60 of 354 · most liked firstTL;DR: A strange, atmospheric mix of idle/incremental progression, dungeon crawling, autobattler elements, and light puzzle mechanics. Not for everyone, but very enjoyable if you like slow-burn indie games with a dark mood. Horripilant is a small but surprisingly engaging game with a very specific identity. It combines incremental progression, resource gathering, combat, exploration, and a mysterious underground atmosphere into something that feels unusual in a good way. The strongest…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this based on the setting and theme. The art is cool, and the GUI is aesthetically pleasing. However, the animations are lacking, and boss enemies are just recolored regular enemies, which are both disappointing. There's also not a lot of enemy variety at this point. Look, another rat. Now a crow. A skeleton, you say? How daring. The game itself feels like a demo. It starts out way too slow, and hasn't introduced any interesting mechanics yet. It's the boilerplate incremental…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In case you were wondering, HORRIPILANT is a great game to grieve to. If you are in the absolutely soul-shattering position of having to mourn the loss of the love of your life and need a distraction or you'll scream and weep and never stop, I'm gonna go ahead and recommend this game to you. It will give you a nice alternative activity. A couple weeks before my husband's unexpected death a few months ago (in 2026), I told myself next payday, I'd get a Steam gift card and buy FORBIDDEN…

unlabelledView post →Disclaimer: I worked on the Polish translation for this game but did so for free and I bought the game with my own money. I spent many more hours playing a pre-release build while testing translations. Horripilant is a very nice twist on the incremental/clicker genre that mechanically doesn't stray too much from its roots while also aiming for something unique with its atmosphere. It's an engaging incremental with a fair bit of clicking if you'd rather wait less. The mood is very nice, in a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely yes, although only for a weird niche set of us - Horripilant isn't going to appeal to the masses. It's an idler, it's a clicker, it's a 'numbers-go-up' game, it's also a puzzler and an interesting philosophical wonder as well. I'm not usually one to get in to clicker games like this but the price was right and the aesthetic appealed to me. Having only played the Gnorp clicker game (which is a fun thing itself, gotta say), I kinda sorta knew what I was getting in to, but truly just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished the game and did all the achievements Liked the visuals, very original to me for an incremental/clicker game The game feeling is really good and I liked the puzzles a lot, especially the one closer to the end Very likable little game, not too much menus and stuffs but enough to make its price worth it in my opinion A few downsides though : - Not a true incremental game imo, your numbers does not go up that much compared to other incrementals games - A lot of clicking could be…

unlabelledView post →the best parts of this game were in the first few minutes of the demo... the game has great art and atmosphere, but it's hit HARD by being an incremental made in a post Nodebuster world (90% of the game feels like playing through the last half of Nodebuster again, if you've played that game). there is a massive amount of time spent doing filler runs for more prestige currency to spend on small, purely additive bonuses to progress. i think the kicker here is the number of floors (1000). it's a…

unlabelledView post →I hadn't played any incremental/clicker games until I happened to watch a stream and saw a demo gameplay. So I went and tried the demo myself. The game has a pleasant, addictive gameplay loop. I also liked the style and atmosphere. So I kept playing the demo, even though at the time you could only go up to the 9th floor. But you can keep playing, reborning, leveling up your skills, and boosting your stats. After that, I joined the Discord, because why not? What pleasantly surprised me was how…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Post platinum review All achievements time: 24 hrs Overall score: 8/10 This game is such a wasted potential! First 20 hrs seem to be perfect and then... then starts very boring endgame. Basically, endgame offers you nothing. There is zero incentive to push onwards. Also the balance is miserable. The upgrades of clicks, production and stats stop at very miserable point. You may use upgrades from a lovely gentleman for limited currency, Proposed changes: 1. After finish game unlock new…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is really boring but addictive in the same. I was initially attracted by the retro-horror style and was looking forward to some mystery/dungeoneering, but after a couple of hours I just found myself watching the same sword slash animation over and over, clicking buttons to watch numbers go up, and then resetting when enough numbers had gone up. I know that's the idle game genre in a nutshell, but I felt afterwards like I just wasted my time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the autoclicker jumpscare got me. ♥♥♥♥ you. Amazing game otherwise.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got it because it reminded me of Vermis. I usually do not go for clickers or dungeon crawlers of this type. This one aboslutely got me. The athmosphere is very very good and I love the artstyle.

unlabelledView post →There is a lot to like about this game. The art is great, the puzzles are fun, and it is pretty easy to just let run in the background. The problem is that most of the game is on the incremental management portion which is incredibly generic and not at all interesting. It felt like a chore I needed to maintain and wait for to get to the next fun puzzle and it stopped being worth it towards the end. If the game were $4, I could excuse it, but I was expecting more for $8.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wouldn't recommend this unless you're starved for incremental games. It's so incredibly grindy with so few actual progression systems that you'd be much better off searching elsewhere. Take a look at the gif the developers used on the steam page of the dungeon combat. Those circles the dev clicks amount to one extra attack... in a run where the dev is attacking at a rate of 10 attacks per second. This redundancy permeates the entire game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm absolutely not a fan of idle AND clicker games but something with Horripilant got me hooked. The simple premise of big numbers go big is complimented by an exceptional atmosphere and just the right amount of storytelling/puzzles to keep me going and coming back for more. It's absolutely unique and a recommended buy especially at this price point for the amount of time you'll sink into it.

