60 of 196 · most liked firstThe Premise This review contains no spoilers. HammerHelm (HH) is a third-person adventure game with RPG and town management elements. Players take on the role of an exiled dwarf, that thinks their people people lived underground for too long, and need to establish cities on the surface as well. Starting out from scratch, they'll have to build a functional city, while facing supply problems, logistical issues and even enemy invasions. Quick Sum-Up 🟩 The Pros 🟥 The Cons 1. Satisfying and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was hoping this game was going to be my next time sink, but it's not. I think the Dev is doing a great job with the graphics and scenery. It is beautiful! I love the idea of being a citizen in a city builder, but the biggest let-down so far for me is the content. I feel that is the most important aspect of any game and this game in it's current state is severely lacking. The quests repeat way too often and I don't like doing them over and over again; they are too simple and that's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What niche RPGs are you particularly fond of? Can be a newer game or an older RPG that never became a cult classic.. Let's exclude BG3, Witcher and well known classics like FO1/FO2, Ultima and so on. Here is my list: [HammerHelm](https://store.steampowered.com/app/664000/HammerHelm/) - This is an RPG and first person city-builder hybrid. Pretty unique combination, the city-building complements the RPG elements by allowing you to develop your character and deal with world events. Story…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me start our just stating off with the fact that I love Hammerhelm. I played this game for 10 Hours straight last night and didn't even realize that it was morning until my wive's alarm went off. It engrossed me that much. I honestly can't recall the last time a game really and truly made me loose track of time that badly before. I mean sometimes I will lose a few hours, but not 10. I decided to play Hammerhelm on the Steam Deck as it is green verified, so this review will only be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →City of dwarfs But unusual. It is on the surface. STORY In fact, the dwarfs lived in an underground city, but supplies began to run out there and they had to go to the surface. Now the new settlement will be here. GAMEPLAY The gameplay features city building simulation combined with big world exploration. There is just a huge number of types of resources to collect and craft. Little by little we are rebuilding our settlement. It all starts with a warehouse and a couple of houses, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I have played this game for 10 hours, here is what I can tell you. (take not this is an indie alpha, but also it has core issues. If you casually play games, this will not matter to you). I would not be this harsh normally, but this game plays like a 5 dollar game or a free game. Charging this much for a game this early is not right. 1. This game does not like to be played any way other than the way it is designed. So what do I mean about this? Well frankly, the game hates it when you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this expecting something engaging, but only for a couple of hours. The novelty of being city-building RPG wore off the moment I realized the game is a series of basic kill quests and fetch quests with no real mechanics you could enjoy. Building the city is pointless. And if building the city is pointless, then the chores and quests you do for your city is pointless. And if these chores and quests are pointless, then there is no motive to play the game. Now the game claims adventure…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hammerhelm is potentially a game I could love. We control a dwarf and build a dwarven settlement in it, and that already makes me willing to forgive a lot. On top of that, it's a simple RPG with elements of a strategy game and a city builder, which means basically I should be more than happy. And yet I can't give it a positive review, despite my sincere intentions. I played the dozen or so hours because I just wanted to complete the achievements, but I can't say it was a lot of fun. And yes, I…

Two I can fix if i'm alod to build but low moral with no way to fix it means I can't. The frist one I ran out of beer, cloths and than meals so I couldn't build the buildings that could fix those. I had just save everyone from orc slave mines but did any of them chage there moods nope. Secont one same as the frist only this time I ran out of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →look i love a good sandbox game or a good dungeon crawler game or a good town builder game. This a blatent cash grab. it is dissapointing and does the minimum with all of those game designs. i love when a game does anything new even its combing two types of games that were well done. but like i said they did the minimum effort.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting concept and decent art style. Could be a really engaging game but it is pretty void of content and replayability. I feel like if there were different start characters who had different traits could add a bit of depth. The dungeon delving and combat could use some more fleshing out as well.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is clunky, pretty ugly, and spoonfeeds "content" like a free mobile game with no thought and barely any effort required. Not my thing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too much forced quest content - Not enough sandbox
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After two hours of playing I got somehow flung up during house upgrades and ended up on a roof of a house. You'd think you could just jump back down the roof, but no, the game doesn't let you. Saving and loading the game doesn't help, still on the roof. So I thought, ok, let's just move the house I'm standing on somewhere else, so that I fall to the ground. Nope. After I moved it I got flung so fast I flew off the island, and after a minute of continued flight, I wasn't even above the ocean, I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All I can say is disappointing. Its a pretty game and the concept is good, but its too small. The map is tiny and quests are too simplistic and repetitive. Caves are the same small layout and combat is just *hit*dodge*hit*dodge*. The town building also seems very linear so, taken in conjunction with the fixed tiny map, doesnt hold much promise for replayability either.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like casual base building and lite questing than you can't go to far wrong with this game. bright colorful graphics, intuitive and easy to understand base building, quests pop up on a regular basis. always something to do. Any game that can keep my attention for over 40 hrs is a game that I consider worth buying. Also, if you encounter any problems the dev is very responsive and helpful in fixing them.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game about a colony of superterranean Dwarves-In-Name-Only is definitely more cozy than complex. It has a little fetching, fighting, and foraging. Then it has more of the same. If you don't mind repetitive tasks, or if you're good with doing the same handful of things repeatedly, you might enjoy sinking some time into this. Trigger warning:No "rock and stone"
