unlabelledView post →movie night! @peonyplaynpossum.bsky.social and i are gonna check out About a Place in the Kinki Region!! Koji released something new this year and his shit has been wild!! peony really know how to pick em! See ya at 10pn ct! discord.gg/TheSouthSide
unlabelledView post →Tonight's watch was a Koji Shiraishi double feature, Welcome to the Occult Forest: The Movie (2022, extended cut) and About a Place in the Kinki Region (2025, aka Kinki). If you liked Noroi you'd probably dig Kinki, if you liked Occult, Cult and Senritsu Kaiki Files you'll like Forest. I liked both.
unlabelledView post →Koji Shiraishi's ABOUT A PLACE IN THE KINKI REGION is staggering horror cinema–putting traditional narrative and found footage through the digital meat grinder to unearth disturbing existential and emotional truths. Naturally, I went long on this wild-as-hell movie on @cinapse.bsky.social:
unlabelledView post →also read all of Sesuji's About a Place in the Kinki Region in one sitting. big time banger. if you like the movie or Shiraishi or just found footage in general, don't skip the book. Hoping his other novels get translated 🙏
unlabelledView post →Just had what, my 5th viewing or so, and I wasn’t expecting to be as head over heels for a Koji Shiraishi movie this much this fast. He’s truly pushed himself into new territory with About a Place in the Kinki Region.
unlabelledView post →Was gonna try to fit in another movie tonight but nothing is gonna top this so I'm gonna start reading About a Place in the Kinki Region in stead.
unlabelledView post →Rewatching KINKI (but can I be honest I prefer its original title A CERTAIN PLACE) and ppl like to throw around ‘this movie feels cursed’ a lot but nobody, NOBODY comes even close to big man Shiraishi. The found footage segments are some of the scariest of his entire career.
unlabelledView post →FIRST TIME READS OF APRIL Favorite was “Sacrament” with its real-life melancholy under the shadow of AIDS; “Kinki” a fun-enough epistolary / “found text” (?); “Horror Movie” best as an unpack of its lead’s malleable mind; Bonaventure was research, not recommended for casual reading. #booksky
unlabelledView post →Want to read me writing about the book About a Place in the Kinki Region? How about more movie blurbs than you can shake a stick at? You can do all that and more in the latest issue of Exploits!
unlabelledView post →Couldn’t put down About A Place In The Kinki Region. Gotta see the Shiraishi movie now.
unlabelledView post →🎬 About a Place in the Kinki Region (2025) 🇯🇵 #Movie Such a cleverly made mockumentary weaving in real life folklore and urban legends. “Am I the sacrifice?” “Thank you for watching” … and now it stays with you.
unlabelledView post →Really enjoying About a Place in the Kinki Region, but one (pointless) detail bugs me. One character mention “THE Ring", but the 1998 movie was simply called "Ring". However, the US version was called "The Ring" in Japan. So I can't tell if this is localising, an error, or what it was in Japanese.
unlabelledView post →I haven't seen anything in English about the horror film 近畿地方のある場所について (About An Area in the Kinki District). I read the manga and saw the movie recently. The story revolves around a pair of reporters slowly realizing that a string of weird reports all come from a remote area outside Osaka.

Koji Shiraishi with Miho Kanno, Eiji Akaso, Atom Shukugawa, Kyo Sato, Nose Rin, Keisaku Kimura, Atsuki Yamada, Rio Kanno, Yuko Fukui and Chika Kuboyama. unlabelledView post →(3/??) the "range" of the series to expand, which Townfall & f will demonstrate. He also talks about how in Japan there's a "horror boom" starting to happen for the first time in 20 years, & he really liked the found footage horror film, "About a Certain Place in the Kinki Region".
unlabelledView post →About a Place in the Kinki Region- After coming away from the film adaptation with somewhat mixed feelings, I was shocked by how much I enjoyed this book. Like the works or Masaaki Nakayama, these short stories and excerpts build on each other, getting under your skin over time. Wonderfully creepy.
unlabelledView post →big fan of Koji Shiraishi's About a Place in the Kinki Region from last year. definitely check out if you like Noroi: The Curse. not a mockumentary like that film but incorporates found footage elements in a really effective way. Exhuma (2024) is also a blast. i need more korean geomancy horror
unlabelledView post →Thanks, Fantastic Film Fest Australia!! Everyone needs to see About a Place in the Kinki Region as soon as humanly possible—I’m ridiculously jealous of all the folks who’ll get to see it on the big screen there!
unlabelledView post →Absolutely nothing I am more excited about than the translation of Sesuji's About a Place in the Kinki Region, the novel that Koji Shiraishi's latest film is adapted from, which comes out in January. www.barnesandnoble.com/w/about-a-pl...
unlabelledView post →Kinki (2025): The best cinematic venture from Koji Shiraishi in a couple years and undoubtedly one of the best films of 2025. If you can, find a way to watch this movie RIGHT NOW. letterboxd.com/bisexualkaij...
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching Kinki (2026) New one from Koji Shiraishi, and organizers are saying this is the scariest movie of this years Beyond Fest. Shiraishi is often decidedly goofy but I’m a fan and looking forward to this. A surprise screening for me thanks to some open RSVPs. #Filmsky #Horrorsky
unlabelledView post →Forgot to say I watched the new Koji Shiraishi movie, About a Place in Kinki Region. It was okay. Definitely a revisit of ideas from Noroi, but not as enthralling. As a procedural, it's a little limp. If it had held back more, but also introduced some elementals earlier, I think it'd be stronger.
unlabelledView post →I finally got around to finishing About a Place in the Kinki Region, and loved it - can't wait to see the film too!! My brief review - Start of the book: Haha, yes!! End of the book: ...what the hell...
unlabelledView post →just started About a Place In the Kinki Region after watching the movie. normally liking the movie puts me at odds with the book or vice versa, but I'm really enjoying comparing the two! some things work better because of Shiraishi's strengths while some stuff in the book is spookier. enjoyable!
unlabelledView post →after seeing like 400 posts about About A Place In The Kinki Region on twitter (mostly about the book but whatever) I watched the movie last night and yeah Shiraishi Season is here. what a picture
unlabelledView post →I'm watching Koji Shiraishi's latest film "Kinki" (2025) and it has his creepiest bunch of mysterious hanging talismans yet!
unlabelledView post →It's making me jealous people talking about Kinki, Koji Shiraishi's new movie and frustrated because who knows off it'll ever come here.
unlabelledView post →I love that much of my movie freak mutuals are over-the-moon excited about the new Koji Shiraishi joint, Kinki. I do not love that I am apparently so depressed and out of it that I did not know this movie was out now and have no clue where my friends are watching it.
unlabelledView post →I sometimes feel too old to get actually excited about things, but I'm excited about this. Shiraishi Kōji is directing the film adaptation of Kinki Chihō no Aru Bashō ni Tsuite/Regarding a Certain Place in the Kinki Region. He's the only person in the world who could do it.
unlabelledView post →I ended up really enjoying Kinki, but kinda wish it hadn’t been sold as ‘the scariest movie of the fest.’ It was good, it was creepy, but it was also kinda corny and cheap (not necessarily a complaint). In other words, pretty standard fare for Koji Shiraishi. #Filmsky #Horrorsky
unlabelledView post →Also worth noting that after the very producer-controlled journeys of Ju-rei, Noroi, and Kuchisake-Onna, this was the first film that Shiraishi felt he had complete creative control over—and it very much shows, a demarcating point between those films and ones like Kinki, Senritsu Kaiki, and others.

