Megalopolis
In a futuristic New York known as New Rome, visionary architect Cesar Catilina dreams of building "Megalopolis," a utopian city that redefines society’s limits. Opposing him is the corrupt Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who clings to power and profit. Between them stands Julia, the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar forces her to choose between loyalty, ambition, and the fate of humanity. From TMDB

If you told me Francis Ford Coppola had only met one woman one time and had a very bad time, I would believe you.

neutral · AI labelView post →The new documentary “Megadoc” goes behind the scenes of the making of Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis.” The film is “a fascinating, inspiring view of a filmmaker whose methods are as boldly original as his movie,” @tnyfrontrow.bsky.social writes.

negative · AI labelView post →I’m annoyed at the Toronto International Film Festival for tweeting today about how much money Coppola is losing on Megalopolis (a film that got its North American premiere at TIFF no less). Imagine Cannes or Venice tweeting about a film artist like this!

neutral · AI labelView post →THIS. GET HIS ASS. All of these glowing takes about Megalopolis like "Oh, at least he's trying to make a REAL movie" and he's sexually harassing the extras I thought I was losing my damn mind

neutral · AI labelView post →Maybe you saw that trailer yesterday for “Megalopolis” that quotes negative reviews of Coppola’s past films. Now Lionsgate admits that the quotes were made up. Any ideas what sort of tool someone might have used to generate fake quotes in lieu of doing real research? variety.com/2024/film/ne...
neutral · AI labelView post →Not over the cold shoulder given this awards season to the craft achievements of MEGALOPOLIS, a film I found frequently dizzying in the strength and imagination of its images.
positive · AI labelView post →I'm morbidly curious about Coppola's MEGALOPOLIS. I have rarely seen such unanimity of contempt for a fairly high-budget, mainstream film.
neutral · AI labelView post →This is what makes Megalopolis such an incredible movie
positive · AI labelView post →(LONG thread Incoming) Man, where do I start... Well, production for Megalopolis all started in 1977, when Coppola had the idea to make a film drawing parallels between the fall of the Roman Republic and the future of the United States by retelling the Catilinarian conspiracy in modern New York.

unlabelledView post →Disillusioned by the studio system, Coppola did not produce Megalopolis until he built a large fortune in the winemaking business. He spent $120 million of his own money to make the film. Principal photography took place in Georgia from November 2022 to March 2023.

unlabelledView post →Sinners, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Lord of the Rings trilogy (saw it in theaters last year, it counts). I also really enjoyed Megalopolis but understand it's not a perfect film, kinda gonzo. If you like Cthulhu type stuff then Nic Cage starred in an adaptation of Lovecraft's "Colors out of space" that my wife and I both really enjoyed. A lot of people missed the 2008 adaptation of Speedracer done by the Wachowski sisters (same people who did the Matrix) which is a real shame…
unlabelledView post →This line from the article really sums it up: > He also supposedly plans for a "director’s cut" – sorry, then what was it we watched last fall, exactly? Someone else's cut – called Megalopolis Unbound: longer, weirder, maybe some dream sequences. (Was the whole movie not his own dream sequence?) In all seriousness, the "director's cut" is mostly used nowadays as a marketing term, it seems.
