What is your name, spirit?" and prompted to enter a name on the board to be used for the save file. Entering "no" immediately closes the game.
unlabelledView post →I found out this morning that Ghost Master had a remake/remaster in early access and I was super excited to buy it. I launch the game and find myself greeted by an ai generated main menu background. I thought that was weird because I didn't see an AI disclosure when I looked at the store page earlier in the day. So I check again and see the disclosure is there now AND I discovered that it was only added a few hours before. Incredibly gross behavior from the developers. *EDIT* Game was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: It has potential but right now it's a mess and has far too many issues and too many missing/incomplete features. Patches come out slowly, but each makes a good amount of progress. The game is still far from "ready" though. Lots of bugs, model/texture problems, lots of powers don't work properly (the Uneasy mechanic not in the game yet, Fool's Errand/Wild Geese send mortals to random locations instead of to a Haunter's fetter, manifest powers force nearby mortals to look at them instead…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The smug and irritating devs of the "remastered" version mock the supernatural and do not respect the dead. a disgrace of the Ghost Master universe. cheap, worthless cash grab. AI usage involved, aggressive monetization. better to let the dead stay dead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It looks better and plays better than the original. However, while a lot of the quirks of the original have been fixed, there's still many glitches and weird behaviour to be found. Unfortunatly, there's a general lack of polish to this game, including a ton of typos and many out-of-place, distracting AI assets. The AI artwork is especially bad - they often don't look anything like the original artwork, so it just look bizarre and sticks out like a sore thumb.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ghost Master (2003, PC) This game seems kinda fun. However, I think it might have THE most annoying tutorial I've ever played. The voiceover for it is SO bizarre and the game seems terrified of going more than 10 seconds without talking at you. It legit gave me a headache lmao.
unlabelledView post →A bit soulless - ironically. Does a disservice to the original. If you can ignore the typos, the AI assets, the AI 'art' which doesn't make sense, the placement of weird emojis, and the fact that the game has been made much easier than the original, you might enjoy it. But I don't appreciate the lack of honesty from the developers, nor the obvious cashgrabbing in the DLCs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I avoid giving negative reviews because I believe they have a disproportionate impact on Steam's algorithm. I feel less inclined to do so when I'm doing this for a remake of a childhood favourite. However I believe that having AI generated assets in a game, without using Steam's disclosure until someone else leaves a negative review pointing this out, is a very bad business practice that warrants being pointed out and this is my only way of doing so. This feels like an especially bad approach…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, I am a massive fan of Ghost Master, I love it and used to play it all the time when I was a kid, and I even bought it on here and am playing it again, and I was surprised to find out that there was a remake, I bought it, and... the graphics are better, and that is really the only positive thing I have to say, everything else is almost exactly the same, but the one thing that is an extremely big negative that ruins the whole thing for me is the use of Ai, there is no excuse for that, that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For new players assuming that this newer version of the game is better than the original, you would be wrong. Maybe it will be, someday, but not in its current state. It is buggy and broken. These are not the same developers that created the original, and they are struggling to make everything work properly. It is currently mid September and there hasn't been an update since early April. Maybe it will get fixed, maybe it won't. Many have been giving this game a positive rating based on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AI Slop As engine is adjusted for modern PCs standards - game doesn't crash, doesn't stutter or something. Rest of the game like textures or arts are just thrown to free AI image generator and then put in the game without any correction or something to check if they even fit to art style or just doesn't look strange lol. I bought this for €3.50, but I still don’t think it’s worth it because of how sloppily the graphics were handled. They aren’t just mediocre - you can see unnatural elements…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a kid, I was absolutely obsessed with the original Ghost Master, easily beating it over ten times long before it even made its way to Steam. I vividly remember struggling with those complex, clever puzzles, which makes it all the more painful to see what they’ve done in Resurrection. Aside from the upgraded graphics, this remaster is a total trainwreck of broken mechanics, bugs, and sheer developer laziness that practically plays itself. It honestly makes me want to sit down and cry over…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A deja vu? At this point I have mixed feelings about the remake but I bought it to support devs. The original game was struggling with many issues. Devs