58 of 58 · most liked firstI've deleted my old review as I needed space for this updated review. This is my second edit of this review. I've tried the update and, unfortunately, my opinions on the game are generally the same as before. I have a few things to clarify and add, but, it's still a game I wouldn't recommend anyone purchase. Not even on sale. If you want a rhythm shooter, play Robobeat for the easiest custom music options available and speed, Metal Hellsinger for the best progression and hardest music, and BPM…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Huge disappointment. The demo was incredible, you had to race through levels and clear enemies as you progress. The shooting matched the music really well in the demo. The full game has removed everything that made the demo great. It is now an arena shooter with 4 or 5 stages and the music doesn't even match the gun shooting anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It genuinely feels like a nerf from the experience I had in the demo...Maybe cause there's only one checkpoint level at launch unless I'm not seeing something...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has no substance, soundtrack kinda sucks, and overall not fun to play. I have played through every song (there are 10) I have played through every level (there are 4 in total, 3 arena and 1 checkpoint?). My playtime is so short because there is nothing in this game. There are three different characters with all different specials, two of which are useless but you cant pick the character with the only useful special. NO. You get no choice. Each character can be played on certain…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is underwhelming, there's only 10 songs and 6 levels. Now 10 songs would've been alright had they all been of the same quality which in this case it isn't. Same with the maps, some are better than others. There's also a lack of song preview so you have to go through trial and error to get a feel for the song. Had there been a campaign style level select with a song made for that map it would've been better, since some songs are more difficult than others and will make or break a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Half-baked and clearly unfinished
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Today’s Black Video Game Character: Aero (GUN JAM)
unlabelledView post →The gameplay demo for this was so misleading. The entire concept of linear missions (which is the only thing the demo consisted of btw and was marketing itself on) is basically gone from the game and replaced with only single room arenas. The beatmaps feel sluggish with tons of blank space that wasn't even there in the demo version of the tracks that leaves you basically unable to play the game until you can fire your gun again. Also for some reason you don't even need to time the gun play to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do love me some Rhythm games, but I’m not the best at FPS’s, so any time I can combine the two together and use my love for rhythm to help combat my slowly deteriorating hand-eye coordination, I’m all for it. Rhythm FPS’s have been cropping up at a higher rate in recent years with the likes of BPM and Metal: Hellsinger gracing PCs so seeing studios’ iterations of the genre is just more music to my ears. After seeing Gun Jam put out solid ideas and presentation through its demo, its 1.0…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →sadly i cannot recommend this game. level design is strange, obstacles are always in the way whenever you want to shoot something you have to fly jump around while trying to hit the beat... the only good that i can give this game is that you can play your own tracks... but i expected more. dont get blinded by the looks of this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've gotta be real. I love this game. It's like someone made the game of my dreams. I'd completely recommend it if it wasn't for one caveat: the version I love is still in open beta. There's no denying that the game launched in a very weird state - It wasn't what the trailers showed game-play-wise. What was shown was a structured, level based rhythm shooter. What we got was an arena-based rhythm shooter with auto-beat-mapped levels, meaning the beat maps we made from an algorithm. Because of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →UNCE, BOOM, UNCE, BLAM! If you like loud noises, fast past action and proper sick beats then you got the variety all here mixed into one little package. It has all the hall marks of a Quake/Unreal Tournament, "no time to blink" style speed, twitchy gunplay, all with a cel shaded art style. If this is your first rodeo into Rhythm shooters then this will take a while to get into, but once you do, it just clicks together! It's pretty hard too, I'm struggling to get past some arena's on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was so excited for this game man, and it's so botched here in so many ways. First off, and I may be remembering this wrong, but didn't the demo have a locked off story mode button? I thought there was gonna be a story mode but I guess they removed it. Second off, why ditch the levels? The demo had full levels you played through and now it's just arenas with no interesting level design. Lastly, the shooting is so off compared to the music. The demo had you shooting in unison with the music but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think it does a good job of incorporating a rhythm dynamic into an fps and the core gameplay elements of Gun Jam are quite addictive! The compact and minimal UI is sleek and uninhibited on the action frame while the general graphic design, with pulsing and vibrant colours on all levels, is fantastic and gives the game a certain charm. The most defining aspect however, has to be the soundtrack which, whilst spanning multiple genres, sounds massive and explosive and delivers a great…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Im just here for the custom music feature. the fact you can manually edit the beatmap too, it is pretty addicting for me. although yeah the game still feels like a glorified demo. but if you want to experiement with the music and gunplay like me, then you'll be able to sink alot of hours into it if you're an audiophile like me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a great time playing this! The tracks are phenomenal and well worth checking the game out alone. You feel absolutely badass shooting along to the beat, and it encourages you to get better and better at the tracks and stages. It takes some getting used to as you have to learn how the game works on your own, and there's not much in the way of progression through the game as everything is available at the start. I'd be happy to boot up this game occasionally and sync up to the music over…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not quite everything we had in the demo, but developers have been very responsive and engaged. What is released is fun, but it could be more fun. I'm recommending it based on that, it's still my favourite rhythm shooter so far. More poignantly realised than it's competitors even if it goes no further than this somewhat premature release.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the movement in the game :) Very cool to jump and dash along the beat. Love the visual fidelity as well. Overall, it's more of an arcade game rather than any kind of level-based adventure -- one of those mindless fun with your favorite tunes
