienced at the time, and I've come around to consider this one of the best Oddworld games. Still miss some of the Exoddus ideas, but this adds a lot of unique value, and gets a lot of the re-envisioning of old material right as well. Oddworld artistry shines throughout. Environments and characters are gorgeous. New gameplay additions feel great. New…

This gameplay is more "free" i'd say. No step by step movement but similar to a platforming game with the same goal, save the mudokons. In the end, it's fun, challenging and very well made(graphic design). There are some minor bugs but nothing too game breaking atm.
