Was great to watch with a friend so we could puzzle things out as they happened. Really loved this one, dreamy, scary and loved the cinematography. 4.5/5⭐️ #filmsky
unlabelledView post →We tried to watch Inland Empire too soon after Mulholland Drive and husb said Lynch movies are like having a Sanity Meter in a survival horror game but instead it’s a Confusion Meter and if the meter gets too high you have to start the movie again from the beginning.
unlabelledView post →When they were shooting Inland Empire, they used a warehouse space in Northridge that wasn’t built for film production. It wasn’t soundproofed or weatherproofed, but it was cheap, and David could rent it for months on end for nothing.
unlabelledView post →David Lynch never directed a film after Inland Empire in 2006. Couldn’t get financing. Just let that sink in for a moment.
unlabelledView post →Inland Empire premiered at the Venice Film Festival 20 years ago today.
unlabelledView post →Awful news. What a creative talent Saw Inland Empire in cinema in Belfast. About 20mins from end the film burned up in the projector - but audience (me included) thought that just must be the end of a pretty unorthodox film and started leaving. Cue cinema staff running out: ‘it’s not over!!’
unlabelledView post →I remember seeing INLAND EMPIRE the first time and at a certain point I literally felt like I'd been drawn into the reality of the movie, like a bad dream I couldn't wake up from - that's fucking cinema, my friends
unlabelledView post →I like A SNAKE OF JUNE and I SAW THE TV GLOW and INLAND EMPIRE and MARIE ANTOINETTE and LAKE MUNGO and PULSE and PULSE and SPARROW and NO HOME MOVIE and AFTERSUN and THE LORDS OF SALEM and HAGAZUSSA and THE DEEP BLUE SEA and PERSONAL SHOPPER and UNDER THE SKIN & many more films from the 21st century
unlabelledView post →So I walked past IFC one night and I see a sign that says INLAND EMPIRE - SEE IT 9 TIMES AND THE 10TH IS FREE and I cracked up bc I had seen the movie Went to the teller, explained I didn't want a ticket, but had anybody gotten their free ticket, and she started laughing and a guy was on 7
unlabelledView post →Inland Empire is, minute for minute, the most David Lynch you can fit in a David Lynch film
unlabelledView post →This isn't my favorite Lynch (hey INLAND EMPIRE!) but Laura Dern in this movie worked like a Pokémon evolution stone on young me. Also Willem Dafoe intense as heck. Iconic stuff www.criterion.com/films/35257-...
unlabelledView post →INLAND EMPIRE and DUCK AMUCK are the same movie. Think about it
unlabelledView post →INLAND EMPIRE appears to be a movie about how making movies sucks and will ruin your life
unlabelledView post →guy who has only ever seen Inland Empire, watching his second movie: you know I'm not actually getting a lot of Inland Empire vibes from this
unlabelledView post →A bit of trivia: Did you know that Rabbits, a short film originally made for David Lynch's website, was entirely re-shot for Inland Empire?
unlabelledView post →saw Inland Empire in theaters and the distorted face jump scare was so terrifying a girl in the audience spent the rest of the film hyperventilating through a mix of tears and laughter while being consoled by her friends. 10/10
unlabelledView post →One of the strongest voices in popular film, few directors are bold and crazy enough for their final film statement (posthumous works withstanding) to be a movie as batshit as Inland Empire You were so real Lynch, rest easy
unlabelledView post →What actor's expression in a movie will stay with you for the rest of your life? Laura Dern's absolutely terrifying expression in Inland Empire.
unlabelledView post →the kind of person that thinks Inland Empire is just a David Lynch film
unlabelledView post →The best thing about Frankenstein discourse is that it's really cemented how much I don't care about other people's opinions on art. "Frankenstein is too much of a villain." "Inland Empire doesn't make sense." "Cat People isn't scary enough." If I love a movie I just don't care if you don't like it.