never fully polished the game but they fixed the most irritating things. I still remember how rough it was before they released patches but the current state of the remake is pretty much unplayable. The most frustrating things I encountered so far: I can't unlock Arclight. I broke the wall and lured mortals into the basement but they…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointment. Bad release with a lot of things unfixed, tutorial is just not doable anymore, AI stuff... Refunded. Fugg you for trying to play on people's nostalgia. Edit : can't even be refunded because i bought this scam on EA to support the devs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alright, I’m going to write this review in English to reach as many Ghost Master fans (and new ones!) as possible ^^ I’ve finished it 100%, unlocking every ghost - including the new ones and… yeah, it’s great to return to this childhood game, really. And yes, I know this remake is made a bit… poorly? But not really - I’ll try to explain that in this review. First, I’ll talk about how I felt, what I liked, what I didn’t like, and at the bottom you’ll find a summary with plus (+) and minus (-)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been following this project on and off for years, and I was so happy to finally learn they released the long awaited Resurrection edition. Imagine my major disappointment when I found out too late that they use Gen AI in their creation and in the game itself. I had a hunch while playing, and then I saw the AI generated sheep art in the sleeping mortal's dreams. The dishonesty in of itself is a slap in the face. Not to mention all those DLCs and the bugs still present (someone got stuck in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While im glad to see my favorite ancient game revived, this is a buggy mess that only slightly reminds me of it. So many things have changed. - The gold plasm balance makes you able to purchase nearly everything very early in the game, which increases the pace significantly. Some ghosts got new powerful abilities, some abilities remain useless. - You cannot select a mortal if they fell asleep or grew mad, because they are now just a fetter and clicking them does nothing, good luck guessing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished the game. I played through the original like 7 times before, so I knew what to do. With the new content which are a bunch of new ghosts in old levels, 4 new-ish levels (3 entirely new, military base once again for a new finale) and new ghosts in the new levels each with their own requirements of unlocking them. All in all it took me about 9 hours to complete it. Took me a few restarts on some of the levels to unlock a few specific ghosts - looking at you, Fingers and Bridget -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm actually a big fan of original Ghost Master - played it dozen of times myself and watched my friends play it as well. At first I thought about this "remake" as a miracle - the game looked fantastic, but after that I started noticing... some things. Oh yes. These new Devs over-polluted it with AI trash - the main menu (aka the first thing the gamer would ever see in the game, LMAO), ghost models (some of them are gross) and textures, even the voices in a new missions. Geez. Even if as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DISCLAIMER I see a few negative reviews talking about the presence of bugs, and whether or not this remaster was "necessary". With that in mind I'd like to say: It's an Early Access game - a real one, not a marketing ploy one - so temper your expectations on that information, and it does manage to improve on the original in a few areas so if not 100% necessary, then definitely worthwhile. A Great and Uneven Game Gets a Second Chance I'm a big fan of the original game, let's be 100% clear on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought the game mostly to support creators in their efforts. It's the game from my childhood, it would be nice to play it in more up to date version. I will wait some time to have a complete and bug free experience. Good luck to you guys and make Ghost Master great again :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →low effort remaster, its just texture upscale. NPCs still can get stuck, so you lose time. Few more levels but still no new ideas, just repeating schemes from base game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is basically a tech demo right now. They took the old game, ported it into a new engine, and did the bare minimum in getting it to work. All of the levels are in the game right now, but because everything is a placeholder Act 3 isn't playable. This is because only a small handful of powers actually work, anything that changes the environment or the behavior of a mortal simply fires off and does nothing. Ergo you can't beat Act 2 because you can't freeze the water, nor could you beat the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →New video dropped yesterday for the recent remaster of classic horror strategy game "Ghost Master," and why you should just go play the original instead 👏 youtu.be/9K6pb7he5UY