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't play the demo and so came into the game with little in the way of expectations and I'm also new to the genre in general, with the only other rhythm games I've really played being Guitar Hero and (a very long time ago...) Samba de Amigo on Dreamcast. So far, I'm really enjoying things! The controls are as simple as they come and you can tailor how fast paced you want the gameplay to be with your choice of song, allowing you to go in all guns blazing to smash your previous high score or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No score keeping, so you can't track your progress through the songs in the different arenas.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth it. (At least for now?) x2 I edit review cause game get update and seems like developers not abandon it. The devs really trying to be communicative with community and slowly but surely make updates. But why I still cannot recommend this game right now, even after recent update fix a bunch of issue? Two major flaws is still there. First one: The game didn't have enough content right now. That's normal for small team of developer, and I personally don't expect giant bucket of maps…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Firstly, I’d like to start by saying that the original soundtrack for GUN JAM is an absolute triumph! In my option, every track here is a winner, and amplifies the already fast paced gameplay 10-fold. There’s something which makes you feel really cool when you hit the beat just right, and while you probably won’t nail a song the first time round, it’s fun going back in a second time trying to master it. The ability to add my own songs to the game and have them auto mapped is awesome, I’ve…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are games that do the beat thing very well, THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. I like the music and makes the shooting fun but the closed arenas make this game get dull very quick.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Think I have some visibility to other #indie game devs now; is anyone looking for a #producer? I overcame massive challenges to get Gun Jam done on time and took plenty away from the experience
unlabelledView post →Is GUN JAM the next Guitar Hero of FPS Games? While the concept is cool, the interest I am sure is there but not for the price tag and slow game play! Will GUN JAM amount to more then a simple arena shooter? While the graphics are fun, the music is good and the concept is new, I got bored relativity fast while playing it, and would have to say no. However, if you like FPS and music I would recommend the game when it goes on special. While this is a new release and the the reviews have been…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoying it so far, the gameplay is quite fun and addictive once you get into it and learn the notes and what the player can do. It's a very arcadey and full on type of game with all the art and explosions. The soundtrack that comes with the game is good overall and some songs are catchy but finding it more fun just to put on my own music and shoot away. The game makes it fairly easy to upload music but some songs definitely work better than others so maybe having a few options or a way to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I did not play the Demo as it appears a lot of those who dislike the full release have, with very little knowledge of the game I came in and found the release to be an enjoyable experience. The gameplay is rather fun despite my lack of knowledge in the genre and feels extremely replayable due to the different playstyles of combat versus movement. The auto mapper took a little getting used to initially but the "gaps" and "lulls" that people may be describing (IMO) are there to give notable…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edited on July 3rd 2023. Now that the rework update is out of open beta - I'm cautiously optimistic about the game. The update brought back much more interesting timed levels instead of just arenas, and added a much improved mapper with solid automap and manual mapping abilities. While the game isn't perfect and I hope more of the fun levels are going to be added and the music list expanded beyond what we have / the mapping community will start to thrive. So while it still needs a lot of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some tracks deserve attention, despite the current build of the game, you don’t want to leave them, you want to play more and more, I hope the devs will make a campaign and re-release the game, to open 2 more `checkpoint` levels now, enter the code "cakedeliveryservice "in the settings - beta versions, it's already a little more interesting with them
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a disappointment
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is an interesting mix of bullet hell and music. I've spent a fair amount of time on Audiosurf and Beat Hazard back in the day and this game is scratching that same itch; a good game to put tunes on and chill out too. It's nice playing a rhythm game in 3D too and the floaty traversal feels quite liberating. I would love to see maybe a couple more movement abilities on characters (wall-running, just throwing it out there) to really open up keeping the momentum and style going. Never…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I been following the twitter team for the game waiting for release and only a few minutes of playtime, refunding it. Not the kind of game I was expecting. Fwiw, I didn't trust the reviews with so little play time, but only playing it for a few minutes, I trust and you should too. It's not what it seems to be and thought it would be something along the lines of Hell Slinger or BPM.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game looks cool on the visual part and the sound is 10/10! Can be improved optimization a little bit.