This is a licensing issue and Steam is not trying to screw you over. However, you can easily return Ferrari and Porsches to your game by updating it and installing the No-CD patch (Note: Steam version is already No CD, you still need the patch though to get Ferrari and Porsche to work). On to the game. It's a very old game, true, but the physics are outstanding and with mod added content…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've ran the championships a run once, currently working on my second run-through of the game. The time I've clocked in this game is closer to 40-ish hours than the 24 it says; the game launches a launcher (for file permissions) before it launches and when the launcher closes, Steam no longer says I'm in-game. ANYWAY. Right, review time. PROS - GRAPHICS. For a game made almost 9 years ago, the graphics hold up well. Vehicle liveries are clear and easy to read, cockpit decals are clear, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't take any notice of negative comments these are from people expect 14 year old game to be push and play ...like be serious. First thing copy GTR2 folder from Steam. GTR2 and 3dconfig exe need compatibility mode XP or W7. Then add these 2 mods will fix all issues and some. https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/gtr2-10th-anniversary-patch.21415/ https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/gtr2-hq-mods-collection.21424/ Have a look how nice it looks and runs with cheap AMD 3200G tower 100…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →IMHO Simply the most complete and best-value PC sim ever made even until 2013 except MAYBE the pay to play ones. As for nowadays rating: Graphics (8/10) -has weather and time change which isn't anywhere else except for some older games which lacked others Physics (8/10) -not at its best when sliding, difficult but rewarding Gameplay (10/10) -many levels in AI performance, tons of setup adjustments which worked, custom weather and daytime Replayability (10/10) -driving lessons, limitless…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Personally this is my favourite racing game. Literally hundreds (if not thousands) of additional content available from the modding community. Also, the game doesm't hold your hand and force control off you (unless you want it to) meaning that unlike the Codemasters F1 games you actually drive the entire race. Pitlanes and post-race inlap. 16/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best sims ever created. And for the 2 euro price or whatever it goes for on sales, it's quite frankly a steal. The base game without mods is a 10/10, you can mod it to make it an 11/10 game. A timeless gem.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've just been revisiting this game after a gap of many years. I think I last played it about 8 years previously, before newer, shinier toys came along and distracted me. So how does it stack up today? Really bloody well, frankly, Surprisingly so. I'm a big collector and player of games from all platforms. I never sell games and replay them a lot. For this reason, I comfortably hop between PS1, Atari, ZX Spectrum and PS4 for example. But there are a few types of game that don't traditionally…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GTR2 is one of the most well known and beloved racing sims for good reason. It is a game that got just about everything right and still holds up, 11 years since its release. It delivers on everything a fanatical GT racing fan like myself would want out of a racing game. Sense of speed is great, car models, interiors and sounds are spot on, physics are excellent and the game has full wheel support with lots of options. It also has mod support as well. The Steam version of this game does have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GTR 2 is still one of the best sim you can get. Full FIA GT 2003-2004 season, real time 24 hours race, drivers swap, animated pit stop,AI and Player mechanical failure, dynamic weather, good damage model, great physics, and it runs pretty well with an old laptop. The AI is not really good though, but there's a tweak for it on the internet. Also, i recommend you to read the engineers handbook made by Simbin : https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/gtr-engineers-handbook.18045/ Edit : There's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How good is this? well you can't quite smell the burning rubber and red hot brakes or the burning clutch, but thats about all that's missing. One of the best old-school racing sims before the new generation. Still plays very well today. Another classy SimBin production with pleasing physics, cracking sound, pretty goodAI, and a host of tracks. Add to this the great community surrounding this and its is similar stable of games with all the mods, addons, tracks and cars (and yes, some online…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, but in Steam version there are no Ferrari's and Porsche's. And the main problem is that the cars can be seen in game, but they are grey. This I find OK, but... I don't want to crack the game in order to be as it should be. It is not normal, when I buy a game to crack it with NO-CD patch. Thumbs down are only for this issue.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is the most realistic racing sim I've driven bar GPL, so I recommend it heartily, BUT, and that's not a small but, with several caveats. Right off the bat, it's difficult. It's not unfairly difficult, but it's certainly frustratingly hard, so stay away from the game unless you are willing to sink in hours and hours practicing your skills and tuning your setups. Second, it's no looker. It was brilliantly good when it first came out (Hell, I remember drooling over the first GTR's graphics…

