Despite the gameplay being enjoyable I can no longer recommend anyone buy or play this game. They have added kernel level anti-cheat as a requirement, and I don't believe any company should be trusted with that level of access to people's computers or privacy. No application or company should have access to the kernel where one minor conflict or issue can nearly brick a system. I won't spend the time to elaborate on how significant of a threat it is for so many companies to have access to…

This game is probably for the people that have beaten the Fromsoft souls games more times than they can count. If you are desperate for more soulslike content, this is for you. If you have beaten each FS Souls title just once or twice like me, I recommend staying away. Basically, the exploration in Lords of the Fallen isn't fun. The world design and exploration are confusing - the game just does not do a great job of pushing you in the right direction with environment design. The lamp's…

I want to start off this review by mentioning that I have barely ever posted reviews for games, and never a negative one. Even games I loved for years, or games I genuinely disliked, never motivated me enough to write one. With Lords of the Fallen however, I felt my experience deserved a proper review. I completed a playthrough on Veteran difficulty with the modifier enabled for unnerfed enemy groups, so some criticism may not apply to regular difficulties. First off: Bugs & Issues…

Kind of like if Outward's janky combat and Dark Souls had a baby. Cons: - Floaty combat. - Controls can be annoying at times. For instance, there was no dedicated jump button at release so sometimes you find yourself jumping when you're merely trying to interact with an item. - Enemies get stuck in terrain and the air and they can't climb ladders so they often jump to their death. - Voice acting is pretty bad and the story and side characters are not memorable. - While vestige seeds are an…

TLDR: Lords of the Fallen is a wonderful game once you temper your expectations. This game is not like Elden Ring, and is more like Dark Souls 2 and Demon's Souls. It is a much harder experience, made by a much more inexperienced team. Let me preface this by saying that I really do love this game, and I'm excited to see what CI Games does with LOTF2, having had the chance to learn from this game. I'll start with the positives first, and then talk about the negatives and problems the game has…

The game is far from perfect. But you have to give credit to the devs. Instead of abandoning the game after its disastrous launch, they showed real passion for their project through a major relaunch with many improvements and ongoing support. That’s something very rare in the gaming industry these days, and I think that deserves some appreciation. I would definitely recommend the game, because despite its minor flaws here and there, it’s a good game overall that I personally really enjoyed.

Failing at Every Single Aspect I'd rather not discuss this game too much, since everything bad about it has already been said, and I don't think I can contribute something new this time. Very poorly designed in every category and poorly made, even the coop experience didn't make it a little bit sufferable. Don't recommend it to anyone, even with all those "updates". Such a horrible and tedious experience. History and My Expectations I preordered it back in the day, 2 years ago. The game was…

Right, look - this game deserves better than the kicking it's been getting. The devs have actually bothered to fix their mess, which is more than you can say for most studios who just take your money and bugger off to make NFTs or whatever. The launch? Absolute disaster. Crashed more than my uncle at Christmas dinner. But here's the thing - they've actually fixed it. I know, shocking isn't it? A developer that doesn't just abandon ship when things go tits up. COOP PLAYERS BEWARE: COOP is like a Hamachi / Mod implemented COOP experience where only the host actually gets to play the game correctly. Only the host can open doors, progress story lines, go into the Umbral Plane etc. The other player doesn't have free reign over movement and must follow where the host goes with a distance leash. Furthermore, we both got riddled with desync bugs where some doors were open, some were not, some paths were blocked for one, not for the other, some were…

I wanted to like this game really bad, but it just kept shooting itself in the foot. The atmosphere is fantastic, I liked the concept of the lantern world, enemy and armor designed overall are stellar. Can't say that boss fights were that good, but that is on the lower end of my complaints. I can't understand what happened in the level-designed department after upper carlath. Why do we have looping paths for no reason? Why do we have shortcuts withing shortcuts? Umbral was so tiring by the…

The story SUCKS! Like one of the worst in any souls like which is saying something for me cause I hate pretty much all of them. However, everything else about the game is fantastic. The combat, the customization, the enemies, the bosses, the drop in drop out coop, the customization and build crafting, the fact it's the only souls like I know that has a freaking friendpass. I'll admit it's on the lower side of difficulty, but if you're just looking for a good time fighting some demons and…

Genuinely one of the better non-Fromsoftware soulslike games out in the market. 10/10, go buy it. Real talk now. Does the game have issues even to this day? Yes. But so do all the games that The Lords of the Fallen is inspired by - I'd say that a lot of the issues that those games have are completely absent in this one. If you think I'm exaggerating, go look up my hours on all 3 Dark Souls games + Elden Ring. Is this an appeal to authority? Yes. And I don't care nor am I going to justify…

You've probably heard the expression, "I wish I could forget *name* so it could be like the first time." Lords of the Fallen gave me exactly that kind of emotional satisfaction, if the object of that forgetting is the first Dark Souls. I've said many times that I'm tired of games with large open worlds, especially when they're overloaded with obviously secondary activities, but if you're a perfectionist, all those icons on the map will feed that feeling. Ultimately, you're immersed in a single…

Honestly I knew it won't be good even after all these updates and gameplay walkthroughs, but wanted to try it anyways. The whole gimmick with lantern/other world just doesn't seem intuitive enough. Like at the start i thought it would be like - If you want to solve a puzzle or die, you switch to undead realm and either solve the puzzle or have a second chance at life, but no. The whole thing is mandatory to progress through every single area in the game. You basically start at certain area,…

More than 2 years later and a relaunch of the game with their "big" 2.0 update and now their final 2.5 patch, co-op is still broken. This company doesn't intend to ever fix it or they would've done so already. Don't buy this game if you're at all interested in co-op. Shared progression is borked when using the friend pass. Even if you both own the game it's still borked and you'll have to replay sections by rehosting the game from the partner side because certain pickups aren't shared. On…

At this point, I have beaten the game 4 times, reaching and repeating NG+2 with a level 315 character, and I would still give the game a thumbs down. Here is why: Poise Poise is practically non-existent in this game. Even when wearing the heaviest armor and swinging the heavies weapons, you get interrupted. This can be very frustrating, especially when trying to cast, use a vital item, or deal with an umbral parasite. Builds The game is significantly more manageable if you have a…

Combat just isn't fun. Its like 80% the quality of a Fromsoft game, but its missing the 20% that make the difference between annoying difficulty and fun difficulty. Enemies are a slog, rather than a challenge. They're slow and predictable and make up for that by being HP sponges, always outnumbering you and having so much stagger/poise/stability that they just power through all your attacks, even fully charged heavy attacks. Lots of other small grievances, but all of it can be summed…
