Oscar winner Brian Helgeland (Mystic River, LA Confidential) will write the screenplay. In the tale, Django continues to track prey as a bounty hunter & develops a kinship with Zorro.

Possibly my most hated movie. Unpleasant nothing. -Summer's Blood. Ugly & hateful & GTFO. -Mystic River. MORE SEAN PENN OVERACTING, PLEASE.

If you don't want to make that big a commitment at first, and you don't want to just do Mystic River because you've seen the movie, then...Since We Fell or Small Mercies?
unlabelledView post →Rewatching MYSTIC RIVER for the first time in, idk, twenty years. This is some good-ass middlebrow cinema. A lurid bummer of a plot, respectably muted direction, actors being EXTREMELY hammy. It’s as much of a warm blanket as a movie about a murdered teen can be.
unlabelledView post →I still really like Mystic River. It isn't the most fashionable film from 2003, but it is replete with things to my taste: Eastwood's plaintive piano score with echoes of Angelo Badalamenti. Eli Wallach one scene cameo. Tom Stern's shadowy cinematography. And, yes, Sean Penn's explosive performance.
unlabelledView post →I wish that legacy Oscar logic worked in reverse. Like “yeah Sean Penn is undeniably great in OBAA, but you know what? Let’s just go ahead and attribute his Mystic River win to this way better movie instead.”

unlabelledView post →Glad you dug it…when it comes to Big Twist books, it doesn’t get much twistier than that one. As far as the film, it’s an entertaining flick and well worth your time. Btw, if you want more Lehane, I’d recommend THE DROP, MYSTIC RIVER, and SINCE WE FELL, the latter of which is also a bit twisty.

It's a film (and a book) I wish I'd written. In fact, I'm trying to write my own pot-smoking P.I. beach bum novel right now.

It's a film you feel in your bones, and it begins an incredible 5 year run by Clint Eastwood that any director would envy. #filmsky

The opening scenes of the movie Mystic River (where the evil child abuser with the big car doesn't even have to show a badge - just handcuffs hanging from his belt) is a stark reminder of how much we allow ourselves to be pushed around by people in (presumed) authority
