Metroidvanias are either Protestant or Catholic. Castlevania? Catholic, of course. Metroid? Protestant. Blasphemous is Catholic. Dead Cells, Protestant. Hollow Knight is Protestant, but Hollow Knight: Silksong is Catholic. That's why people are complaining the game is hard. Cause it's Catholic now.

I’ve tried, I really, really, REALLY tried. I loved Hollow Knight so much I really wanted to make it through this game but I can’t. Act 1 I had a lot of fun but Act 2 just left me miserable and EXHAUSTED. In Hollow Knight I had times where I would need to take a break but with Silksong that does not help at all with reinvigorating me to continue playing. Sure, the boss fights are more difficult, but defeating them is at least fun. The problem is that there are miserable platforming challenges…

There's an argument to be made that games don't have to be fun to be good. If I were inclined to make that argument, Silksong would be at the center of it. It's a mechanically polished experience with a great presentation, and a decent, if standard, Souls-like story. It's got a large expansive world -- one of the largest in any Metroidvania. There are moments, where the gameplay is sublime. If you like Souls-likes, difficult games and precision platformers, then this is for you. It used to be…

Silksong does what Hollow Knight did well way better, and some things it did badly worse. Positives: • Fantastic art design on just about everything, far more varied than Hollow Knight and full of little details. • Very satisfying and varied platforming. While there isn't a full on White Palace/ Path of Pain section, similarly challenging platforming bursts are weaved throughout the game. • The crests, Silk skills and tools offer great gameplay variety. • Very well designed world packed with…

Wow. I sucked at this, so much so that it took me over 300 hours to get the True Ending. Would I have liked certain things to be easier, sure, but ultimately the game is so amazing that I just kept trying and trying because I so badly wanted to carry on playing. There is no way difficulty on this game would make me want to leave a negative review. People leaving negative reviews because bosses took 10 tries, I wish, most took me 50-100 tries. I’ve played hundreds of games in my life, and Silksong is only the 16th I’d confidently rate a 10/10 masterpiece. One of the others is the original Hollow Knight, which, in 2023, gripped me like no other piece of media ever had. That experience made me one of the many who spam-refreshed the Steam page on Silksong’s release day. I mention this to be upfront: I went in wanting and expecting to love this game… and I absolutely did. It’s now my favorite game of all time. Normally, I write reviews…

Even when the road appears to climb toward the peak, its true destination lies buried deep within the mountain’s darkness After I got the platinum in Hollow Knight, I was waiting for the sequel. And I’m going to say it straight: it was 10/10 experience. Not because I’m trying to be dramatic, but because this game didn’t just meet my expectations – it blew past em and gave me one of the strongest gaming experiences I’ve had. A Great (But Flawed) Masterpiece After finishing one of the endings, then the true ending, and defeating Lost Lace multiple times, I think I can finally put my thoughts into words. Let me start with the obvious: Silksong is an excellent game. I spent dozens of hours exploring Pharloom, fighting bosses, uncovering secrets, and pushing through some extremely demanding encounters. Team Cherry once again delivered a huge, ambitious metroidvania that will probably remain a reference for years. But…

If this game consisted of just the flea juggle mini-game and the OSTs it will still be peak and worth the price. Instead they gave us bonus content like the breathtaking Bilewater area and memorable characters with so much depth like Grindle. Absolute cinema, can't wait for the dlcs.

I loved the original Hollow Knight, and this game is a step up in many aspects. It’s very polished and well made, but unfortunately it’s not for me. For the first time in a long while, I feel worse after a gaming session than when I started playing. I came in with positive impressions and really tried to like it, but I ended up feeling miserable after each session. There were too few “omg I did it!” moments and too many “whew, I’m glad that’s over with” moments. Too many gauntlet fights and…

So the first Hollow Knight is probably one of my all time favorites. Beautiful ambiance, beautiful storytelling, both in lore and visuals, and the gameplay was a perfect balance between challenging and 'peaceful' exploration. The game could be hard, but it felt balanced and never too much. Music was phenomenal. This game, I don't know... I really want to like it, but over 30 hours in, I just can't say I do. The story-telling is ok, except it lacks the depth and inspiration of the first…

I do sort of like this game but with this title Team Cherry has confused "hard" with "tedious". There are definitely fun moments in this game but sometimes it can be a real slog. Normal enemies take too many hits to kill to the point where you almost wonder if it's done to pad the length of the game, the combat flow is just plain worse than the original imo. There are also several jumping puzzles where you get reset a long way back if you take damage, this again is more tedious than hard and…

This game is Art - and like all Art, it's not for everybody. Team Cherry has created an uncompromising masterpiece aimed at players who've delved deep into Hollow Knight and enjoyed mastering its combat. These players will likely adore Silksong; the skill ceiling and combat depth are way higher now, both regarding Hornet's moveset and enemy difficulty and complexity. Hornet handles like a dream and requires a higher degree of mastery to keep up with all but the most basic of enemies. This is…

The real GOTY Modern games' sequels are usually bad news, as they are more often than not just a cheap cashgrab that butchers the original, but Silksong is the exact opposite, improving upon it's predecessor in almost every way. You can clearly tell this game was made with a purpose different than just making money. Same with Hollow Knight, it's already very clear what makes this game so good, so i'll keep it short. Probably the only complaint i've heard people say is that the combat is too…

A phenomenal follow-up on the original game, with an amazing soundtrack, visuals, and gameplay. It felt different enough from the first game to set itself apart, while retaining much of what I loved from the original. I unironically think Silksong is one of the best games of the decade. The attention to detail, combat and movement system, the visuals, and the music. Really can’t recommend this game enough. To me, it's a huge step forward in all aspects compared to original HK, especially in terms of how the game looks. While it has some flaws, some of which are pretty subjective (like wishes or double damage in some cases, or pretty much a matter of preference), the one that really stood out to me:…
