Jesus Revolution
In the 1970s, aimless teenager Greg Laurie searches for all the right things in all the wrong places until he meets Lonnie Frisbee, a charismatic hippie/street preacher. Together with local pastor Chuck Smith, they open the doors of a languishing church to an unexpected revival. From TMDB

I thought you were joking and googled him: “Jonathan Roumie is an American actor known for his role as Jesus in The Chosen, a crowd-funded television series about the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. In 2023, he portrayed evangelist Lonnie Frisbee in the film Jesus Revolution.”

They appear on The Babylon Bee and their last movie was “The Jesus Revolution” about Lonnie Frisbee, but the story conveniently stops before Lonnie came out as gay and his fellow pastors excommunicated him and said he was better off when he died of AIDS

unlabelledView post →This is putting me in mind of films or mini-series' that would have gone straight to basic cable TV like TNT, but given a theatrical run by the uber-Christian astroturfing movie studio. Also it's from the director of The Jesus Magic and Jesus Revolution so I'm guessing there's a lot of God in it.
unlabelledView post →I complete misunderstood what Kelsey Grammer's Jesus Revolution would be about. Thought it would be more of a secular movie about hippies in the 60s. Only reason I didn't leave early was because I was trying to avoid dealing with mice at my house.

The formal educational system never teaches about it and media stays away from overt criticisms of the modern Christian revival - unless there’s a positive message (see Jesus Revolution on Netflix).

unlabelledView post →JESUS REVOLUTION (2023) ★★ Unusually well made for a faith-based film, with a sunny look that fits its 1960s setting, and a good performance by #KelseyGrammer. The story is weaker and simplifies too much, including its portrait of the controversial preacher Lonnie Frisbee.

They have been getting better, Cabrini was actually good, Ordinary Angels & Jesus Revolution well made with excellent performances, & Sound of Freedom a blockbuster. But this script of a cool story is awful, and I forgive a lot in an xmas movie.

His daughter (Ally Ioannides) brings home a hippie “Jesus freak” (Jonathan Roumie) and he sees that he’s genuine and gifted. The team-up sparks a movement that spreads for the next several years.