unlabelledView post →Game uses generative AI without disclosing the fact. EDIT: They added the disclosure 31 minutes ago. It was not present before. Only adding it after you get caught is not good enough. EDIT2: Thankfully got refunded even though it took a week and three tickets to get that refund. I will finish this up by saying that you should probably save your money and buy the original game and use the fan-made Complete edition. Much better than this lazy AI filled slop.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally has an AI-generated content disclosure after-the-fact that's not sufficient whatsoever and claims to be leaving early access before the end of the year with no replacements to them. This is disappointing and reflects a poor effort placed into recreating the original game's cohesive theme-ing. It reflects poorly on the game as a whole and that, coupled with a credits that does not accurately credit the original creators of the game feels inappropriate and amateur. Very disappointed in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am so surprised by the recent update, in which the Chinese version was released. I will try this game again and make new reviews ————————Update on 2025.03.16———————— Welp, after releasing some patches I must admit, there are many improvements. At least it doesn't crash any more. I feel the sincerity of the producers. But it still runs very janky. There exists some delay when I move my mouse.I hope it could be optimized. I wish one day I could change this review to "Thumb Up" ————————The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An absolutely absurdly overlooked true classic from the golden era of gaming. Effortlessly stands tall next to other classics from the era like Dungeon Keeper, Theme Hospital and etc. And now it works better on modern systems and the devs seem to be adding new content here and there too. Its extremely buggy right now tho. Edit: Its worth adding that the original back in the day was also quite buggy and was never truly fixed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Predatory monetization. Just look at the cost of DLCs/season pass. I wish I had not bought the game while in early access. I do not support such practices.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unlike traditional strategy games, Ghost Master: Resurrection casts players as the unseen mastermind behind a haunting. Instead of defeating enemies through combat, your goal is to terrify unsuspecting humans by carefully placing ghosts, combining supernatural abilities, and exploiting each victim's fears. Every mission feels like solving a supernatural puzzle rather than simply overwhelming opponents with force. The variety of ghosts and their unique powers encourage experimentation, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely disappointed in the huge amount of AI assets in the game, on top of the obviously mocapped animations from the unreal store on the new haunters. I noticed so far a new haunter also has an AI voice. The other new ones don't exactly fit either in my opinion. Another nit pick, some new abilities have poorly written/confusing descriptions that don't follow the same writing style as the original abilities. Intro movie was put through an AI upscale tool too, so random pieces of it just look…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The original Ghost Master is one of my favourite games of all time, so I was thrilled when this came back. The game itself is much easier than the original was, to it's detriment. I managed to complete 75% of the game in 2 hours. Humans are scared off too easily, and the new powers system only makes it worse. Worst the devs are now selling a season pass for nearly twice the price of the base game, with new levels reusing all the assets from the base game. The first four DLCs reuse all the…

unlabelledView post →UE5 really does not do Ghost Master any favors - My graphic card is reaching 80°C while the graphics are basically same as 20 years ago, just with better resolution and upscaled textures. I managed to somehow softlock the last mission of Act 3 at least 5 times, in 3 completely different ways. The game is noticably easier than the original thanks to some AI fixes. Newly introduced passive and global active skills for the ghost master are making it even too easy. I'd probably forgive all of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The original Ghost Master, which is still on steam is one of the best games I played. That is why I tried Ghost Master Ressurrection, when it first relased it was in very early access missing a lot of content from the original and having many bugs. Yet it still looked promising, until the new content came out. Normally Ghost Master ends in Act III, having around ~15 levels (places to scare). GMR has Act IV and paid DLCs with season pass, which isn't bad unless they are very low quality. Act…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was a massive fan of the original, and even downloaded it again a few months ago. This is, in a lot of ways, almost the same game. Almost. The graphics are a BIG step up, there are a few new levels and ghosts, but they've done really well to take the original and give it a kick onto modern performance PCs. For me it's well worth the money if you like the original.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The graphic differences are too jarring. The characters look exactly the same as the original game, though the furniture around them is made from modern assets. The ghost models look out of place with both the setting and the humans. The UI has new icons for information that look like they were copy pasted into a word document. The updates are just not visually cohesive.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Watched DEAD TALENTS SOCIETY (2024) twice back to back because it's that much fun. It's got things to say about all sorts, has a mild BEETLEJUICE (1988) vibe, but also THE GHOSTS OF MOTLEY HALL (1975) and even the game GHOST MASTER (2006). Mainly, however, it's its own creature and very, very good.
