This is East Germany's first folktale adaptation and its first film in colour, a really macabre story of greed filled with weird and beautiful imagery. A blast to produce, with amazing art by @carlydraws.bsky.social and great expert contributions.
unlabelledView post →Film watching today. Has anyone seen any of the DEFA made (then) East German folk tale films? “Heart of Stone” is so beautifully shot. A Faustian tale set in the Black Forest. The film used Agfacolor film stock, an early German color process. Kinda reminded me of looking through an early ViewMaster.
unlabelledView post →Just got my hands on Heart of Stone (1950), the first East German film shot in colour. It's a grand fairy tale from Paul Verhoeven (not that one, the German one) given the deluxe treatment on Blu-ray by Eureka / Masters of Cinema under the watchful eye of producer @craigimann.bsky.social.

unlabelledView post →Someday someone at Netflix will see an actual movie and they will feel so stupid about what they've been spending their money on. I wrote about Fake Movies and Heart of Stone: https://www.pastemagazine.com/movies/netflix/heart-of-stone-review

unlabelledView post →Heart of Stone, the first East German folktale film, has hit the low stock page on the Eureka site. This is by far my favourite single title I have produced, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s macabre and beautiful and plays like a socialist Powell and Pressburger: eurekavideo.co.uk/movie/heart-...

unlabelledView post →For this to be wondrous you have to understand that my dad's taste in film is *bizarre*. This is a man who will wax poetic about Jaws and Hitchcock and recommend you cult classics and then ask you if you want to watch Heart of Stone on Netflix. I can never tell what he will or will not like.

It was released as the album's #leadSingle in June 1989, by #GeffenRecords. The song was written specifically for Cher by #DianeWarren, who produced it in collaboration with Guy Roche. Cher was unmoved by a #demo of the song sung by Warren, but Roche insisted she record it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9n3A_-HRFfc

unlabelledView post →One year ago we hang glided into action with Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan to decode their big-budget Netflix spy action film HEART OF STONE! But is it a film worth checking out? Find out now: pod.fo/e/21cbb5
unlabelledView post →Heart of Stone is your generic spy movie. The only moment worth nothing is when one of the characters mentions that they are going to Lisbon to eat TAPAS. Tapas, Carl! In Lisbon... You know the city in Portugal, that "famous" Spanish province...🤦
unlabelledView post →I arrived at the main house after eating just as everyone in it is leaving to eat, so now I’m alone and putting on Heart of Stone to boost its numbers (it’s a Skydance movie you see)

unlabelledView post →I watched the whole movie, forgetting to tweet about it, because Heart of Stone was a very good movie. Absolutely banger action film. The twists and turns make SENSE, because this movie is written by Greg Rucka, who will NOT fuck up a plot, not on his watch. Solid acting, GREAT fight choreo/stunts.
unlabelledView post →It’s been a long time since I read a sentence that tells me about a movie as much as @scotttobias.bsky.social writing “And so here we have Heart of Stone, which is basically Hydrox Cookies Presents Mission: Impossible.”

unlabelledView post →I'm a little over a quarter of the way in, but I'm liking it a LOT. It has a vibe that reminds me somewhat of Greg Rucka's Heart of Stone on Netflix, but with very badass older ladies, which is basically the movie I've been dying for for years.
unlabelledView post →Not at all surprising to see Netflix drop Scott Stuber as head of their film division. He thought it was worth paying a collective $550m to make Red Notice, The Grey Man and Heart of Stone.
unlabelledView post →It's a special kind of frustrating to see a film ruin every action scene by going on way too long. My ★★ review of Heart of Stone (2023) on @letterboxd.social:

unlabelledView post →I also watched that Heart of Stone film on Netflix last week. I was fine with the ridiculous setup and outrageously implausible stunts, but the film lost me in the middle when the gang were sat having a post-action meal in a traditional English chippy, but all drinking bottles of beer. As if.

unlabelledView post →I keep seeing TV spots for Heart of Stone post-release but no, it's not giving me any reason for revisiting a film that couldn't keep my attention. Would I have fared better watching it in a theater? I don't know. I really don't know.
unlabelledView post →HEART OF STONE, a movie I watched in 20 min increments over the course of a week while drinking a few beers each night.
unlabelledView post →Watched Heart of Stone. It’s a fun movie, but I think it revealed its big twist too early in the story. By doing so, it removed the ‘intrigue’ part of the spy thriller and the rest of the plot played out in a predictable manner. Great cinematography and action sequences, though!
unlabelledView post →Heart of Stone is the new most boring film ever until Netflix decides to release their next most boring film ever, I’m sure it will be real soon.
unlabelledView post →“Heart of Stone”, Netflix’s attempt at a Mission: Impossible-style action movie was a waste of film stock. I like action movies, even mindless shoot-em-ups, but this was like a dumb guy’s idea of a smart spy movie, and it failed in all directions.
unlabelledView post →Watched The Deepest Breath on Netflix last night. A gripping and beautifully shot documentary. Watched Heart Of Stone on Netflix tonight. A gormless and shambolic attempt at an action film. Swings & roundabouts, eh?
