What people are saying

Overwhelmingly positive: a satisfying, immersive artillery sim with great sound design and a cat.

Players praise the game's immersive machinery and sound design, calling it "the poster child for good sound design" and noting that you can observe, hear, and feel the machine around you crank and whine. The cat is a beloved feature, with one player saying "you can customize the said cat" and another describing how you can carry them around for cuddles. [6][5][2][20]

Some players find the game too easy or simple for long-term play, with one saying "the game is decent, but far too easy" and another noting "a bit simple for the long haul." Others request co-op or multiplayer, with one player stating I would LOVE to be able to Co-op in this game with up to 4 friends. A few also mention the lack of mid-mission saves as a drawback. [15][19][7][35]

Critics, per Wikipedia

Iron Nest received "universal acclaim", according to review aggregator Metacritic. Writing for PCGamesN, Paul Kelly compared playing Iron Nest to reaching a flow state at a manual job, describing the work of mechanically operating the turret as satisfying and engrossing, and that "It makes hitting that target so much more satisfying knowing that I did everything with my own two hands". Kelly described the game as a test of the player's organizational skills and specifically complimented the implementation of the in-game notepad. Sean Martin of PC Gamer similarly described the mechanics of firing the turret as a ritual that became "strangely relaxing" with practice. Martin further described…

I think I would have had straight A+ in math class in school if they just told me I was calculating a white phosphorus artillery trajectroy to take out rebels. Fun game. - No performance issue on a laptop. - Has a cat - You can customize the said cat - Elementary school level math required

I'm a Marine Veteran, specifically an 0844 Fire Direction Control man. This game is not too far off how actual calculations for artillery are done - really impressed and brings back memories of conducting fire missions. To the developers, excellent work - very satisfying for someone who's done this in a real world scenario (the coffee maker at the start menu is a brilliant detail - the FDC runs on coffee!)

Played during next fest, absolutely fantastic. You can observe, hear, and feel the machine around you crank and whine and click when you do anything mechanical in the game. You enter a flow like state walking through the firing mission and I have NEVER had a more satisfied feeling than pulling the final lever to get the best THUNK/BOOM in all of gaming. As a bonus, the main menu also has an espresso machine. 10/10.

WHAT!? YOU GOTTA SPEAK UP! NO, THEY SAY IT'S NOT SERVICE RELATED! This game is the poster child for good sound design. The deafening shots and every metallic creak make the Iron Nest feel incredible. Overall it scratches a very specific itch if you love big machinery and doing repetitive procedures efficiently. As the levels go on you learn new ways to triangulate and you get your own workflow that feels really good.

They have called the 'tism, the 'tism answered, and now they have one of the best 'tism communities ever assembled. The game is essentially an autism simulator in the best kind of way, press buttons and pull levers and turn wheels. And, blow stuff up in the process. Dear developers, Please stop making the game easier. Seriously. I don’t want the game to calculate the gun elevation for me. I WANT TO DO IT BY HAND. Give me the projectile mass. Give me the muzzle velocity. Give me the air resistance coefficient. Give me gravity. Give me the barrel length. Give me whatever cursed equations you are using. I want to sit there with a calculator, a piece of paper, and absolutely unnecessary confidence, calculating the firing angle myself. I want to miss the…

The game is decent, but far too easy. It’s good for a couple of evenings. My friends described it as something really challenging, where you’d have to use mathematical formulas to calculate things, but in the end, it mostly comes down to repetitive tasks. Only in one mission do you actually have to calculate the elevation angle of the gun yourself, and even that is about elementary-school level. If you have even a basic understanding of how to calculate values from one another or how to draw a…

Have one person on the keyboard feeding info to the second person with a notebook and pen, then completely ignore the in-game clipboard function, and pass info like bearings and distance back and forth as needed. Feels like being on a real firing crew!

A fun little game about slinging shells, but a bit simple for the long haul. It's worth the asking price though. Following will just be some personal grievances. In other "thinking under pressure" games (so something like Papers Please), you usually have a ramp-up in complexity as the game goes on, but Iron Nest has little more to introduce once you've seen your first moving target. Most missions are just testing efficiency with no time component, meaning that you're just doing light puzzles.…

So, there's a cat and you can do so much with them. You can carry them around for cuddles, you can shoo them when they get a little annoying, sometimes they'll roll over and sleep and you can stare at the little toe beans. One time, the cat purred and it was very cute which was great until I found out you could customise the cat! You can make them a heckin' chonky boi with big squishy cheeks and even give them a tiny little hat! It's very adorable. + it comes with a whole extra side quest…

Absolutely peak game, GLORIOUS developers,, if you like artillery and you are at least a bit autistic about it, you have to try this, regional pricing too... Mmm absolute Peak, the only thing better is if there was not only multiplayer planned for multiple nests, but for multiple people in the same nest, but to be fair devs said they plan it as a different game, and from game dev perspective I'd agree, so 11/10

This game needs workshop integration for making custom scenarios! Great experience, didn't get boring at any moment. Nearly every mission has a gimmick spicing up the gameplay, for example I enjoyed very much the level where the distance calculator is broken. Sound design is VERY good, all these mechanical sounds are pleasant to hear.

Reaching for a colon likely means you're not confident that the name you've chosen does the job. Go back to that. (You are allowed to have a tagline that makes the game easier to search for, like Iron Nest: Heavy Turret Simulator, which has that in its Steam name but not in its key art.)

Iron Nest has the bones of a great game, but there is just not enough meat on it so far First off, if you want to experience the heavy war-machinery operation fantasy, Iron Nest delivers it, the machine is slow and chunky, the audio design is stellar. TL;DR: Best artillery sim mechanics I've played. Sabotaged by a memory leak and zero mid-mission saves. I bought this game to escape my math and physics classes, and somehow ended up paying fifteen bucks to sit in a claustrophobic dieselpunk metal box doing raw trigonometry. Iron Nest has an interesting concept. The game revolves around triangulation - essentially very basic geometry using coordinates and information from spotters/intelligence to work out where to aim your cannon. It's a neat mechanic at first, and figuring it out during the first couple of missions is actually quite satisfying. The problem is that you nail the mechanic after about two missions… and that's basically 95% of the game. The core gameplay loop is: Get coordinates/intel → do some…
