What people are saying
A divisive indie horror with strong atmosphere but janky combat.
Many players praise the game's atmosphere and creative environments, especially the amusement park section with its rides and mini-games. The carnival is described as a 'real blast' and 'AMAZING', with one player calling it 'a tour de force'. [1][21][9]
However, critics point to clunky combat, confusing objectives, and technical issues like poor optimization and AI-generated voice acting. Some feel the horror fades after the first area, turning into a 'mindless shooter'. [24][27][28][33]

NEGATIVE POINTS: - While there is a good variety of enemies, I wish there were more. - There is little variety of weapons. - The torch…

In this game your character explores 3 distinct areas, solves several minor puzzles, and shoots creepy living zombie mannequins. Each area is just over an hour in length. The first area is a house, the second area is a sewer / underground cavern, and the third area is an amusment park. Total gametime is around 4-5 hours in length to 100%. + The levels are extremely well designed, especially the last amusement park level. + Tons of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sorry to say but this game is far too flawed to recommend, it looks quite good artistically but that's about it. First of all on the strongest aspect, the art, there's barely any enemy models, you'll be seeing the same 3 spiders and 1 doll for pretty much the entire game and there's a lot of use of very bad AI art in the second half of the game, but while a lot of the enviromental models are clearly bought assets they don't feel mismatching. Then the voice acting and writing, both are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From my personal experience, I did not enjoy this game. I'm not sure where my expectations went wrong, but the trailer with hype music made me think this would be a slightly faster paced game with more instances of small enemy hordes. In the 2 hours before I refunded the game, I did not experience any of that... This was a slow burner and I spent most of my time wandering around, aimlessly looking for my next objective to solve a puzzle because of some obscure detail that prevented me from…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a really good time with this, it's a total perfect pick for the Halloween season! 🎃 My favorite part was just wandering around and exploring the theme parks. The game's biggest strength is easily its vibe and atmosphere. The areas are super creative and there's always something new to look at, so it never got boring. It's really all about that vibe, 'cause the story itself was... fine? Just okay. Not the main reason you'd play this. It was also cool that you can actually ride a…

Great atmosphere, scenarios and mostly gore theme and minigames, not even resident evil games get this kind of level on that, very spooky and scary with this puppets sometimes and some others laughtable, it's a surprising good indie horror game, might even have been resident evil 9 XD The gameplay is neat as fps with original minigames being a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man I REALLY wanted to like this game. The premise seemed really cool and the trailer looked awesome. However while it does have its strong points a lot of it teeters on more of the negative side. While i loved all the level designs and amusement park. Its monsters were very few and far between which really didn't fit a particular theme. The boss fights were easy but the game mechanics and movement made anything like dodging near impossible. Let me preface this by saying I wish the story was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is for any fans of survival horror in general it has awesome atmosphere and storytelling. The combat is pretty solid and the first time you fight a enemy your not expecting it 5 out of 5. i Just finished the game is was one hell of a ride i would absolutely recommended this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wait for a Sale This game has a lot going for it and it's really neat, but it's definitely a difficult recommendation. It's got a lot of charm to it and the vision is there, but it is quite rough at times. Pros: Decent gameplay with an interesting story Rides are fun and interesting Atmosphere is amazing The varying areas are neat and each level is drastically different with it's scenery. Not too many jumpscares. The few used are used well. Provides plenty of health and ammo throughout. Just…

