Gloomwood is early access but has been consistently fantastic and is an easy recommendation. Aesthetically, this game is like the greatest hits of 1998-2004, somehow evoking both the Dark Engine and the Source Engine with an art direction that feels like Bloodborne by way of Thief.

Even a mutated man still has his needs. Anyway, check out Gloomwood. Love that game. (On the off-chance that any devs might see this: Sorry. You have some very fuckable monsters in your game.) #nsfw #nsfwart #monsterart #monster #terato #teratophilia

Honestly fun but I think you developers are taking advantage of the term Early Access these days. Push an unfinished product out with promises of updates and make one every year or two. It's getting out of hand.

This game is a brilliant love letter to Thief, the best immersive sim since Deus Ex, and the best game New Blood has produced, period. Yeah, you heard me right. This game is a STEALTH game, and it has better GUNPLAY than Ultrakill. Everything about the guns is just amazing: the sound, the animation of pulling out your gun and checking the ammo, the satisfaction of blowing someone's head off with a headshot. It feels like banging someone's head off with a deagle in Counter Strike. I have no…

I had to take a moment to gush about this game. I'm about 6 hours in and have been having a great time. I walked in mostly blind, I like Dishonored-y stealth games, and I like Victorian/Gothic horror stuff, so that was enough for me. The moment you realize WHAT THIS GAME ACTUALLY IS is a mindblowing experience: It is Dishonored/Thief in a Soulslike semi-open environment. The environments are big and interconnected and labyrinthine like Souls, but also honeycombed with explorable alcoves and…

This game is phenomenal with a lot to love, but it has some rough edges that just give me the ick. Really great when you sink your teeth into it, but I can't even disagree with some of the negative reviews when the game's three years into EA and still has some amateur fumbles inside. I'd like to write about those fumbles real quick before I can get to praising the game proper, because the devs really need to fix these if they want this to be the masterpiece it deserves to be: Watchmen AI is…

Strongly recommended, but with a major caveat. Yes, Gloomwood really scratches that old Thief itch and is likely my favorite stealth game since MGSV: The Phantom Pain, but that Early Access tag is likely not going anywhere anytime soon. Granted, this is a New Blood game, the same studio that published Ultrakill, which has been in early access for even longer. A common thread between these two games is that they are both excellent from practically every angle but are also both unfinished from a…

    6. Gloomwood I would controversially say this is perhaps the best game New Blood published, an Immersive Sim currently in early access that takes a lot of inspiration from Thief, a healthy dose of Resident Evil 4, and a teeny smidge of Bloodborne. store.steampowered.com/app/1150760/...

the quality of this game absolutely deserves its overwhelmingly positive review score. its absolutely incredible. easily competes with dusk and ultrakill for the best game in the New Blood catalogue. BUT when i buy EA games, i usually play a little bit to get a refundable-sized taste, and if i like it, my personal rule is that i dont play it again until its a complete game so i can get the full uninterrupted experience as intended. 4 years later, and i havent played a single minute past the…

Gloomwood is a game many (the devs included) have compared to Thief, a legendary and foundational stealth game and Immersive Sim that came out all the way back in 1998. That is high praise and a lot to live up to. Thief is one of my all time favorite games and one of the very few I would give a perfect score to, even in spite of its dated mechanical clunkyness. To be frank, I don’t think the devs should be encouraging these comparisons, because Gloomwood does not live up to them. Since I am…

Excellent stealth game with some really fun immersive sim interactions, 10/10 would nuke an entire room of bat people with a barrel I stole from a gun store. I pirated it because I'm poor, got up to the Hive section and realized my cracked copy didn't have the latest few updates. I bought the full version both to see the new sights and because the devs deserve more money to finish this wonderful game.

The game itself is good, the atmosphere and immersion is well done and I found it to be an enjoyable experience. However if you are looking for the next dishonored game this is definitely not it, I understand it is an indie game so it won't have nearly the same depth but with the amount of content despite 3 and a half years in early access is honestly pretty dissapointing. Just realized i have never actually reviewed this game, despite it being one of my favorite games of all time AND that ridiculous playtime. Thief/Dishonored meets Resident Evil 4 is the elevator pitch for this game which while it does give you a good idea of what you're in for isn't even barely scratching the surface of the game's design. The amount of choices, options and hard decisions you will have to make that not only affect your current situation but will affect you with unexpected…

Utterly glacial development pace. Game is 1/5th~ complete after 3 years, receives around 3 content updates per year, and the progress seems to be slowing down. The idea is lovely, but I simply have no desire to wait 1/8th of a human lifespan to play a feature complete version of this. I have a bad feeling that it will end up in a minimum viable product state in a few years once money dries up. Edit: The game is 3/5ths complete now when it has around 10 hours of content? Grim.

Buyer beware... I see quite a few people in the review section call this game "Thief with guns". If you've played Thief 1-3 and have fond memories of em (as I do), then read below before playing. Just so you know what to expect. This is *not* a Thief remake. It is heavily inspired, especially graphics wise, of the first two games in the original Thief series. It shares a few of the same mechanics too. But there's also a critical difference: Gloomwoods protagonist is fast, lethal, and on…

Gloomwood really hits the spot that no other game can in the current state of the industry. You may find games that are "similar" but don't hit quite the same as Gloomwood. If you enjoy stealth games: Gloomwood. If you enjoy horror games: Gloomwood. If you enjoy player freedom: Gloomwood. You may think that player freedom and horror are at odds with each other. You'd be wrong! It's due to the player freedoms that lead to the greatest horrors! If you play on the most difficult settings, you…

The game does not restrict play style, nor discourage one from exploring with their skill and wonder. The sheer volume of content and game balance is out of this world for a game that is not even finished yet. While I love the art and environments in this game, I just can't recommend it right now. The game is just very clunky and not very satisfying to play. Additionally, because it's so stealth focused, the combat that occurs when you get caught is pretty uninteresting and not engaging. I don't remember how I found this out but I think I was just messing with a safe and accidentally put in the one code and it opened, and then I used the same code on another safe for fun and it also worked. I could not have been more wrong. The only things this game has going for it are the great visuals, atmosphere, and sound design. Most of the time the game encourages stealth rather than going loud. There are multiple paths you can take along the way, outside in the town or dungeon or inside a building, if you look carefully, you will find a way to crawl through the ceiling, hidden vent, lever that moves a closet, pipes outside a window.…
