I experienced this as well, but this issue is now fixed. I hope this is helpful for anyone interested in getting it, but skeptical because of the recent negative reviews. It's a really neat tool for planning out your dream home, or just for playing around.

Demo houses no longer load, menus fail to properly display (with infinite menus), and the main screen is completely black. This application is defunct and is clearly no longer being supported by the developers. This game is abandoned. Other recent reviews also mention the black screen and infinite menus. Don't waste your money.

You have to figure out everything on your own, what isn't too difficult. You have the option to change between 3D and 2D. In 2D you see the blueprint and you can change positions, costumizing you should do in 3D mode because its easier. All together a good Simulation. Could also help a real interior designer, I think, to get used to 2D blueprints etc.
