17 of 17 · most liked first---See where this game landed on my Metroidvania Tier List beneath this rec!--- The dev has a knack for making fun, challenging boss fights - this aspect of the game steals the show! I wouldn't compare a game like this to any of the greats - this is a small indie, but if you loved the tough boss fights in games like Solateria (on hard difficulty)/Nine Sols(without assistance)/Silksong etc. then you'll likely appreciate the fights in Mask of Soul. A lot of my playtime was spent on these bosses,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is going to be kind of a weird review but try to follow what i'm saying. the hit detection is unsatisfying. theres no rumble in the controller, no recoil, no enemy in shock, nothing. half the time i cant even fully tell the enemy was hit. maybe the sound needs to be up, i dont know. kinda ruined the whole experience and made me not want to continue playing it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Currently my savefile stands in around 80%... Game is just serviceable.. nothing really stands out... The character feels cluncky.. the atmosphere, enemies, music are all boring and forgettable.. specially the music, it was as medicore as it gets. The level design / metroidvania aspect if there was, is just dull and non-intresting. The bosses which was supposed to be the main butter of the game is meh.. there was some good fights.. but overall not impressed. The story.. idk.. i kept spacing out…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I dislike leaving a bad review for an indie game, I'm genuinely not having a good time playing this. First and foremost, this game is NOT, absolutely and definitely in anyway, shapes or forms qualified as a metroidvania game no matter how much you stretch the definition. So my expectation was completely screwed from the beginning. This is a boss-rush action-adventure game and boss design is sadly all it has. Game is extremely linear, offer zero exploration route. Level design is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story begins with a struggle between good and evil that is eventually resolved, restoring balance to the world. From this resolution, twins are born, each tied to one side of that balance. One represents the light and is destined to rule with wisdom, while the other embodies the dark and will rule with strength. In the present day, the twins have grown. The one aligned with the light has already fulfilled his destiny, but the other, known as Cheong-oh Chasa, the guardian of the underworld,…

This is a good game that I was initially dissatisfied with but after several patches from the committed developer it was a joy to give this another shot. At its base it’s a difficult game but there are damage reduction and generous damage dealt options to make it enjoyable for anyone. Fun solid Metroidvania that is a must for your library
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The dreamlike atmosphere of moving between the world of the living and the afterlife feels truly unique, and it carries a strong sense of traditional Korean aesthetics. The difficulty isn’t easy, offering a solid challenge throughout the game. Hidden items are quite hard to find, but they are definitely worth the effort as they provide powerful benefits. One downside, though the mid boss in the Ice Cave (second encounter) is incredibly frustrating to deal with.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a great game, with fun and difficult bosses. The only downside is it's size, it took me 5.5hrs to 100%, which is rather short.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is fine... I would really hate if they added more achievements months after releasing it and adding more content, I don't see myself relearning, especially because of the parry. Find it cringe.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A solid little metroidvania inspired by Hollow Knight. While it doesn't do anything particularly new, it is very competent for what it is doing within the genre. The art style is very cool and is reminiscent of Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus. Another highlight is the boss fights. They are very challenging without being unfair and the devs included multiple different accessibility options if you get stuck. This is on the shorter side for the genre but overall an enjoyable Metroidvania if you are…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, what a surprise this game was. Genuinely some of the best bosses in the genre, every boss feels like slowly learning a new dance until you're running in circles around them. That being said, the bosses are the only reason to play this game. I clocked under 10 hours, and I'm sure half of that time was spent on bosses. The game world is very small and linear, but you'll run into a new boss or miniboss every half dozen rooms.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished the first major boss, second boss I've encountered. Haven't had this much fun with a metroidvania combat style since Hollow Knight. I only wish the controls were more Keyboard and Mouse friendly. Even with rebinding, menu navigation is a little uncomfortable. The art direction and the sound design have been top tier. I'm not sure how long the game is so far, but an hour in and I already feel like I've had my money's worth