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very basic game that has very little depth to any of the systems and it gets repetitive quickly. I also encountered a bug that prevented me from progressing the main story and was unable to find a solution for.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You gotta love fetch quests and running around.. That's like 80% of what this game is about.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hammerhelm is a city builder, with RPG elements, and interwoven progression tiers. One element that I found unique, and also enjoyed: Your citizens become a ready supply of radiant quests. Basically, you build your own quest hub, which delivers quests that are (mostly) relevant to building your town, or protecting your citizens. Another unique element: RPG skill progression tiers (where you can allocate your skill points) are directly tied to how many houses you've built in your town. This is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been playing this since released last week from early access. This was coded by one developer who has been very helpful and friendly in the Steam chat and Discord chats. He fixed bugs and added stuff over the weekend as fast as they were put up. I have seen him fix a bug and fix a players save file all within a very short time. The game is a rather addicting little Town management game where you are the leader. You have to build up the town and keep your dwarven family feed,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave this a try and really wanted to like the game. It is hard to describe what I thought of the game, but it was negative. 1. Like the camera, how it movies behind the player up/down was very irritating. 2. The combat was really bad. I don't like that you lock onto one monster and have to press buttons to change targets or unlock target. That mechanic feels like the mechanic used in low quality phone games. I don't need the game to aim for me. 3. The line between the tutorial and actual…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →City Building and Third-Person Adventure mixed? Yep it works. A little wonky with some controls, but overall they've done a great job. It's a nice little indie game that has a lot of charm and will give a lot of fun and adventure for $15. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I adore this game and consider it a bit of a hidden gem. The gameplay is simple but there's charming elements. The good: - Building up your dwarf town is fun and rewarding - Mechanics like "[Villager had a bad day]" and the player getting to cheer them up are fun to interact with - You fricking go and invade an orc island in the funniest way possible - It's one of those games that you develop your own "itch" for that nothing else can scratch and the reason I'm writing this review right now…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grab it on sale to support indie devs who are active in their communities.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you can't afford better games than its a good deal. The game just gets repetitive and the combat is very old school. The dungeons have little charm and the city management really does not matter what you do.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL/DR: BUY IT! II personally got a solid 25 hours out of Hammerhelm and loved it. It's Charming, lighthearted and not too lore heavy (there is lore but it's not the focus of the game) The game has a little bit of everything; - Combat - City Building - Crafting - Exploration (Limited but the world is beautiful) - Unique Quests (Once off quests which tell a story) - Repeatable Quests (Used to obtain resources and upgrades for your town) - A progression system both through crafting and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Part city planner, part RPG adventure. Do the quests and defeat the monsters, but also gather resources, construct buildings and keep your townsfolk happy. Definitely a genre blend that works well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBrEjxbBGyo
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On EA since 2017, on my wishlist since 2018. I regret buying this game.. List of "Pros" is very small, so I'll just list the Cons. CONS: Terrible character movement. You are basically skating around the world and don't feel connected to the terrain. Awful jumping. Why is it even in-game? You try running and jumping, your character stops mid-air to do some mor*onic dance. You sprint and jump, the character suddenly stops mid-air to do the dance. AWFUL combat. Do you enjoy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one the few games I have ever gotten all the achievements and I quite enjoy doing it. It's a cross between a Towns Building game and a RPG and I loved every moment of it. It's quite unique and fresh I oddly enough had some RuneScape 3 Vibes (Art Wise) that I enjoyed a lot. I can't wait to see what other content comes out for this game in the future I had a really awesome blast and the developer was really quick to fix any issues you reported as well. If you get the game make sure you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoying this one quite a lot on the Steam Deck, but not exactly stable framerate unless you lock it to 30hz. An easy and laid back game that does not require too much focus or attention. It can get a tiny bit repetitive as most of the fun comes from expanding and managing your town. Gathering the necessary resources is the "thrill" so once you get the hang of how to harvest resources efficiently, you no longer feel stuck with progression. While not everything may be clear and simple at first,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has janky movement, bad combat but i like the idea of building a town in this manner, it seems to have a decent amount of content for the sale price but fairly limited amount of mobs. the building seems to be the main aspect of the game, i enjoy the game so far, but would love some combat or movement update, though i doubt they are still working on the game. it has a very city builder management type of feel, hopefully it won't be too annoying to feed the towns people, so far so good,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks like RAIL scenario click&see game. Not open world, not creativity... I have 360 gold, i build 1 stock building and game say to me: You can build 3 stock. But i can't, Money = 360, but in build menu price for this building 100 gold and have RED color. And i can't return my money from Steam - i play ... try to play and solve quests too much time before i see this alogical thing. :( Rail scenario, not have free choise, just click&see. :(