YOur bullets almost do nothing, you move as slow as if both your legs got crippled and after getting insta murdered twice i figured this piece of Ai slop and it's very poor translation is not for me. Cool concept, terrible execution. Edit: "Sorry but the game is not made with ai at all. If you're not good at the game because it's complicated, then tough luck, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looked interesting. Voice Acting is... AI? I see no mention of generative AI in the store description, so maybe it's a real person.. But it sounds like AI. And it isn't great. Anyway, I made it to the sewer and jumped into the menu/options so I could see if there was a way to increase brightness. The game's dark and your flashlight is garbage. Excited the menu to find that I couldn't move or do anything. I'm disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't possibly explain what a surprise this game was. I'm not sure it would have even been on my radar if I wasn't a sucker for amusement park-based survival horror. Niche genre, I'll concede. But boy, what a ride. I don't think I've had this much fun with a horror title since We Create Stuff's brilliant In Sound Mind from 2021. I could explain the premise, but honestly, the plot here is barely existent. You're a lazy dude who's been roped into 'the family business', which evidently involves…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off, let’s talk about the ambiance. Man, it’s like they’ve bottled up all the spookiness in the world and poured it into this game. The settings are so eerie, it’s like walking through a haunted house with a blindfold. You never know what’s gonna pop out next! It’s like Halloween all year round in this game, and I’m here for it! Now, onto the fun factor. This game is more fun than a barrel of monkeys playing hide and seek in a banana factory. The puzzles are as tricky as a fox in a hen…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jack Holmes: Master of Puppets tries to be a horror game. I mean, don't get me wrong. In the beginning when you arrive at the house, it's really good and scary. But when you get the pistol in the basement, the horror basically vanishes away. The game turns into a puppet shooter. But i have to admit there were 2 levels i really liked. The one with the tiny village creatures (i killed them all muhahaha!) and the story with the child where his toy getting alive. Before i forget, the games…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Jack Holmes: Master of Puppets* starts strong — an eerie old house, creepy dolls, and a tense mine section with disgusting spiders. You keep waiting to reach the amusement park… and then it all falls apart. Once you get there, it turns into a mindless shooter with barely any atmosphere and enemies that shred your health in seconds. The concept had real potential, but it’s wasted in a wave of cheap gunfights. Maybe worth grabbing in a sale for a few euros if you’re into short…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you like Rob Zombie? Do you think a gorey Alice in Wonderland is an acquired taste - and one that you certainly have? Do you think Terrifier 2 is a must-see? Then Jack Holmes: Master of Puppets will be right up your alley. The Carnival act is a real tour de force, nothing can prepare you for it. Super fun. The game itself is gorey, colourful, hard, everything that a tongue-in-cheek game should be. Incredible that just one person could do all this. And what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up mind he has! Do not get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has potential to be interestin'. I spent most of my play time tryin' to get into the house lol. The game looks solid graphically and ran smooth for the most part. It features voice acting which gets bonus points from me. I liked the atmosphere leadin' up to the house bit. Shall update review when I pick it back up. Gameplay Impressions: https://youtu.be/xFdrE82_ovg
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wished for some no-brains horror survival shooter, as a "bonus" got some find the hidden object puzzles that take you back and forth in the same environment. The AI narrated monologues and plot is on the level of "so bad that it is good". But the game design choices take me out of it. It is dark most of the time, and looking for items like ammo and health kits is expected. But the fact that important points like doors or even save points might be missed initially due to the lack of highlighting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was such a refreshing surprise, especially knowing it came from a solo dev. The carnival section felt like a collection of mini-games wrapped in one, each more creative than the last. Most indie horror titles focus purely on fear, but Jack Holmes dares to blend humor and heart with its survival horror elements—and it works brilliantly. The puzzles are clever, the tension is real, but the amusement park steals the show. It’s like stepping into a spooky reimagining of childhood…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just completed this game 100% and enjoyed pretty much most of my experience. I wanted to support an indie dev by leaving my quick review. Pros + Beautiful fun fair. No idea how the dev created this all by himself! +Plenty of variety in the game. Enjoy funfair rides, shoot evil puppets, explore creepy rooms +Short n sweet, doesn't outstay its welcome +Some really creepy, atmospheric moments +Dev is a cool dude. Very open to suggestions and fast to fix bugs Cons -Performance can tank…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First-person survival horror game made by a single developer that has its shortcomings, but overall it gives you a very good feeling of gameplay and very enjoyable, at a very competitive price and visually very striking (my favorite parts: Animal Village and Bubu's Funhouse, especially this, it has a very creepy atmosphere!)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →no cloud support = not wasting my time. I would love to occasionally put progress into this but not in one solid chunk. this is a basic hidden object walking sim puzzle waste of time sort of game but the environments are interesting, are done well enough and UE4 is very refreshing. has achievements but no cloud support. pretty lame. worth like 3-5 bucks and thats if you are into the genre. a dollar or less for anyone who couldn't be bothered with walking sim puzzle adventure narrative titles
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This would be a neutral review if Steam would allow it. It's an okish indie survival horror game. Definitly not as good as the review score would imply. If you can get it at a high discount, you can do worse though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The amount of love the creator put into this game is ASTRONOMICAL! Honestly this would have been one of my all time favorite games if the mouse acceleration didn't make me so motion sick!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the thing with this game is that it is insanely well made and the love of detail is almost ridiculous (not meant in a bad way and side note; the dev seems to absolutely adore the carnival scene) so even though the story isn't that great or deep the game itself with all its theme changing levels makes up for it. edit: this part below has been updated / fixed by the developer. vvvvv sadly even after almost one year this game has a very very annoying hiccups as in being unable to get back up…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid FPS survival horror indie and well worth the price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jack Holmes: Master of Puppets: a must-play game, crafted by a single developer, was a huge surprise with its captivating world and amusement park. The amusement park, complete with functioning rides, is an incredible feature, and it adds an immersive layer to the horror experience. While the English voice acting falls short, the meticulously designed enemies and attention to detail create an atmospheric masterpiece. I can´t wait to see what else this developer does. 8 out of 10

