60 of 111 · most liked firstGhostwire Tokyo is a perfectly average game, never really excelling at any of its elements but being just enjoyable enough to see through to the end. The game is set in a deserted Tokyo that has been consumed by supernatural forces. We play as Akito, a teenager who survives the event due to being inhabited by a spirit named KK. Akito gains mystical abilities and sets out to unravel the mystery behind the city's mass disappearance. I was incredibly excited to play this game set in a location…

I played maybe 20 hours in this game and I'm having fun for sure.(steam deck playtime not adding up for some reason) Ghost Wire Tokyo isn't exiting by any means but it is a nice chill walking sim with some action. So don't get your expectations too high. Also, it runs at 30fps low-medium settings with xess upscale on the steamdeck so keep that in mind.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As an action-adventure game built around Japanese folklore and urban legends, Ghostwire: Tokyo actually has a pretty interesting premise. Replacing traditional firearms with gesture-based elemental attacks, while mixing in spirits, talismans, bows, and other mechanics, gives the game a combat system that is instantly recognizable and distinct. Unfortunately, the game once again falls into the same open-world formulaic trap that plagued The Evil Within 2. The combat system looks fairly diverse,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished Ghostwire: Tokyo - a dazzling open-world journey through a supernaturally raptured Tokyo, full of smart game design, creepy side stories and floating cat vendors. I think it was hugely underrated on release, and it's a damn shame we don't already have a sequel. Recommended.

When I play a game like this I super level up my guy right away because I hate long battles and I play on easy. Mostly I liked exploring and collecting things and there are sooooo many things to look for in this open world! Helping the ghosts was fun and I LOVE the cats and dogs, I wish I could feed the cats too. I liked wandering around the…

But the gameplay gets stale real quick, A short game is a good game and the story told is entertainng but forgettable. Held in an open world that makes ubisoft look like they make linear campaigns and thoughtful collectibles. I still enjoyed it, Its only worth picking up if you want a slightly spooky folklore horror game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ghostwire Tokyo is a deep plunge in Japanese folklore and traditions, you really have the chance to learn a lot about it and the immersion, in this fascinating empty Tokyo, is pretty absolute. You can find demons, spirits and weird creatures, some benign, others openly malicious. Visually it can be both stunning and disappointing depending on locations. But what really stood in my imagination about this game is when all Shibuya goes without lights to let the demons parade pass. Albeit…

This game feels really different from lots of other stuff ive seen before and although i cant speak to its realism it feels like it was populated. Which is exactly what you want. - Characters are great. All the characters are awesome, even in english they felt pretty good. My only complaint is there doesnt feel like there is any sense of urgency for the main plot. - Enemies designs are pretty cool. I remember when i first played this…

Cons: - Firstly, the story is by far the blandest, weakest part of the game. I was interested in learning more about the characters and their stories, but there just wasn't much there. At times the main story feels disjointed from the game play, which is a shame, because the game play was really fun! - This is the first…

I would start a session and enjoy it for it's very strong atmosphere. I'd be having a lovely time walking around in this really well-realized world, but then my mood would be ruined by the excessive combat, the flow of combat, the janky controls and paper thin stock anime characters. The last five sessions would end in the realization that I was playing a…

unlabelledView post →Well... I liked most of the game. But, as many other reviewers who are trying to be somewhat on point, I need to start with the major turn-offs. First, the game is based on Japanese culture. You may not be a fan, but at least it should not put you off by default. Because some players can't stand games with too much J-stuff. Second, the game consists majorly of clearing off the map by travelling and searching for collectibles, and constant random fights with respawning enemies, and both of…

unlabelledView post →Gave it a solid try, around 6 hours. I don’t feel Too bad given the fact that I only paid $6.00 for it. It wasn’t for me. Really boring gameplay and uninteresting game concept with empty open world and mediocre combat and enemies. I don’t recommend it at all at any sale price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great game to play during spooky season! It plays like an open world collect-a-thon, but with a spooky vibe. The combat feels sort of basic, but each encounter is a visual delight. Eventually you get enough abilities to just dunk on all the ghosts you encounter, which never gets old. I've put in over 100 hours through the years, having played through the campaign multiple times, and I've spent a lot of time in the rogue-lite mode as well. It's worth a play through if you're in the mood for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yet another Ubisoft-like open-world game about towers with a meaningless world and lots of identical objectives. The game seems to have an interesting atmosphere to it from the teasers and screenshots, but at the end of the day all you are getting are identical urban Tokyo shops with extremely boring gameplay attached to it. The combat boils down to spamming the same attacks over and over and there is a *lot* of combat and random encounters. Don't waste your money; even if you like tower…

But the school sidequest in Ghostwire Tokyo scared the shit out of me to the point I had muscle cramps from jumping out of my chair. The game itself is just spooky, not horror, which is why that quest scared me even more.

