Men of Honor
Against formidable odds -- and an old-school diving instructor embittered by the U.S. Navy's new, less prejudicial policies -- Carl Brashear sets his sights on becoming the Navy's first African-American master diver in this uplifting true story. Their relationship starts out on the rocks, but fate ultimately conspires to bring the men together into a setting of mutual respect, triumph and honor. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →Postscript: Brashear’s life story was the inspiration for the 2000 film Men of Honor, starring Cuba Gooding Jr. as Brashear. In 2008, the Navy christened a Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship, the USNS Carl Brashear, in his honor.

It's a little formulaic maybe, but the true story about Carl Brashear, the first African American USN diver. The Pentagon can scrub his page, but they can't stop us from watching! Bonus: De Niro & Gooding!

unlabelledView post →Hollywood should make a tribute movie and honor these people. Without movies like “Hidden Figures” or “The Six Triple Eight” or “Men of Honor” dumb white boys like me aren’t likely to learn or be exposed to their stories. (You know why)
unlabelledView post →I don't know why I thought of this just now (African Americans of the same era?), but has #hatm ever done Men of Honor? My Dad actually dove with the Navy diver that film is about, the legendary Carl Brashear!

unlabelledView post →Men of Honor made this grown man cry! Great movie! And remember a crushing wave of water is made from tiny rain drops. All and any small action adds up! Let’s all make it rain!
unlabelledView post →I feel that. A couple months ago I rewatched Men of Honor and this scene had me crying cuz it made me think of Lewis with what he has to fight through for what we know why. In the scene the commander ordered the guy to slash the black diver’s tool bag so he youtu.be/FixQE61iSDg?...

unlabelledView post →Legally Blonde! I said what I said. I've also always been partial to the courtroom scene in Men of Honor but I don't know if that classifies as a courtroom movie.

unlabelledView post →IIRC the Simon Casey song the year before was inspired by the film Men Of Honor. Bryan McFadden watched a DVD about racism in the US Navy and decided to write a Eurovision song about it. Truly one of the strangest eras of our national history.
unlabelledView post →I did the same thing w/ my pinned post😅 It's a spin-off of the famous line from Robert DeNiro in the movie "Men of Honor" "The Navy Diver is not a fighting man, he is a salvage expert. If it is lost underwater, he finds it. If it's sunk, he brings it up. If it's in the way, he moves it."

unlabelledView post →February is Black History month (whether they like it or not). I was thinking about the movie "Men of Honor", a true story about the first black navy master diver and how hard he had to fight to get there (and De Niro still gets top billing over Cuba Gooding Jr). Recommend a movie for this month.

She was more than an aunt; she was the best friend you never had. She was also the 2nd wife to Master Chief Carl Brashear (“Men of Honor” film).

But honestly, what’s wrong with a movie sticking to a classic, inspiring formula when it’s done right? The story of Carl Brashear, played by Cuba Gooding Jr., is all about perseverance, dignity, and refusing to let others define your worth. Robert De Niro, as the tough and unpredictable Master Chief Billy Sunday, brings an intensity that elevates…
