It’s like Crusader Kings, but for the poor. It's mostly a reskin of Aggressors: Ancient Rome, only with Greeks instead of Romans. It's a great game if you like historical 4x. I way prefer it to Civ because the mechanics are far more "mature" (it uses army supply, fairly complex battle resolution algorithms and the economics system in it is one of the better ones in a 4x yet) and the AI is actually pretty good, but the basic graphics are a turn off for some. It is an incredibly detailed game,…

This game has some great ideas. Shame that these are woefully incoporated. The controlls itself are clunky. The diplomacy system, while being fun, could be better.. Being able to see immediatly who is at war with whom would be great. Having played the tutorial and afterwards a long campaign with sparta brought me to the point of ragequitting. After having conquered greece i was at war with persia. No problem here i thought. At first i'd tried taking the agean isles. But thanks to random storms…

Let me start with a comment on negative reviews: theres a bunch of them and only one that is anywhere close to having any valid critisism. Every other negatives ive read were from people clearly too dumb to understand basic concepts of the game, most of them after ~0.9 hours played (sic). If you cant be bothered to even finish tutorial, it is your problem, not the game's. Ok with that out of the way, lets move on to the review. Imperiums: Greek Wars is a mix of 4x and grand strategy game. Guys…

There are so many positive reviews for Imperiums: Greek Wars. Reviews that talk about the various mechanics of the game, UI and AI pros and cons, and the passion of the game maker. Reviews that I read and that persuaded me to buy this wonderful game. I am not going to repeat all of those reasons, as, well, they have already been expressed accurately and thoroughly. Instead I will explain what I personally like compared to the other games that I play. I have over 800 hours in Civ 6, and…

I love the time period this game is set in and the wargame aspects like supply lines affecting the combat ability of your units. The option for mythological elements sounds awesome too. I really want to play this game but ended up refunding it for accessibility issues. If you have red-green color blindness make sure you really test the game within the refund period. Color deficiency depends on the person so it may be fine for you. The game uses red, yellow, and orange over a landscape of…

In short, the game is very black and white - it's either fun and easy, or a boring tedious grind. There's no happy middle ground, which exists in more carefully and comprehensively made strategy games. It's not particularly buggy, and the points at which this game diverges from most other 4x games are done well, fun and engaging, but it doesn't help basic enjoyment for the same reasons most other 4x games fail. Beyond the first few hours (10-16, depending how slow you play) going through major…

I like it when small indie devs manage to create a huge game despite their limited means, through clever design. This game features an interesting blend of Civilization-esque turn-based gameplay with the historically detailed complexity of grand strategy titles. The gameplay basics are easy enough to pick up on for anyone familiar with Civilization, but with several deeper mechanics to learn - yet without making the game feel bloated or too difficult on the easier settings. Where the game…

Great strategy game, something between Civilization type games and Paradox type Grand strategy games. - nice looking retro style graphics, but not pixel art which I`m personally getting allergic to (too many games using it when they could easily use higher-res but still hand-drawn 2D graphics making them much clearer and better looking) - interesting setting, I don`t remember any other strategy games exploring this timeframe - AI is on another level compared to often braindead AI in similar…

I have enjoyed playing this game a great deal. I continued on from the tutorial and have not finished my first game. But I'm 74 hours into the game. I have played just about everything out there that is grand strategy with all the various implementations of military tactics and degrees of tactical depth. The game is a gem. I'm understanding and learning more about it as I go. The economic element works well. Where there are mines it is relatively easy to figure out how to produce more stones…

This is as BIG game, with a steep learning curve. I am a huge fan of 4X strategy games, and this Imperiums is one of the best I've played in the past 25 years. While it lacks the real-time battle field tactics of Total War games, the development and training of your military forces is all important; compared with TW gmes, all battles can be said to be auto-resolved. When ascending the learning curve I had several questions about certain game mechanics; I posted these questions on the forum…

I don't usually review my games, but this one is worth making a point. As a Greek and a strategy games enthusiast, I was soon intrigued by Imperiums: Greek Wars. Then, as is customary, I started reading reviews particularly the negative ones. I was dissapointed. I read about crazy random events, an abysmal fighting system, overwhelming casualties, badly incorporated diplomacy and trading system, clanky controls, badly distinguishing colours etc. That was, unfortunately, enough for me to say…

THIS COULD NEGATE YOUR CHANCE FOR A REFUND IF YOU LEAVE IT UP AFTER TWO HOURS AND DON'T ENJOY THE GAME!!!!** For me, however, I do not regret getting this game and is well worth the purchase. Overall a solid 9/10 game for the price. If you enjoy 4X, especially ones with a little bit of grit, you'll enjoy this one. This game takes about an hour to understand, 4 hours to…

I've been playing PC Strategy games for more than 30 years and this game is in my Top Five all time. Granted it isn't the easiest game to understand and if you dislike having to read manuals (and more than once, because there's a LOT there) you won't be able to appreciate this game. If you absolutely can't/won't read the manuals, the developer is highly active on both Steam and Discord and is very good about explaining how things work in response to questions. It took me literally hours to get hooked on this game. I'm an avid gamer for 30+ years and counting and I especially love TBS games in all manners, yet, at the beginning I hated Imperiums. I even refunded once, then got back to by repurchasing. It's one of those slow-burning, hardcore strategies, which sadly went extinct lately and even I, myself got too well infused with the shallow strategy games lately. Which means that this game offers a hard landing if you give it a try and you expect a…

Enjoyable mid-difficult strategy game! Less than a paradox but more than a total war. Good for shorter gaming sessions/campaigns as it is more relaxing than either of those brands. Expansions really make it - waiting for the next before I dive back in. Solid game overall.