So many times throughout my gameplay I thought "what is going on?!" So they hit the nail on the head with that. It's a very beautiful and artistic game, I love the funky art and designs. The monsters are actually kind of scary. However, there aren't really any jump scares (even though I spent the first hour or so waiting for one- Ya…

The animations are ridiculously good, especially the Ethereal Weaving and those core-pull finishers every fight made me feel like Doctor Strange working the night shift in Shibuya. I loved exploring the rooftops, chasing yokai, feeding dogs, arguing with KK, and stuffing thousands of souls into paper dolls before depositing them at a phone booth like some kind of…

unlabelledView post →Now do Dishonored, Hi-fi Rush, The Evil Within, and Ghostwire: Tokyo. Not every game succeeds. Every studio fails sometimes. Spencer and the other neckties (and you, I guess) think they can thin the deck to only bangers and that's just not how art works.
unlabelledView post →Forgot to write review for this game so here it is: Ghostwire Tokyo is a game with nice art direction, but rather bland and boring. I was playing hoping that it will get better (almost felt that it will be) but it never does. Gameplay is basically you being sort of a mage fighting spirits and demons from japanese folklore. You have 3 elements that you can compare to automatic rifle, shotgun and rocket launcher and a bow (basically a sniper rifle). Sounds fun but combat is rather boring because…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not an amazing game, but it is a fun and competently made one. The story doesn't stick out as anything super special, but it's still enjoyable for what it is. Many people these days think of "mid" games as being bad simply by their nature as not being exceptional, but I don't think that's any standard to hold games up to. Mid simply means average, and average games can still be good. Although this game contains horror elements, it's not something I would personally describe as scary.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not bad, but it feels like a game that's constantly trying to take off but never leaving the ground. I did not finish the game because I found each step of the journey to feel like a bubbling cauldron of something about to happen or be revealed, but it never happens (I reached Chapter 4, I believe). The characters are well voiced and even well written, but there's no real story to grab on to. The game presents all of its elements well, and some are even pretty compelling on their own, but…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just updated the Video Game Soda Machine Project with several soda machines from Ghostwire: Tokyo. I also included a short video of a creepy floating glitchy soda machine. I think it's haunted, but honestly, I stopped paying attention about halfway through the 20-minute opening cinematic.
unlabelledView post →Ghostwire: Tokyo looks beautiful and the story and lore are excellent, but it's not a good game in my opinion. The combat is very shallow and enemy AI almost non-existent. The rest of the time you're collecting stuff that can be highlighted by pressing a button. Walk around, press button, walk or fly to marked object, press button to collect, rinse and repeat a thousand times. I'm aware lots of people like this kind of "checklist" gameplay, but it's not my cup of tea. Next please.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had high hopes for Ghostwire: Tokyo but was disappointed. I love the aesthetics and general art style however fighting mechanics feel clunky and limiting, enemies feel like bullet sponges which is annoying rather that engaging. Even though the city looks good, its exploration and soul collecting mechanics feel like a chore and just boring. The same goes for story and plot - characters are annoying at best and boring at worst. I really wanted to like this game but it just didn't deliver.

Enjoyed the game, definitely, quite relaxing to play despite the amount of collectibles, Great story, Side quests are fun and i enjoyed the gameplay + Traversal. Then the setting of the game is awesome. I recommend it. 8/10
unlabelledView post →If you look at achiement data, as of the end of 2025, less than HALF of all players have completed Chapter 2. And that sort of spells out what this game is, divisive as all hell. Combat is fun, but repetitive. Ammo is burned through, but "ammo crates" are everywhere. Consumables require repurchasing super often, but you get so much money and what else are you really going to spend it on? There's so much great about this game, but you can almost feel something somewhere holding it back.…

You got it. 30 second cutscene followed by a loading screen and another 4 minute cutscene. Then there's the insurmountable mountain of collectibles that have no real unique purpose other than being there to fill an already cluttered map and reward you in the exact same way the rest of the mundane and repetitive gameplay already does. Enemies are sponges, dialogue is dry, the story's full of holes that leave major…

unlabelledView post →The best and worst thing about this game is its open world. Best because it's a stunningly beautiful rendition of Tokyo and fun to traverse. Worst because it's filled to the brim with time-wasting filler collectibles and busywork, in the worst Ubisoft-like style. If devs had scaled it down (kinda like in their previous game Evil Within 2), it would've helped the pacing of player progression and the pacing of the story a lot, because the story is good. The dynamic between 2 main characters,…
