Set within a prison, the film follows inmates whose survival instincts are tested when a mysterious new prisoner arrives accompanied by a supernatural entity.

Like, ONE CUT OF THE DEAD level obsessed with it, but for different reasons. Watch it ASAP. www.fangoria.com/review-ghost...

If you're lucky enough to have a screening nearby (currently in limited release), it's your duty to buy a ticket and have an absolute blast.

unlabelledView post →Joko Anwar's GHOST IN THE CELL, one of the best horror films of 2026, opens today; for @avclub.com, I have this mini-profile-cum-explainer where he gets into intent and subtext, and where I make the case that everybody should know his work. He's one of the modern greats.

unlabelledView post →The Indonesian import GHOST IN THE CELL is quite possibly the craziest prison movie ever made. Trying to even describe this picture was a challenge! It played at #FantasticFest and hits theaters on Oct. 2. Here's my review: aisleseat.com/ghost-in-the... #horrorsky #horror #filmsky
unlabelledView post →#FantasticFest GHOST IN THE CELL is the most #FantasticFest movie this year. Evoking the best kitchen-sink films from of the mid-2010s. It's comedy, martial arts, bone-crunching gory violence, and dancing, all set in a dirty (both hygiene and corruption) Indonesian prison. Easily in my Top 3.

unlabelledView post →Ghost in the Cell is…wild. Crazy, violent, hysterical, Anwar crafts a film that basically does not work tonally, and yet is such an insanely good time, all to poke at corruption in Indonesia with subtlety thrown out the window, into the wind and into a furnace. A blast!

unlabelledView post →Ghost In The Cell: a fun & very funny Indonesian horror film. We don’t see many horror films set in prison & this film has a great premise. The kills are very well done and the film nicely integrates political themes and issues into the story. It is also very sweet at times too.
unlabelledView post →The premise is really intriguing, and honestly, I was quite amazed by this film. It blends horror and comedy really well. But unfortunately, Joko Anwar doesn’t feel as strong when it comes to writing the third act it loses some of its impact. On top of that, the political satire and underlying themes are delivered a bit too on-the-nose. It feels very blunt, almost like listening to a public service announcement. Still, I can’t deny how impressive the film’s disturbing elements are. It’s rare to…