And now it got even better with Crew Chief and VR support http://thecrewchief.org/showthread.php?2012-GTR2-Setup-Instructions-and-Known-Issues With more info here https://www.racedepartment.com/threads/gtr-2-vr-support-not-asking-telling.193327/ And how to hex edit and fix clip planes here https://www.racedepartment.com/threads/using-plugins-with-steam-gtr2.193547/ On top some rf1 plugins will work but it is not the full rf1 API so a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As old as it might be, GTR2 still to this day remain one of the most complete racing simulators out there. It's a timeless classic. Packed with features, great physics and plenty of content make GTR2 a must have title for all simracing fans out there.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing Assetta Corsa ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. This games physics engine and sounds are a lot better IMHO. The car even stalls when you brake on the clutch and everything. It's fantasticly made.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an old game and I have an old "but not so old" PC (Asus Rog G20, 16GB RAM, GeForce 1060 GTX 6GB, 1TB SSD), so it's a perfect match. You just have to install the 16th Anniversary patch (4 GB) to benefit from a graphical update of tracks and cars : https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/gtr2-16th-anniversary-patch-part-1.21415/ See also some information here : https://esport-racing.de/gtr2-16th-anniversary-patch/ The patch includes a way to improve the wheel settings of modern PC…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game crashes and will not run on a 2014 laptop running windows 10,ive done everything i can think of to fix it and it will not cooperate,
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thought I was good at racing games, as I have spent hundreds of hours playing Gran Turismo... Turns out I suck at racing games with a keyboard. Who knew?! (Unless it's Track Mania, I'm beast at that.) What started as an urge to play a racing game, and not wanting to go downstairs and hook up the ps3, I ventured into my library to see what racing games I had, I found this! So here is my totally un-informational review of GTR 2 FIA GT Racing Game. Steam says I've played 0.0 hours, but I spent…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game if you just got a wheel and looking to get into sim racing. This will teach you some good fundementals of driving. It's also old but it holds up well. It's made by SimBin so you know the physics are great. The mods are where the game really shines. You get a good selection of GT cars from the base game but there's mods out there for almost every racing series you can think of. And they're compatitble with RACE 07 and rFactor. It might be a bit discouraging at first when you struggle…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let's say this clear right from the start - this is the greatest sim racing game of all time, at all, forever! What a masterpiece! Loads of cars, accurate tracks, full day cycle, changing weather, propper rules, absolutely awesome DRIVING SCHOOL!!! Even pitcrew animations, all this in 2006. Graphics looks old in 2025 of course, but bro... It matured like wine... So you have all this and, surprisingly, this game is not dead in 2025 at all! Community is still huge, running online races and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are patches and fixes for the grey cars at Racedepartment(OverTake) + has more modded cars than RACE07 + AI takeover + runs on a toaster (even with 20+ cars rendered at present) + AI recognizes you on track - (NOTICE) the performance of AI in both Qualifying and Race is somehow massively different, they can be really quick in qualifying while driving like Newbies at races, this is the same with RACE 07 (and probably GT LEGENDS)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite it's old age, I still believe that SimBin's racing sims are the ultimate games for offline singleplayer simracing. With the proper mods (really recommend the 10th anniversary patch), the game looks fresh, runs great, very playable with a gamepad if you don't have a wheel (much more so than Assetto Corsa), and there's plenty of guides on the internet to get those modern direct drive wheels going with good force feedback tweaks. The reason why this sim is one of my most played simracer…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best (track) racing simulator I've yet played! (Haven't played very many so far, I'm generally more into arcade racing and vehicular combat games) The good: - Firstly, this game has the world famous BMW M3 e46 GTR. This alone is plenty of reason to get this game!! It's sound is recreated very well. Even if the gearbox noise is kinda muffled, it still clearly is a genuine recording and the angry roar of the P60B40 engine is perfectly recorded. - Sound design. Seriously good work for a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is still one of the most enjoyable racing sims around. Graphics are old but you don't really notice it when driving. Only the lack of dynamic cockpit shadows is a real minus. The physics and insane amount of modded content keep this one alive year after year, or decade after decade even.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best sims. Though a bit old, still beats most racing games and sims. Complete your life, get this game now!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best racing simulators of its time. It's a very immersive game with great sound, competitive AI, and a soul. It needs modding in order to fix some major issues due to its age, but it's worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite its age, I can say that this is the best racing simulator I have ever come across. Not completely due to graphics and physics but mostly due to it being a complete package. If I were to compare this to another simulator I own, Automobilista (which also runs on the ISI Motor physics engine like this sim), AMS does offer a better deal in terms of content; but in terms of immersion, GTR2 steals the show. For a game from 2006, a day-night transition, a decent weather system, pitboards (yet…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still the most feature-complete racing sim on the market.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although old GTR2 is still one of the best racing sims out there. GTR2 is based on the 2003/2004 seasons of the FIA GT Championship, and its base content includes 25 cars & 15 track locations used in those seasons. The game has nice graphics, good sounds, handling of cars is very good, precise & intuitive, controller support is good, and there's lots of mod content available. Graphics can be slightly better than rFactor depending on the mod/track used, and replays generally look better than…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Where do I begin? I love this racing simulator so much, I've decided to write a review about it (Which I RARELY do.) I'd imagine the best place to start is a pro an con list. -PROS -Amazing AI (Possibly the best in any sim game) -Great physics -Great modding community -Large core selection of cars, classes, and tracks -Tutorial for new people (Not me, but a good feature for them) -Optimized engine -Amazing cockpit detail (For the time, and still pretty good for my standards) -Great setup menu…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game! My second racing sim right after Race07, love them both and recommend them both as well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really great racing sim for how old it is, 100% the best of its era, in my opinion. Just be aware that the Steam version requires a little bit of modding in order to get the full experience out of it, however the game is super easy to install mods for, so it's not a huge deal. (also there's hundreds of mods to install, for basically any track or car that you could want.) The game runs fine on most newer systems and steering wheels(I have an AMD Ryzen CPU and a Logitech G29 wheel, and it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic sim that has aged well, due to its phenomenal physics engine and good graphics for its age, plus appropriate content.