Did you ever wonder what Civilization would look like if you had realistic supply lines to support your armies? If your soldiers might starve if you overextended? Or if you needed to have enough Coal to support your peoples heating needs? Imperiums: Greek Wars may not be easy to grasp at first, but it grows on you immensly, just as your empire does - until you overextend (again), your people start starving and you're once again reminded that this is not Civilization. But it is everything you…

I'm not an expert or a programmer or anything, but having played 2 decades worth of strategy games I feel like I have a basis for comparison with other 4X out there. Got my smug face handed over by AIs in a medium difficulty after arrogantly telling myself that this game's standard difficulty and the combat was a joke. Wiped the first nation, conquered my starting continent, and told myself, "Well, that was easy." Sailed to a nearby continent and almost wiped the 2nd nation. However, the moment there was one city left, a 3rd nation that hated my guts without my realization (because we had a couple of trades early on) suddenly waged an all out war, decimated…

Yes, they are working on a patch, and, yes, they are very nice and will fix my save games for me if I send them via email, but that doesn't take away the frustration. Now the screen is frozen. And the era of Ancient Greece is a great bonus - I love this era so this is a big plus for me. Btw I wish people recognize and praise smaller devs like Kube Games. Was this game programmed in ancient Greece? The game has cute graphics that look retro. The special 4X lap system is exactly my taste and allows the player to lean back sometimes. The multitude of tribes and Greek Empires is enormous. But... there is also a lot of fiddling around to click your way through the news, trade and diplomacy system. The devs are very loving towards their community, and the community speaks highly of this game. This cute Game is making with love. Good gaming fun for…

Great 4X game, though has historical maps too. Seems simple at first but I was pleasantly surprised by the level of depth. Things I love: - AI does not cheat, ie doesn't get bonuses unless you specifically choose to give it to them. At start of the scenario you can increase their cunning without giving them extra production. - Resources matter, so you need to plan ahead and consider what you might be short of in 20 turns say. - Eg Slaves are a resource. So it you have too few slaves, the…

There are great games that are supported by a big marketing campaign, for example Red Dead Redemption or Civilisation 6. You will always take note of them. And there are game gems that are developed by small companies with talented folks, and you have to be lucky to find such games in the masses - say Dominions or Shadow Empire. Imperiums Greek War is a great game. It looks a bit like civilization. But than with more depth and in my opinion more fun to play. I like history and Imperiums is scratching that itch. Starting a war and win it is tough. You need the armies and loosing one really hurts. So you really need to plan ahead. You can also make coalitions against an opponent. This is a real neat. You can also randomize the map which is nice as you do not know the world. Reported bugs are solved really fast. I…

This game requires time and patience to understand and get into. But once there it is a hidden gem. I had lots of fun with it. I must have read the entire game manual and resorted to spread sheets to understand how the various multipliers work. For example the resource production multipliers seem to be multiplicative rather than additive, but multiplying all the in game modifiers shown to me does not equal the actual production of said resource. I noticed that the production was proportional…

UI is just horrible and not at all user friendly, game play does not flow, and while there are some interesting ideas they are not properly developed or thought out. Imperiums Greek Wars has that “one more turn” feels. His mechanics seem easy at first, but it has a learning curve, after a few turns you get a slap in the face which tells you “I’m not like your others strategy games!”. I caught the bug, quite skeptical at first, bought on sale. But I like supporting niche games, especially historical ones. -There's a real interplay between the Greek cities, spear stabs in the back can happen quickly, the side missions force the player to move their heroes around the map. - The game doesn't reinvent the wheel, but that's not what we're asking of it. I was looking for a historical civilization, centered around a real and dynamic map. However ! Its quite different than…

The game is a good improvement over Aggressors. My biggest frustration is Iron Man mode requires an active connection to the servers... and when the servers are running slow ending a turn can drag on again and again and again. This really is a wonderful game. I was looking for a turn based strategy game in the roman era to sink my teeth into and after looking at various games and their reviews I decided to go with this one. I'm not disappointed. The systems are so well put together. There are scenarios which by themselves could take up a ton of your time but I'm more of a sandbox type of guy and that has been my focus so far in the couple of weeks since I bought it. I love and appreciate the fact that there are all…

A solid and fun 4x game that's quite easy to learn but tough to master. I won in my first run of this game, although as my empire grew I found it increasingly difficult to sustain my big army. It was a very rewarding and interesting experience. My current playthrough is as the Spartans and on a higher difficulty, and I'm just scraping by. The game has 6-7 different difficulty options, and you can heavily customize the challenge to suit the experience you are seeking. A cool and unique thing is…

Awesome game and awesome dev. I struggled for a while to get the game running via proton on my Linux machine and the dev team/Pavel figured out the source of the text problem I was having, and fixed it for me in a beta branch the same day. Game itself feels like a solid replacement for Civ IV, it covers a much shorter timespan, but in much more depth and with an AI that actually bothers to compete (I like the mechanics of Civ V/VI, but the AI is so useless as to make it feel like you are the…

I mainly only play on random maps, but this game has a lot depth, really good and meaningful depth. There is a learning curve, but it is worth it and once you understand the economy you will feel like a real king trying to build an empire. If your willing to put a little time to get a real experience for this great 4x game, then this will give you hours and hours of fun and enjoyment.

One of my favourite games - a lot of depth and options, very broad scope and regular updates.