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its just okay; i would give it a neutral review if i could but since it kept my attention enough to get the achievements, i'll recommend it on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game feel like a mix of Old Runescape and Rimworld. You do simple quest while managing your village. This game as sooo much potential but still feel like a concept at this moment... I wish the devs continue the development because this could be the first in a trend, every fantasy colony sim fan wishes for this game but it need to be more and fully embrace what it is trying to be. The gameplay is nice but because repetitive after 5-7hrs of gameplay, a way to increase replay-ability would…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun, very cute. If you're looking for something simple, that does simple fairly well, this is it. There is nothing mind-blowing about this game, there is also nothing that's truly disappointing about it either. If I have to give notes: -The first moments of your game might seem overwhelming with all of the icons around your screen, but they all explain themselves as the game goes. Ergo, just roll with it, trust. -I finished content in under 15 hours playtime; I was hungry for much…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the idea of this game, but I just couldn't do the combat. It feels really clunky.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The dev is one of the most responsive devs I've ever seen. Not only does he constantly solicit recommendations from the players, but he issues new patches several times a week. I experienced a few bugs and he had me send my save to him for fixing and sent it back. The next patch included fixes for the bugs I experienced.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Relaxing blend of Minecraft and a simple RPG.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fun and well worth the $15. I hope this Developer makes a lot of money from this game. He responds very quickly to user input sometimes there two updates a day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy this game. It has a mix of a lot of things that I like from other games. The combat gets a little stuck sometimes but it is still a pretty fun game. I like the pace. I would like to see a mp or co-op in the future but no rush. This game is a great way to unwind.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game is fun, but way to buggy roads keep despawning / houses lose water, sewers and so on.... / keybinds stop working all the time > save and quit to fix / cant progress mainstory > need to talk to npc who despawned edit: dev actually fixed the bugs after i send my savefile > seems to work fine now > worth playing now. I´ll keep looking for other bugs tho.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →lot's of fetch quest's. fighting is simple. keeping the people happy is what this one is about. good time burner. no bugs that i seen.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To many bugs. Game is far from ready for public gameplay. Combat is clunky and poorly done.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Go there, do that, kill that, build that there. Get a refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, if HammerHelm had a few more months of enrichment and polish, it would be a pretty solid game. Better lighting, more complex dungeons, an overhaul of the dog-diarrhea UI, and more content to explore and interact with would make this an above average experience. I was able to push about 4 hours of enjoyment, but as other reviews mention: it quickly tapers from being enjoyable to a slow pointless grind. You've pretty much seen and done everything interesting by the time you start…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A simple game, honestly crude but provides just enough adventure to make it fun. Combat is floaty and laggy, but once you learn the mechanic it is easy. Your character moves faster than the enemies, so you can use terrain and different strategies without being constantly pressured by aggro. You can block and evade, combat is the typical lazy programming with 1-2-3 action swings that lock out your controls during the attack animations. Base building is just ok. It's like a mini-city…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall: 6.5/10 Nice game for 12-15hrs. Simple mechanics and combat. Became repeatable rather fast. Got trading cards and achievements - "added value" increases rating. Building town is nice. NPCs sometimes gliches at movement/location but restarting game usually fixes it. Could be better control responsibility, combats sometimes happens to be sluggish and messed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a boot leg colony sim, I was quite pleased with several features from this one. I wish I could take a pawn from rimworld and play it in first person like this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only have a few hours into the game but I have learned enough to know I like it very much !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isnt a game. Its at best a program on your cpu that takes your money. You do nothing in it, theres nothing in it to do. he game should be calledd the cleverly disguised nothing is in this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not as in depth as other village builders but it's relaxing and a chill game I'm enjoying it. Dev is still active and responded to a bug issue i had on discussions.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended for the fun city building aspects. Lost of fun things to do here. I really like the ideas and how it's all put together. Not recommended for the boring combat. There's a lot of combat and it's just not that exciting for me. For what they're going for and how much combat actually ends up being in it, you spend a lot of time running back and forth fighting monsters and it's not that exciting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun game that balances colony building, character upgrading and general quests very well. Simple yet extensive in it's own way. Enjoyable and challenging in a simple way. Another very positive thing is that the developer answers and fixes any problems I ran into promptly. I recommend this as a relaxing yet involved building game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hammerhelm is a first person building game that allows a player to develop a plot of land into a thriving village. That is the heart of the game and it does that in an interesting fashion. It is important to note that the game seems to be a labor of love by a one-man development team so there is a lot of areas where improvements could be made - but what we have is fun indie game that can occupy your time for a few days.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My journey to find a good 1st person Rimlike continues.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs a lot more dev time and polishing, Quests are repetitive and combat is too, Its fun and I think with some bug fixes, polishing and maybe a quest overhall it could be amazing. As far as I can tell not much replay value but that could be solved with some updates if the devs still care. Overall I recommend buying if it is on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isn't a horrible game but its a bit buggy. I actually thought this was an early access game until I came to give this review. The mobs constantly are getting caught on things (usually one another) and get stuck running in place. Then when you hit them it seems to unstick them because they start swinging. When you back away, you see they are still stuck but they can magically melee hit you from a mile away. The gameplay seems pretty basic. I thought it would be a little more in depth.…