unlabelledView post →Okay chooms I have two choices for what to watch tonight, both Koji Shiraishi films -About a Place in the Kinki Region (his newest movie, Noroi-esque found footage) -Ura Horror (short film anthology/sketchbook) New movie or badly needed revisit?
unlabelledView post →For tonight's Midnight Movie Madness, I'm going into the world of Japanese found-footage. In anticipation to watching KINKI by Koji Shiraishi in the cinema in a few weeks, I'll be watching several of these. Suggestions are welcome. I present to you fuki_jukai.mov by Katsumi Sakashita.

unlabelledView post →About a Place in the Kinki Region This was a fun read that felt like reading a Kōji Shiraishi film. The book is laid out with scraps of stories and interviews that seem scattered but all start to fall together over time. Although the spell things out a little too much at the end...
unlabelledView post →Noroi is an all timer. Shiraishi's new one, About a Place in the Kinki Region (aka Kinki), fuckin rips as well. and definitely check out his Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi! film series, that shit goes crazy
unlabelledView post →I would like KINKI to remain my most popular review as it is nice knowing my most most popular is for a movie I like but it be not like that
unlabelledView post →Now that im unemployed i can catch up on my movie backlog. Just finished Kinki (2025), enjoyed the watch
unlabelledView post →I really loved Kinki. I think the book is WAY more evocative and cool than the movie they made, there’s so many horrifying images I could picture so clearly. Strange is on my to-buy list.
unlabelledView post →I just finished the About a Place in the Kinki Region novel, great book. I'm enough of a Shira-head that I think you're fine to watch the movie first, but if you love reading horror fiction I definitely recommend the book.
unlabelledView post →Kinki (Koji Shiraishi, 2025) “Thank you for finding me…” The best director working in horror today makes the best horror movie of the year.
unlabelledView post →I'm finally done with the subtitles for "Shoot!" (1994), also known as "Hit the Goal" ⚽️ The plot of the movie is loosely based on a manga, and the actors are mostly the guys from SMAP, as well as Kinki Kids. Soccer adviser was Ruy Ramos, who also makes a cameo!

unlabelledView post →Noroi: the Curse is such a banger, Tubi has you eating good tonight. If you liked Noroi, Shiraishi's latest movie "About a Place in the Kinki Region" is really good too!
unlabelledView post →Have you watched Koji Shiraishi's newest film Kinki? And if so, what are your thoughts on it? I personally might like it even more than Noroi.
unlabelledView post →KINKI is the one truly scary film at @NYAFF. Its the one that remained scary and didn't undercut the chills with jokes. See it www.unseenfilms.net/2026/07/kink...
unlabelledView post →Koji Shiraishi movies are so insuferable, it's always some missoginistic cult plot for 80min and the last 5 are a literal youtube poop. Kinki feels better than Noroi or Occult cause of the natural cgi development but it's just the exact same movie for the third time now.
unlabelledView post →About a Place in the Kinki Region!! The movie was solid and a fun watch (but agreed not particularly scary!) - but I think the book delivered the unnerving factor much, much better!! 🙂↕️
unlabelledView post →Kinki Region is *so* fascinating to compare with the film, especially where they zag in different yet complimentary directions
unlabelledView post →He directed that movie (& I own it) but now he's directed a new movie based on the book ABOUT A PLACE IN THE KINKI REGION :)
unlabelledView post →There's a Kinki Region book? That seems interesting, the movie seemed so much like it was made for it's medium.