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a neat idea, but it just doesn't really work for me. Or, anyone, evidently. I was drawn in by the concept. Rhythm-action FPS? Let's check it out! Unfortunately, there's just not much here, and what is here is fundamentally broken. I played 2 levels, finding that my attention was split between shooting on rhythm and running around the arena to shoot enemies. This split is fighting each other in a way that just isn't fun. I died both times, for unclear reasons. What, am I supposed to pay…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gun Jam is an experimental first-person shooter that attempts to fuse two genres that rarely intersect: high-speed arena combat and rhythm-based gameplay. Developed by Jaw Drop and published by Raw Fury, the game positions itself as a bold genre hybrid, asking players not only to aim and move with precision, but also to internalize musical timing as a core survival skill. From the outset, Gun Jam makes it clear that success is not about raw reflexes alone, but about learning to think, move, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is simply an unfinished product and I can't recommend it for that reason. There is no word on if the devs will continue to work on it, but what is there is a blast and so fun. If you want a fresh take on the rhythm shooter sub-genre with one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard, then give this a try. Just know it is an incomplete experience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ya.... just don't buy it, play something else... ANYTHING ELSE lmao
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will say I'm recommending this game specifically if you like rhythm shooter games. The songs that they have already are great plus you can upload your own songs! Overall the game runs smooth and I hope they make some good updates in the future to add in more content I did make a 1st thoughts video where I go over the pros and cons of the game. It's only about 4 minutes and I think it hits everything you might want to know before buying this game. Other than that if you hyped about rhythm…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great and unique art style and a fun fast-paced fps combined with guitar hero like gameplay AND with great music choices along with the availability to even use your own music in game leads to having a blast whenever I play this game, definitely a great choice for those like me that enjoyed playing games like guitar hero as a kid and switch to fps games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a musician I'm having a lot of fun playing the game. It felt very strange at first compared to traditional shooters but once you start getting the groove it's a lot of fun. It's great that the OST has different styles of music and the fact that you can add your own music gives it a lot of replayability. Most other rhythm shooters so far have a very heavy metal blood and demons kind of aesthetic (not my jam...pun intended). I much prefer this style of colorful scifi cartoony look. I like the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I clicked that I recommend this game [AT FIRST, READ EDIT BELOW], but only if you have a niche. I have been looking for a fast-paced shooter a-la Ultrakill that felt unique and challenging with a high skill ceiling. This is absolutely it. Self-paced challenges combined with the structure of a rhythm game in the FPS genre feels like an M rated Rhythm Heaven Fever. The music feels awesome, and massive plus there's an option for custom songs. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm excited to see if…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit: they responded and updated the game, now its awesome. cant wait to see it updated further The demo that came out several months before release was amazing! The music was somehow curated to line up perfectly with the timing of shooting enemies, as well as the traversal of the levels. You were able to feel yourself get faster and better as you improved and got further each time. The high beats when you were swarmed with enemies, the small lulls that allowed you to dash to the next area,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Watch the full review here: https://youtu.be/fiyanxEM4rY Even with an acceptable soundtrack it lacks substance, and most of all, fun to the game. I was expecting much more. Follow my curator page here: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/Melgacius/curation

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked Gun Jam. It is not perfect but I think it has its charm. Pros: You can upload your music More than one game mode I liked that unlike most BPM FPS games it does different beats Cons: The existing catalog of track and levels are super limited Still feels EA The characters being locked by difficulty with no real change in fighting makes no sense to me. It's a good base game but still feels like an early-access game needing more love. I think if it gets more love it'll be better. But as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a huge fan of the demo, I was hype to finally get my hands on the full release. But unfortunately something feels wrong with this version of the game, as if it were a build from much earlier in development. The obvious thing is the removal of the "corridor" levels from the demo, those were such a blast, replacing them with far less fun arena modes. The main menu feels awkward and simplistic, and I really wish you could listen to a sample of the tracks before jumping into a mission. And am I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you play all year long (mainly) only 2-3 games regularly, this is a good choice to run from the "routine" of your usual gameplay. Very dynamic gameplay, with a mixture of Guitar hero vibes and Quake vibes. The musics are awesome, for what I played so far, very good choice of soundtracks, although this varies due to diferent tastes in music. I would wish that: it had a story mode, a game this good has a lot of potential for it; Multiplayer, as it sounds it would be really fun to play with…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good Game. i like art style and music combo. <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has high learning curve, but after a few rounds it gets soooo much fun! I am still really bad at it, but I am getting the hang of this! Recommended to those, who likes to challenge themselves and Enjoy the music/rythms!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pros: the biggest thing for me was ability to use music I like inside a game. killing mobs to Iron Maiden is far more pleasurable than to some generic heavy metal. Maybe later we will get some integration for spotify or youtube music so you can stream directly into game. cons: enemy animations are under cooked and on some levels environment is too bright so enemies blend with it.