unlabelledView post →It’s a damn David Lynch movie going on in there. It’s a damn Inland Empire
unlabelledView post →I had the privilege of interviewing the great David Lynch for his final and maddest film Inland Empire. It was 18 years ago, but it feels so much more recent – I guess Lynch stays with you. I loved him. If you fancy a read, here's the link www.theguardian.com/film/2007/fe...
unlabelledView post →for the @lwlies.com series on the works of David Lynch, i was asked to write about Inland Empire. you can read this film from many angles, but on rewatch it unlocked for me in a specific way:
unlabelledView post →Last night I watched Lynch’s Inland Empire and it was so utterly hypnotic that my FitBit decided I was in REM sleep and clocked me as sleeping 10 hours last night. The movie is 3 hours long.
unlabelledView post →I saw INLAND EMPIRE in a damn movie theatre (it screened at the Royal) and I had a cup of David Lynch coffee which they were serving at concessions. So there
unlabelledView post →tbh i should get extra points for deciding Inland Empire was my favorite Lynch film 15 years ago now that seemingly everyone is deciding its their favorite now. you're 15 years behind the curve, folks.
unlabelledView post →David Lynch on the set of Inland Empire (2006) He actually shot the film on Sony camcorders like the one he's holding
unlabelledView post →technically T2 is the most Inland Empire movie along with Bill & Ted but none of y'all need to know what that means
unlabelledView post →Adding to that, I just finished going to 10 days of David Lynch at the Music Box, and every main film screening was either at capacity or nearly so, in a space that seats 700. Fucking INLAND EMPIRE was completely sold out. Sure a lot of moviegoing is outdated, but not in how he's presenting it.
unlabelledView post →INLAND EMPIRE- Then it hits you like a truck full of alarm clocks: you are a character in a Disney film. You do not exist. HALF-LIGHT- If you don't exist, neither do they. Might as well kick some ass. VOLITION- who? ANGER- does it matter?
unlabelledView post →When I went to see Inland Empire at the IFC Theater at W4th St, David Lynch came into the theater unannounced and proceeded to hawk his brand of coffee to us for about 2-3 minutes then abruptly split, leaving the couple dozen people waiting for the film to start wondering if it had really happened.
unlabelledView post →My essay on INLAND EMPIRE will likely be up on Saturday. I consider myself an expert on Lynch, and this is easily his most difficult film to write about. Moreso than usual, there isn't a definitive way to look at it. All that you can really trust is what's resonating & then listen to that
unlabelledView post →This is a busy week for David Lynch essays over on my site. The next Twin Peaks piece will be up tomorrow and later in the week INLAND EMPIRE. I've always considered IE to be my white whale. It's an intimidating film to write about, and I'm excited to see where it takes me.
unlabelledView post →I was lucky enough to see David Lynch in person when he brought "Inland Empire" around to theaters on his own. During the after-movie Q and A a young lady asked him "what's up with the bunnies?" and his reply was simply "those aren't bunnies - they're rabbits".
unlabelledView post →Lynch is such a fucking good counterexample. Eraserhead took five years to film because he kept running out of money! After he made Inland Empire no one would give him a dime to make movies so he just learned to animate. He painted, recorded albums, and just worked because he was an artist.
unlabelledView post →Other than the 2017 TV series, the industry did not really support Lynch and help him make new movies and other film work from 2000 or so until now - about 25 years. Inland Empire was prob self-produced.
unlabelledView post →one of my favorite Lynch things is this short film that was an extra on the Inland Empire DVD where he explains how to cook quinoa: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSP-...
unlabelledView post →I think Fire Walk with Me is my favorite Lynch movie. Mulholland Drive and Inland Empire tied for second favorite.
unlabelledView post →That there will never be a new Lynch film is an understandable sorrow. But take heart in the joys of watching INLAND EMPIRE a dozen times in a row and still never understanding what the fuck is going on.
unlabelledView post →A Twin Peaks thing I think about often is the season 2 opener and that close-up on Bob’s gnashing teeth. It looks SO digital. Pure Inland Empire. I have no idea how they would’ve done that on film in 1990?