unlabelledView post →I’m currently writing this at the end of act 1. First I should say that I’ve played the original version of this game a lot over the past 20 years. The original version is very solid, but not without areas of improvement. I am very happy this game received a ‘resurrection’ and hope that means a sequel in the future where developers are able to execute on a more original vision. I wanted to share my thoughts for those who, like me, came from playing the original version of the game and if it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I actually recently got a refund on an early access title Ghost Master Ressurection, which added AI trash in development and had no AI disclosure on their page until I pointed it out in a negative review. I bought the game when it hit EA last year. Took 3 tickets and a week to make Valve refund me.
unlabelledView post →It's funny coincidence, because today I thought about this game and as I see, today released remaster, lol. I just played for 3h straight (got to 2nd chapter) and all I have to say - it's soooo bugged. I remember the old version and that's way it was instant buy. I'm glad that they save original voices, cut scenes, ghosts, maps, everything to be honest. Everything is as old version, but... After a few maps you'll start seeing a lot of buggs. Starting from getting ghosts for free (blue murder…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never would I have guessed that I'd ever see something new and official released in the Ghost Master franchise - let alone a complete remaster of the original game, which seemed to suddenly appear out of nowhere. So far, this is a very intetresting remaster. You can tell the creators are passionate about the original game and are trying to faithfully upgrade its visuals. That said, the early access experience is still pretty rough. There are several missing features, quite a couple of bugs,…

unlabelledView post →Ghost Master. The two-hundred of us that played this game understand it for what it is: an absolute classic. A haunted house strategy game in which you order ghosts to drive occupants from their homes. So much fun.
unlabelledView post →Counterpoint: Ghost Master was an incredible game that should've spawned its own subgenre. It's like... a character/story-based tower defense* with richer mechanics.
unlabelledView post →I probably replay the original Ghost Master once every year or so. It’s clunky but nostalgic and extremely fun and there’s no other game that really scratches the itch. I missed this coming out, and had redownloaded and played through the first 1.5 Acts on the original, found this, and immediately replayed. Good: the game is (moderately) less clunky. Haven’t run into the same glitches as other people - there are a few things that don’t work exactly the same as the original (Quake is less…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nostalgic trip with room for improvement As someone who really enjoyed the concept of the original game—despite its many bugs—this remake is exciting news for me. I’m hopeful the game will reach a stable 1.0 release and that they’ll continue expanding with more features and maps. Things to Keep in Mind: Currently, the game is in a 0.2 state, and it shows. There are bugs, including map-breaking issues that sometimes require you to replay sections multiple times or follow a very specific…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ghost Master has long been one of my favourite games, simply because of its uniqueness. The plot, the mechanics, the puzzles - everything about it is interesting and different to all the other run of the mill RPGs and simulators out there. I was very pleased when the game was updated with this remastered edition. Same great gameplay, same retro graphics, but finally compatible with newer systems. This is a game that is worth upgrading, and worth replaying time and again.

unlabelledView post →The OG Ghost Master game is something I've played over and over. I still have the original CD case from when I bought the game in Family Dollar when I was a teenager. So I was so excited to get it remastered. Then I see they're using AI, selling a season pass for twice the price of the game itself, and the new content is so incredibly lackluster that even with my hours on this game, I cannot recommend it. The lack of polish and attention to detail is just so frustrating. It's even worse…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ghost Master is a fun game, im glad there is a remake of it and new ghost's to play with. I hope this game improves over time. mods are going to be fun too, when ever that comes out. one thing i do wonder, if there is away to make like a sandbox were you could build your own custom maps. if so, that would be alot of fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a bit buggy but playable. i recommend waiting a bit until they actually improve the game visually. everything look better but the mirror reflection from the original have been improved (most likely by AI) so mirror ghosts are now being blocked by a "new and improved" low resolution reflection of the room. you wont see humans and the ghosts from the mirror and that is a issue if you try to unlock Tricia (she is invisible now)…