unlabelledView post →Its setting and theme is 8/10 dark & gritty. However the game could maybe use some more diversity in the early game. Just rats, birds and skeletons aren't too spooky...other than that the game really does have some great art and simple but good sound design. the gameplay for an incremental game is 5/10 so far the loop is pretty much as basic as it gets. more in depth than say cookie clicker because you have a combat system but not as in depth as other games like Melvor that also have crafting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game for ill, mentally unstable, shizo persons. A 10/10 incremental game, like none other. Aside the incremental part it offers a good story with puzzle elements. Really interesting and well made. A true hiddem gem which may look weird on the screenshots on Steam. Dont sleep on it

unlabelledView post →This is no Berry Bury Berry. There is no passive upgrade on respawn. The meta progression is glacial, the upgrades that should speed it up are not exponential, this alone inflates the game length by an absurd amount. I feel compelled to finish it and see whatever is going on with the plot, but be aware. Graphics and sound design are a highlight, but you will unfortunately be seeing this for hours on end before the next big thing happens From what I see of the developers post history, they…

The last two idlers I've invested a considerable amount of time in are Fishing The Abyss and Rusty's Retirement; make of that however you will. For another, idlers always strike me as "set-and-leave" types of games. You set it up and then open another game to play, while occasionally coming back to check the number. This "gameplay loop"…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I realized that I'm not into the idler genre as a whole but this is the best one I've tried yet. It instantly stands out among others with its grotesque visuals.

unlabelledView post →Fresh and original take on the incremental genre. Reminds me of point and click horror games I used to play on Newgrounds. The last act of this game is pretty incredible and uses so many ideas I have rarely, if ever, seen in this genre of game. Absolutely loved it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great spin on the Idle games genre. Starts out like a normal idle/clicker game but soon you discover that there is more to it then that. Puzzles are well made with only one taking me a bit more time to figure out. Do yourself a favour and don't spoil any of the puzzles for yourself. If you are even a bit interested in this game just buy it, it's worth it's price. Took me around 21 hours to 100% the game. 9.5/10 when it comes to incremental games.

unlabelledView post →An excellent incremental game where the progression feels incredibly smooth and the active gameplay elements work flawlessly. The integration of escape room puzzles to progress the plot and expand the power system works brilliantly, all wrapped in a unique art style that builds a fantastic atmosphere. TLDR: Highly recommended for any incremental fan.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's OK, but I really wish that it was just an RPG dungeon crawler with some point and click elements, instead of an Idle game. The Idle elements in this game are so lackluster, that they make it really hard to enjoy this game. The rebirth points are gained linearly, while cost of things is scaled exponentially, so there's literally no reward for taking longer than 10 minutes per rebirth, where you just stop in the dungeon when it takes more than couple of hits per enemy. The rewards in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, but it feels very unbalanced and short. I didn't enjoy that more than half the bestiary goes unappreciated because the fights are going by so fast that you barely see their art let alone experience what's different about fighting those monsters. Items, pets, and half the perks went pretty much ignored. None of the puzzles really grabbed me besides getting confused with the spider. All in all, I really wanted some aspect of the writing or mechanics to hook me…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll start with the famous MST3K guidance of "it's just a , you should really just relax." Don't concern yourself with the exact how of your carting thousands, millions, and billions of resources around, nor how, exactly, you're hiring dungeon minions to mine for you. If you can do that, what you're left with is a nice little purgatory simulator in idler/puzzle game clothing. Delve the dungeon, get stronger, acquire items to let you past the chain of puzzles that, eventually, will let you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A deeply textural experience. Engaging with its grotty, gruesome puzzle walls and breathless cast of characters feels like swimming through a languorous, erotic fever-dream. Turning ones back to that to become a sort of swordstrike gatling gun seeking to kill their own god-in-a-pit in through incremental auto-battling is a hypnotic blasphemy, and an exercise in destroying genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The atmosphere alone makes this game nearly perfect. If you're into incremental/idler games, it's a phenomenal pick.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of those games where I wish I could give a neutral review. It is definitely more of an IDLE game than an incremental game. You aren't gonna finish this in one sitting like you can with most games like it. Unfortunately, for me the gameplay loop is too repetitive and progression too slow for me to be willing to commit to it. The gameplay consists of two parts: a shop/resource gathering portion and a combat portion. You gain resources by purchasing automated upgrades a la cookie clicker,…

unlabelledView post →Mid at best, terrible at worst. The horror point-and-click stuff does present some intrigue, but the incremental gameplay is borderline nonsensical, like it was just some AI output. The depth is paper thin, you basically just pump two stats and tediously grind dungeon floors to make those stats bigger for several hours. If the entire incremental part of the game was removed, it would be a mediocre point-and-click adventure horror game. With it, it's genuinely just a waste of your time.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visuals are impressive, took a page ,maybe literally out of Vermis. Hope to see more from these fellows
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short idler with a mixture of horror theme and puzzles, some of which require you to think a little out of the box. For me, progression steadily accelerated towards the end of the story, so the game didn't end up feeling like a slog and didn't held the story itself hostage. Overall, pretty fun.

unlabelledView post →I'm kind of split on the game. It's borderline for me whether to say I'd recommend it or not. I think around the $5 price point it's a fine experience for say 10 to 15 hours if you like clicker/idler games and the overall art style/vibe (which ties in more with the small point and click adventure portion). (Actual playtime is way shorter than my listed amount - left the game on a few times forgetting to log out when setting up a late night farm run.) The idler/clicker portion is very…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Damn, what a game. Not for everyone and not without flaw, but without a doubt a work of passion. Along with a nice showcase on how dithering can be used as art style to make great visual and ambiance. Enjoyed my time playing this game.

unlabelledView post →Highly, highly recommended if you enjoy a good idler and if the visuals of the game jump out to you at all (as they did for me!) The style never got lost on me, as you progress through the game you encounter new enemies and complete puzzles hidden around the world you find yourself in, in turn meeting more creepy characters to aid your journey. It took me 42~ hours to complete the game, a couple hours of that was just literally idle time grinding out a dungeon floor repeatedly and harvesting…