unlabelledView post →Watching Inland Empire in a crowded movie theater on Easter Sunday was the greatest theater going experience of my life
unlabelledView post →INLAND EMPIRE is currently streaming on the Criterion Channel if you'd like to watch the film that David Lynch once described as, "a three hour movie that no one understands." A sample of my essay on INLAND EMPIRE can be read here: letterboxd.com/catelyn/film...
unlabelledView post →the only film of David’s i have yet to watch is Inland Empire - and i hope to find a physical copy of The Straight Story - i’m broken, shattered, shocked.
unlabelledView post →[whispering to date while watching David Lynch's 2002 short film "Rabbits," which would later be integrated into the magnum opus Inland Empire, when the rabbits first appear on the screen] Those are the rabbits
unlabelledView post →Finally watched Inland Empire. I know that Twin Peaks is often cited as an obvious influence on Alan Wake, but this film really reminded me of Alan Wake 2 on so many levels. I could understand not having the patience for Lynch’s style here, but I loved it.
unlabelledView post →What if I've never seen a movie of any kind before? Should I start with Inland Empire?
unlabelledView post →#Watched Inland Empire (2006) - Holy hell, I bounced off this HARD. A rare time when seeing a movie in the theater felt like it made the experience worse, the big screen exacerbated the low-resolution digital video, making the cinematography even uglier and more like a cheap Japanese tv drama. /1
unlabelledView post →The moment in INLAND EMPIRE where everything starts folding in on itself and the whole movie starts coming together. Absolute magic.
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching for the first time, Inland Empire. I’m a huge David Lynch fan and haven’t seen this one yet (it’s 3 hrs long 😬). I think this has horror elements to it. I bought this last week when the Criterion website had their huge sale. 😃👍🏼 #MutantFam #DavidLynch #Film
unlabelledView post →USA filmmaker, actor, painter, and musician David Lynch (Capricorn? Aquarius?) was BOTD in 1946 and died in 2025 at the age of 78. My favourite Lynch film is the harrowing, nightmarish "Inland Empire" (2006), one of the most brutal films about Hollywood ever made
unlabelledView post →Um... WAH is not a California based film (in story). His actual L.A. (thematic) Trilogy is: Lost Highway Mulholland Drive Inland Empire
unlabelledView post →Stanley Kubrick's final film, "Eyes Wide Shut" is amazing but it also plays like the missing film in David Lynch's filmography between "Lost Highway" and "Inland Empire".
unlabelledView post →“Evoking it in a mere review is a doomed enterprise; Lynch seems to have constructed the film deliberately to evade the butterfly nets of critical response altogether.” Revisit Michael Atkinson’s rave review of David Lynch’s Inland Empire, from our April 2007 issue. www.bfi.org.uk/sight-and-so...
unlabelledView post →We just watched Inland Empire this past weekend and it was the most confusing impenetrable movie experience I think I've ever had and I loved it. Fuck man. RIP 😔
unlabelledView post →To all my INLAND EMPIRE werewolf fans and anyone else that wants to come support a local theater chain. Starlight Terra Vista showing WEREWOLVES at 8pm. I’ll hang and watch the movie with you. #werewolvesmovie www.starlightcinemas.com/movies/30413...

unlabelledView post →This graphic of how Inland Empire was shot on digital and then converted to film and then remastered for digital is so psychotic. I love it so much
unlabelledView post →Tonight I feel like putting on something familiar and light. A comfort movie, if you will. Now rewatching Inland Empire #Filmsky 📽️
unlabelledView post →I rewatched Inland Empire (2006) last night. My god, what a work of art. The use of light, the presence of camera, and digital video grain. Definitely Lynch’s most impactful and terrifying film for my money. And Laura Dern is astounding
unlabelledView post →I wanna have an Inland Empire watch party so bad. Like hi friends please come over and watch this surreal 3 hour long camcorder movie, I wanna see your brains melt.