I clipped through the environment a few times, the bosses are all stupid, the AI gets stuck quite often, the frame-rate takes several massive dives due to poor optimisation, and for a game featuring several roller-coasters (and I know this is gonna sound super picky) they have been modelled with plenty enthusiasm for theme, but zero enthusiasm for how physics works. Yes I'm a bit of a nerd about roller-coasters. Sorry! But good…

He either needs glasses (or I do) or get a better torch since I can't see 1 step in front of him. Get it on sale or pay full price, either way I don't care. And now I'm going to bed for a nap.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bare bones walking simulator with an uninspired and gory setting. I was expecting something special based on the fervor of the reviews, but it seems like this game has been generously astroturfed. Many of the positive reviews don't even feel like we played the same game. My main issues are: 1. Poor quality writing. Much of the dialog feels like it was written by someone who doesn't speak english and machine translated, and the voice actor didn't do anything to correct the issues…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a GREAT game! The graphics are fantastic and the story line is very good. Personally, I've never played a game quite like it - and that's a good thing! The changing scenery and challenges from one level to the next are extremely well done. There were a couple of places where the challenges, for me, were very difficult and tedious, due to the save points being a bit too far apart, but part of that problem was probably more on me than the game itself. This is a game that draws you in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent game for being made by only one person and for the price. There are janky parts here and there and some things could be handle better but the the ideas and imagination put behind it are pretty interesting. I wish the story would be fleshed out more though but again it is at least worth a play if interested in body horror gore, also play the prologue to get a better understanding on the lore. It is good enough for me to be interested in a sequel All in all I would have to say a decent…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice idea, but too many unnecessary flaws
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a charming mess of a game. The biggest issues are that the combat feels clunky and finding your objectives can be confusing. For better or worse, stages vary enough that every 20 minutes it feels like you're playing a different game. The scope of what's in here from a solo developer is impressive but none of it feels polished. I thought it was still a lot of fun but It's definitely not for everyone. If you're a horror fan who is ok with some jank, give it a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is not a good action game by any means but it's a good game in different things especially the environments they put out for you and the lovely rides and the gory visuals it's fun although i wish it was more obvious the things needed to do to progress the game sometimes thing are not clear enough. only play this if you are willing to put up with janky combat, buggy boss fights and being lost for a bit.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a surprisingly good survival horror game. Like in most horror games the scary part gets weaker in the second half of the game, but all in all I am very satisfied. There are some issues with balancing, the combat system and options menu, but I am sure these will get improved quite fast. I barely can believe how much love to detail was put into this project by a single developer, My personal highlight was the attraction Animal Village.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, the carnival was AMAZING!!! I was blown away with how much work went into the park from a two person team. The KRAKEN ride was UNBELIEVABLE with the length and how much they put into it. It was well worth the travel to explore everything the carnival had to offer. For me, the park was about 4 hours of playtime. The big downside is that it takes 3 hours to get to the carnival. There's an origin story to cover before you get here. I really wanted to get straight into the carnival and…

