Leave No Trace
A father and daughter live a perfect but mysterious existence in Forest Park, a beautiful nature reserve near Portland, Oregon, rarely making contact with the world. But when a small mistake tips them off to authorities, they are sent on an increasingly erratic journey in search of a place to call their own. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →File under: Man, they grow up so fast! This past week I’ve learned that Thomasin McKenzie, the actor who plays young Tom (early teens, I’d say) in Leave No Trace, portrays adults in the movie Joy (Jean Purdy) and the TV series Life After Life (adult Ursula) based on Kate Atkinson’s terrific novel.

unlabelledView post →I mention this at the end of my piece, but the film that came to mind with the Barfoot was Debra Granik’s LEAVE NO TRACE, where the military veteran father and his teenage daughter are living off-grid in a massive woodland park in Oregon - plus what happens when their needs diverge.

unlabelledView post →I hate it when I hear about new books or authors I would totally love ... the day after I just ordered a new shipment of books. Sigh. Anyway, has anyone read Peter Rock (a Portlander!), by any chance? His book My Abandonment was turned into the movie Leave No Trace. His work sounds great.

unlabelledView post →I forgot to mention that Peter Rock is the author of My Abandonment, which is what the (fantastic) movie Leave No Trace is based on. The book was inspired by the true story of a father and daughter who lived in Portland’s Forest Park until caught. They got away and were never heard from again.
unlabelledView post →Rewatched and really enjoyed Debra Granik’s ‘Leave No Trace’. So well made. Beautifully acted by all, but the two leads, Ben Foster and Thomasin McKenzie as father and daughter living off the grid, are superb #cinema #film #movies #filmsky
unlabelledView post →What’s a movie you think nobody but you and a handful of people have heard of, that you think is a fantastic film? Leave No Trace. Watched it not long after becoming a Dad. Almost unbearably moving, but so beautiful.
unlabelledView post →63. Leave No Trace (Netflix, 2018) Rewatched this brilliant film because Michael Hurley is in it, with Marisa Anderson. Director Debra Granik marries a documentary style to a delicate touch and real insight, and Thomasin McKenzie is this film's equivalent of JLaw in Granik's awesome Winter's Bone
unlabelledView post →I'm a cis dude, and I found the entire film deeply unsettling the same way I found the film Leave No Trace deeply unsettling. I would not classify either as a horror film, but I don't know how to categorize them beyond that.

I watched it because it has a cameo by one of my favorite musicians, relatively unsung Portland OR genius Michael Hurley, singing his beautiful song O My Stars, but it's excellent and worth watching in itself. It's a gentle but hard hitting story about the emotional tolls homelessness and PTSD take on families and especially children and the damage that carceral state social service institutions do to exacerbate everything.…

A thoughtful film about loneliness, grief and ambition, and one of Cage's best roles in years. Let me know what you think in the comments.

The men are competitive while Sam wants to connect with Dad then something happens. Low key, but intimate: a joy

unlabelledView post →Streaming Suggestion Leave No Trace McKenzie deserves all the plaudits she got for this role, but it's Foster (perhaps the best, and certainly for me the most underrated American actor in his age group) and the dynamic between them that makes the film tick. One of the best of its decade. On ITVX.

Society is a joint-stock company, in which the members agree, for the better securing of his bread to each shareholder, to surrender the liberty and culture of the eater. The virtue in most request is conformity. Self-reliance is its aversion. It loves not realities and creators, but names and customs. Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist.
