Lake Placid
When a man is eaten alive by an unknown creature, the local Game Warden teams up with a paleontologist from New York to find the beast. Add to the mix an eccentric philanthropist with a penchant for "Crocs", and here we go! This quiet, remote lake is suddenly the focus of an intense search for a crocodile with a taste for live animals...and people! From TMDB

The humor lands, the creature thrills deliver, and Betty White’s performance has become legendary for good reason. Bridget Fonda shines, and the film still feels brisk and entertaining. Silly-but fun. 🎞️📽️🎬
unlabelledView post →This was fun! It is surprisingly brief, perhaps a little too brief. Great effects by Stan Winston and a fun cast. Pretty wild audiences got two star-studded B-movies, Lake Placid and Deep Blue Sea just a couple weeks apart. And it’s nice that neither movie ever got any sequels.😂

unlabelledView post →everybody in this movie is acting like a different kind of alien. this is the Lake Placid franchise marathon thread btw
unlabelledView post →Generally, most monster movies COULD be told in such a way that they're horror movies, but that's not usually the case. Like, Mimic is definitely a monster movie that also works as a horror movie, but you can't get mad at Lake Placid or Slither or Tremors for not scaring you
unlabelledView post →Lake Placid is on. One of the funniest and mildly scary movies of the late 90s with dream boat Bill Pullman and my favorite movie line from Betty White, "If I had a dick, this is where I'd tell you to suck it."
unlabelledView post →Revisited Lake Placid (1999) this evening. Hot damn, that is a very 90’s movie. The dialogue belongs in a 90’s museum. Bill Pullman gives absolutely nothing to his role. But the CGI holds up surprisingly well, the crocodile still looks great! And of course very large. 🐊
unlabelledView post →Stopped by The Bookstore Plus in Lake Placid, NY, to sign copies of The October Film Haunt. Even more special was the surprise of an employee telling me they'd recently started the audiobook. 🥰
unlabelledView post →Watching Lake Placid. The dialogue in this film is amazing and horrible and I can't always tell which is which!
unlabelledView post →Lake Placid (1999) Featuring some incredible actors in the cast and gorgeous special effects courtesy of Stan Winston, this 1999 B-movie is a great Halloween party pick.

unlabelledView post →I gotta follow up Seven Samurai with a lighter, sillier movie, and I think I'm gonna go with a Lake Placid chaser. Sometimes, you have to indulge in an elegant gourmet meal of Japanese cinema. Other times, you gotta enjoy a greasy burger and fries in the form of Betty White yelling obscenities. 📽️
unlabelledView post →SPOOKYTOBER IV Day 3 - Lake Placid (1999) . A lot more tame for a movie about a giant alligator rampaging a lake, and honestly not as interesting as jaws. stakes weren't as high, characters weren't as interesting and the weirdest part... not a lot of death? But its not terrible overall. . 5/10
unlabelledView post →I firmly believe it’s the best of the Indy films. Speaking of well lit, while I’m not a fan of horror, I do regularly rewatch Lake Placid in part because I can actually see what’s happening. See also Tremors, another ‘pulpy’ monster movie that is improved by being able to see the action.

So I made a movie about it Today marks 2 years since my debut dark comedy short film, DEADCOATS, had its world premiere at the Lake Placid Film Festival If you haven't seen it yet (or even if you have) now's a great chance to check it out! #Scriptsky #Filmsky vimeo.com/834538794
unlabelledView post →We watched Lake Placid and then Swan Song (poignant and bittersweet movie about a late in life elder queer doing ONE LAST JOB as a hairstylist, Udo Kier is amazing in it) and that choice may have been a BIT MUCH for my mom who is feeling a lot of things after a major surgery :(
unlabelledView post →because I too am susceptible to algorithmic recommendations, I have just put on "Lake Placid," an R-rated 1999 movie about a conservation officer and a paleontologist battling a monster crocodile in Lake Placid, NY
unlabelledView post →This f🐊king movie. Love the croc puppet and Betty White. But, what the hell was this? And yes, of course I watched it all the time as a kid, and of course Ive seen it's sequels, including Lake Placid v Anaconda. These movies are traps designed specifically for me.

unlabelledView post →Watched Lake Placid for the first time since it came out in 1999. The writing for the female characters is definitely worse than I remembered. Foul mouthed Betty White is still a delight though. #filmsky #moviesky #horror
unlabelledView post →Rogue came out the same year as Primeval, but didn’t get as much of a release. Rogue’s the better film, and I’d put Primeval a notch below Lake Placid overall, but it’s not bad to have a choice between big crocs - and that’s not even getting into Dark Age, Killer Crocodile 1&2, Crocodile (1979)…

(1,2 and 3) Tremors (1 and 2) Lake Placid (RIP Betty) And Then There Were None The Thing Robin Hood (Disney animated version) Star Wars (Original trilogy + Episode 1) Addams Family Values Django Unchained Inglorious Basterds Pulp Fiction (not a Tarantino stan, I swear) Who Framed Roger Rabbit Aliens Raiders of the Lost Ark Ironman (first one) Pacific Rim Girl with the Dragon Tattoo The Big Short Probably more than that TBH. I rewatch a lot.

While this may seem like a point of criticism, paying homage to horror movies of the past or filmmakers wearing their influences on their sleeve was never a bad thing, and just because a movie was derivative does not mean it’s bad. In fact, many of the biggest cult hits took…

unlabelledView post →Lake Placid: Just about the platonic ideal of an early Saturday evening film. A great cast, sassy script and some surprisingly gnarly moments add up to a very good time. Being just over 80 minutes long doesn't hurt either. I miss Bridget Fonda in films.
unlabelledView post →You know, when you think about it, Lake Placid is basically a Hallmark Channel movie. Uptight big city gal goes to a small town in the middle of nowhere after getting dumped and unexpectedly falls in love with the handsome, down-to-earth local game warden. It's really a love story at its heart.