Yet, for the first one, it's not a bad start. -See Below for Deeper Review- Gameplay: FPS Horror with a light sprinkle of some gunplay that isn't great, but isn't the worse I've ever seen. You can jump, there's puzzles and items to interact with. There's even a few achievement/easter egg style thing sprinkled in. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What can I say? It was an experience but in a good way. With this game I found more of what I expected, both in terms of graphics, story and enemies. Everything starts like your usual horror game: you go to investigate and end up in an unfamiliar environment with weird-looking marionettes. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3620195723 The plot is told through in-game documents and through the environment and enemies themselves. Your defensive weapons are a gun and a shotgun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An ugly super dark game where only a tenth of your screen is lit when using the flashlight. I love indie game, I love survival horror. This unfortunately isn't it. But, I think these folks next game has the chance to be pretty good if they learn from the flaws with this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jack Holmes is a funky protagonist. ... no seriously. What is him. He's a manchild delivering odd one-liners with really enthusiastic voice acting. Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% here for it, but was he intended to be this amusing? Oh yeh. Game's cool too. Imaginative and colorful setting (once you get to the carnival). Good music if sometimes slightly unfitting; there was a few times I stopped and went "wait, why does this have 'a beat' to it". Protag is strangely cute and wholesome with his…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →II really enjoyed this game, It has a few minor details that might need looking into, but overall it is a great game, I give it a 9 out of 10. Kudos to the person that made this game by himself.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sure there's a little jank but this is a very impressive game with lots of memorable moments. And those rides were awesome! Kraken's Island (a pirates of the caribbean copy) was wild!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boredom in Unreal 4.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Jack Holmes: Master of Puppets, developed by @TonyDevGame and published by indie.io, is a first-person survival horror game that embraces excess—both in its design and its tone. It pulls heavily from classic horror influences while pushing toward a more chaotic, spectacle-driven experience, blending traditional exploration with action-oriented encounters and a constant stream of shifting environments. Rather than focusing on a tightly controlled narrative or consistent pacing, the game opts for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Impressive! Lots of visual candy with mini games within each area. I did have problems trying to figure out some of the puzzles and with no gamma adjustment, extremely difficult trying to see anything around me; including walls, paths, and enemies on a 32" curved monitor. The darkness added to the experience but, these old man's eyes could not focus.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, fun and full of inventive ideas, never gets boring. Amazing work for a solodev. Can't wait to play the others!

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game had promise, the game trailer was amazing and had me hooked. Looked like a spiritual successor to the House of the Dead arcade game I used to play as a kid. Even with the negative review I am giving, I still believe if the developer fixed some critical issues, it would probably be a good game. With that said. I have ended up refunding the game. Here is why: 1. Controllers make no sense. Basic buttons like flashlight and attack are set to nonstandard keys you wouldn't expect. Even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a fun game. Super creepy but a great time. My only complaint is that some of the monsters move really fast and stick on you if you dont kill them fast enough. Outside of that this is excellent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fantastic effort!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is very interesting game which is oozing with charm and imagination, it's clear a lot of work went into it and it offers a surprising amount of content with some great standout sections. It's also quite buggy, painfully unoptimised at times and completely ignores many game design fundamentals. I genuinely don't think I've ever played a game where it's this easy to walk past a key item or your only weapon in the area. There's one point where you cross a bridge then turn left and a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed this game a lot, but I do think that enjoyability really depends on the person playing it. This is a game that you'll spend a lot of time digging around in, looking for ammo, looking for items or passwords you'll need to progress, enemy attacks aren't extremely common, and they often don't hit very hard when they do attack, but, they can, and will, quickly overwhelm you if you're not on your toes about it the entire game. There are a few cheap jumpscares here and there, not…
