A few kids try to keep him from the greedy scientists and help him back to his planet, but then a much less friendly being arrives through the beam... From TMDB

The penis puppet was vetoed by Marvel before filming, but not the sex scene.

After the film cratered, Lucas, deep in debt, sold off the CGI division of Lucasfilm to Steve Jobs. Where it was given a name change.

positive · AI labelView post →We genuinely don’t talk about Howard the Duck enough, or how that was the first Marvel film since the 40s.
neutral · AI labelView post →Look, I get some people are sad that Ed Gale (the actor in the Howard the Duck costume in the 1980s movie, as well as the actor who was sometimes Chucky in running scenes, etc) died... ... but he also got caught up in a child porn sting so honestly, fuckin' bye.
neutral · AI labelView post →oddly, this was not the only duck person sexuality George Lucas insisted on adding to the Howard the Duck film. Lucas also had Industrial Light and Magic give a duck puppet bolt-on tits for a nude bath scene. That did make it into the 1986 film, which somehow received a PG rating.
neutral · AI labelView post →the Howard the Duck movie happened because George Lucas is completely batshit & even by the late 80’s had successfully purged everyone in his life who was willing to tell him no.
neutral · AI labelView post →Really looking forward to Marvel introducing their new hero by having him punch Dilbert Stark in the junk at SpaceX mission control. Bonus points if they can work in Howard the Duck changing the Trumpenführer's diaper while KGB spycams film from behind the Oval Office light fittings.

neutral · AI labelView post →There was this movie called Howard the Duck about a cute duck guy, like a Muppet you know? So it's probably for kids. It's fine for our 19 year old to take our six year old to see it. I'm sure it won't scar him for life.

positive · AI labelView post →It’s fun to think about how “Howard the Duck” was the first Marvel movie
neutral · AI labelView post →1986's Howard the Duck is usually said to be the first Marvel Comics-based movie, but if you want to get technical about it, the first movie based on a Marvel-originated character (albeit one they didn't end up retaining the rights to in the long run) came out one year earlier.
neutral · AI labelView post →I used to love Howard the Duck as a kid and then I grew up letting you people gaslight me into thinking it was a bad movie. This shit is so good I don’t know what made y’all so afraid to admit it.

unlabelledView post →It is crazy to think that Howard the Duck (yes, the 1986 film) was a big part in the founding of Pixar. The failure of the movie forced George Lucas to sell off many of his assets, one of them being his computer graphics division. From that very division, Pixar was founded.

unlabelledView post →There are still people who *hate* this movie (Shadow Todd Nathanson). I am too infatuated with Lea Thompson to even call it the worst film of 1986. I'll take HOWARD THE DUCK over BLUE CITY any day. And I love the Cherry Bomb songs more than the Ellen Aim songs from STREETS OF FIRE. Dig my shirt! ❤️🦆

unlabelledView post →I genuinely believe a Howard the Duck MCU film could be great if they stayed true to the spirit and tone of Steve Gerber's original run. It's too bad the first film made the character synonymous with box office poison, that movie's Howard acts so differently it barely counts as an adaptation.
unlabelledView post →Dr. Bong never showed up in the Howard the Duck movie. imho you're not going to get a better example than that.
