A few posters note the film improves on the 2021 reboot but still has flaws. [1][2][3]

Utter crap. Sorry, but I see no point in wasting too many words here. Lead actors who clearly have little to no actual martial arts experience, a disjointed mess of a story, plus, at times, excessive gore, that serves no discernible purpose. One to avoid.

Action movie filled with martial arts, what a way to spend the better part of two hours. Even with all the blood and gore, this did it for me. Add the humor injected with many familiar faces, what could possibly go wrong. If I had to say anything negative it would be that some of the fight scenes were unbelievable, but this is supposed to be fantasy so I looked past that. If action and martial arts are your genre, …

Not a flawless victory, but fun By no means is this a perfect movie, but it is a fun movie, for sure. There have been a lot of bad Mortal Kombat movies, but this is actually not just a decent homage to the games, but an actual movie, with a beginning, middle, and end, along with characters, arcs, and a storyline. The casting is good, with Karl being the standout, obviously. It is very polished, and it is a fun watch.

Here’s the thing: with a video game movie you CANNOT BE ASHAMED OF THE SOURCE MATERIAL. This is why Mortal Kombat II (2026) works over Mortal Kombat I (2021). I don’t think this movie will be a cinematic masterpiece but it seems to be shaping up to be a fun STREET FIGHTER movie

Mortal Kombat II was so fun but it completely obliviated the need for the first movie.
How this was made: an AI model (deepseek-v4-flash) read 34 of the 196 public posts we collected about this film and wrote the summary, likes and dislikes, citing the posts behind each point ([n] opens the post). A second AI pass checked every statement against the posts it cites; anything it could not match was removed, and code removed any statement with quotation marks, numbers that are not in the posts, or unattributed claims about people. The split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Generated Oct 9, 2026. Method
Critics, per Wikipedia
Mortal Kombat II grossed $79.8 million in the United States and Canada, and $49.7 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $129.5 million. It was produced on a budget of $80 million. Variety estimated the film would turn a profit of around $10 million for Warner Bros. In the United States and Canada, Mortal Kombat II opened alongside The Sheep Detectives and Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), and was projected to gross $40–45 million from 3,503 theaters in its opening weekend. It made $17 million on its first day, including $5.2 million in Thursday night previews, and went on to debut with $38.5 million, finishing second behind The Devil Wears Prada…

So that's a nice surprise 🤔

Funny timing because I rewatched the 1st Mortal Kombat movie last weekend after several years! I still love it. The atmosphere and fight choreography hold up, notably the Scorpion & Johnny Cage fight. 1/?

neutral · AI labelView post →Went and saw Mortal Kombat II That sure is a movie You'd think given the sheer number of attempts at parallel storytelling in it, they'd have succeeded even a single time. But. Nope. They seem to have a purely aesthetic understanding of filmic language? Really remarkable in how blinkered it is.

neutral · AI labelView post →MORTAL KOMBAT II is fine for what it is but like the previous film it has some emotional beats and some fight scenes I find really exciting in the post-Wick world where 90% of these movies are doing the same thing. Raiden gets assassinated and the ALIEN laser effect happens.