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GTR2 is absolutely still worth it in 2019 for sim fans. Check out the GTR2 10th Anniversary Patch or the GTR2 HQ Mods Collection over at RaceDepartment.com to bring this title to life. Search "secrets of gtr2" for FFB tweaks. When the SimBin Mega Bundle comes on sale, with GTR, GTR2, Race07, GTL and so many more games and expansions, it's an absolute steal. Go get it! Update: I play this outside of Steam so my playtime isn't accurate. My playtime is in the thousands of hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fantastic for its age, but I have to give it a thump down only because of porsch and and ferrari licences. Should be included in the game instead of have a dosen and more non skin gray vehicles to participate with you. PS: and no the cracked or cd version solution is not a right solution. You are forced to sign in to a forum and run a third party product (safe or not). PS2: After about 2 hours in a 24h race all the cars stopped competing and ran with the speed limiter. wtf.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember one day, about 12 years ago, when in my school there was a gaming contest taking place. I joined on the spot with my collegue. Quite good PC's (hardware), LAN, keyboards and GTR2 launched. As I had grown up with racing games, I quickly dominated "noob section" and finally finished 2nd at the whole event. My collegue was 3rd. The 1st one was the guy, who played before and completed the game earlier, so he knew the "know how". And I remember a situation, driving Lamborghini, when I hit…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A quick review: after 13 years, it's still the most complete title so far. 24 hours full cycle, smart AI, variable weather, a full series story and championships. A true study-case for the modern SIM-racing producers (actually most of them only hot lap simulators) learn how to do the stuff.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have it running in 2026 on windows 11 with updates and minimal mods. Been MODing the game, first point you need to modify some of the files. 1. sudo.exe steam runs is the wrong exe to run. So you have to take a copy of GTR2.exe and rename it as sudo.exe. This will make it so that steam shows your "play time". Later you can patch it up with version 1.1.1 and apply a no cd patch and a 4GB memory patch that clears up bugs. Ive applied a"nordshelief track 2008" track MOD its work simply by…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this for more than the time Steam gives me credit for. It has everything: weather, a day-night cycle, accurately reproduced GT cars and tracks, and graphics that have aged rather well. Racing titles today lack some of these despite how much tech has progressed in both hardware and software capabilities.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd forgotten how good this game is. Racing sims have gone backwards when you compare them to this. It may not have the best physics compared to Assetto, but the immersion is second to none. not only still worth playing, but well worth playing!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has more features and better physics than many modern simulations.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The mother of all simracing games, without it we wouldn't have what we have now. It even has features that you can't find in modern simracers like a "load saved race" which means you can actually do a 24h race in parts. I have this game on CD, but it's gotten too much use, so I bought the Steam version, just to be sure I could continue playing it. Totally recommended, however software and hardware have changed in 12 years time so a few things to keep in mind if you pick this up just now, so…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is old, but still one of my favorite racing games (along with RRRE, Automobolista, GT Legends, Race 07, and Assetto Corsa). Pros: + the cars (2003 - 2004 FIA GT cars) + the tracks + graphics are still look pretty good + good sounds + tons of mods for it + really cheap Cons (mostly minor annoyances): - Had to do some fiddling around with nvidia profile inspector in order for it to look good - The UI is not too great - Had to work some magic in order to get Porsches and Ferraris to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GTR2 is a classic in the Sim Racing Genre. Though the graphics and physics are now dated, it provides a glimpse into the depth of past sim racing titles, and some missing features from current games. One of my favorite features from GTR 2 is the driving school, which helps drivers hone their skills in general, and on specific tracks. RaceRoom had a similiar sort of set up in the early days that I really appreciated. For it's place in history, and excellence during it's time, GTR2 gets a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same game, same sh*tty f*cking gameplay. "A" to accelerate, still can't find what key TURNS THE CAR. "K" speeds it up by 500% if you want to end the race though. Which I do, and hopefully normal people would. This whole franchise is f*cking garbage, don't buy any of their sh*tty "RACING" games. -100/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simply the best sim-racing game ever made, still the best. This game have that something that Project Cars (game that is the most similar to the GTR2) doesnt have. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow. This is seriously a 2006 racing game? 'Cause ♥♥♥♥, the graphics here makes the game look like it was made in 2010! And not only that, but the fabulous, detailed car sounds are even better than the likes of Gran Turismo. Props to the ones that built the engine this game is powered by. Thank you so much for making this!
