Unfortunately they don't really work to make a cohesive whole. This is a "the whole is less than the sum of its parts" type of scenario. Which is a bummer, because it's definitely unique. This game could be amazing, it's just... not. This is a lot of tedium, with systems that were obviously meant to be more robust than they are. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really cool and unique idea that I wish existed in other games. The idea of exploring open space with a ship and crew of clones you customize over time, looking for different resources and fighting off pirate boarding parties is an extremely interesting one, especially in first person with 3D graphics. Unfortunately, it feels very unfinished. The constant infestation spread in your ship just becomes more and more of a chore over time, fighting enemies is like original Doom, but everything is a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so I came back to this game after a few years to see if bugs have been fixed and if the mechanics have been flushed out. No they havent, bugs still get stuck in hanger bay resulting in you needing to delete it to fix it, so if you have any type of storage attached to it. kiss that tuff good bye and hope it wont happen again. lol but it will. Teleporting into enemy ships for rescue or salvage is still a 50/50 of spawning in a decent start spot, or spawning in the middle of the enemy Barracks…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a solid core of a game here but absolutely no refinement. The core gameplay is crawling through your ship vents shooting alien eggs. When you clear them out of one part of the ship you walk back to the other side and there is more. I found myself walking back and forth between my hangar and my tractor beam (which were next to each other) for the better part of an hour shooting eggs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Genesis Alpha One had such a great idea and so much potential, but it ended up being a huge disappointment due to the developers abandoning it. The core gameplay is interesting and creative, but spending hours alone in the game quickly becomes lonely and boring. Many of the issues could have been solved with a proper multiplayer mode, which would have made the experience far more engaging. As it stands, it’s a game that could have been amazing, but ultimately falls short of its promise.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing, and it's not hard to explain why. It is a perfect mixture of sci-fi, horror, survival, exploration, shipbuilding, and crew management. There are no other games like this. The writing and lore implications are well-thought out, and the many different endings can be both incredible and terrifying at times. This game scratches a certain gaming itch I never knew I had. Which is why it’s frustrating that it feels like the devs have moved on and don’t really want to support it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly it's fun, for a bit. After not too long, it's routines, but the big downside is when the enemy begins teleporting onto your ship. Over, and over, and over, and over. It just gets worse, it becomes even more common, frequently you'll be stuck killing wave after wave of just the -dumbest- AI, your crew dies over and over. In my last session I killed literally fifteen opponents, I was almost clear, and suddenly there were more beaming in..and before I could even find them, there were more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is extremely clunky and it takes a while to get used to all the subsystems it has (the UI and the whole way you interact with it is frankly weird). It doesn't help that the game looks like it came out of an asset pack. But... it has a lot of cool ideas. Could be worth checking out if you like games that try to blend many different types of gameplay (basebuilding, survival, crafting, crew management, a bit of combat, etc).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game. Put simply, there's nothing like it anywhere, this game's unique and immersive. I thoroughly enjoyed building up my ship and my crew, exploring systems, and researching (and killing) an endless host of hostile aliens. It's like playing out so many of my favorite sci-fi/horror movies. Full disclosure, I rarely buy games these days but I had to have this, and I pray there will be more, or a sequel, 'cause I'd buy those, too Thanks to the devs and the studio for making an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Genesis Alpha One is a game that could have been excellent. If you look at the curated promotional material, you see a title that's steeped in aliens-esque grit, with excellent vibes. A potential for excellent environments and cool story beats, dripping with atmosphere. The game itself, however, is staggeringly shallow. It reeks of a development cycle that was cut short a year early. You will spend most of your time in proc-gen arenas on bland rocks, holding down your mouse button to shoot an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Half of the Steam reviews are made by lazy and incompetent people lol - the tutorial elements are indeed poor but working out what to do is half the fun. Also people complain that the AI doesn't do enough bug cleaning stuff - that's also part of the challenge - you have to lay your ship out so it's not an onerous task. People also seem to be expecting AAA stuff. I think when it came out it was like 25 quid or something so I can see how the graphics and other slightly rough edges would annoy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think some people will find this game fun, but be warned. It is abandonware. Solid core of a game, sometimes pretty, always clunky. The concept is so awesome I want to love it and I keep trying to enjoy it. but I don't think I'd recommend it to anyone. It leaves me feeling empty and wishing it wasn't garbage. Also, the price point is ridiculous for such a mess. The videos on the main page are not true to gameplay, except for how slow the enemy AI appears. Combat does feel awkward.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spent around an hour and a half, maybe a little more writing a long review on this game 4 years ago. Steam decided it wasn't to be and it vanished. Haven't had the will to try and remake it since. I think this game just falls short of being "good". That doesn't mean there aren't parts I find fun, nor do I dislike the game. There's lots of things in this game that are quite cool, but many elements fall short, become incredibly repetitive or have issues that offset them. Give it a shot if it's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got to say; i am pleasantly surprised here. The execution is a bit clunky, the game feeling very indy in quality, but not vision. This is a game that i can see people who enjoy lots of progression and exploration sinking at least a solid 10-30 hours in. But do keep in mind, what you see is what you get. A slightly jank and clunky solo adventure. My only regrets is that this is not multiplayer, and far more vast in scope and depth. Not to say its not a very fun and worthy game, but i'd love…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a good baseline to the game, but it is just missing important things. It needs co-op, it needs a better taught tutorial so you understand what is going on, and it needs less to be going on at once so you aren't left literally running around putting out fires and killing aliens in little air vents solo because there are a million things to do at once. It's almost there, but I just can't recommend it, and I won't return to the game without those changes. 6/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very hard game to review, because I have very mixed feelings - please let me explain. This game is terrible at being amazing. Ok, the explanation: The idea of flying through space as the last hope to save our species from extinction is overused but a cool idea. To complete this mission you will be building a living breathing ship that you populate with clones and command them as your crew, this is exquisite. You collect Alien DNA and splice it together and create hybrid clones which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is honestly a lot of fun if a bit janky. It's got a satisfying loop of ship building and exploration with some combat mixed in that is somewhat unique. My main gripes are with how the ship infestations seem to work and none of the automated ways of keeping them under control seem to work quite right meaning you need to spend a good amount of time managing them yourself.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun, and an interesting take on exploration, ship building, etc, but its abandonware.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its pretty fun, although it does start to get a little repetitive after 100 hours. the combat is fun, and building your ship and crew is also exciting. im not sure how to describe it, but the game has a 80% done kind of feeling. Buy on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is trash and fun at the same time. It feels sluggish and unpolished and yet it scratched an itch I didn't know I had. Building your space ship (or more space station) in an strategic efficient way, fighting alien infestations, finding new blueprints and gathering resources created a gameplay loop that kept me invested enough. One of those games you grab on sale and be surprised of the fun later on.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought and played this game when it first came out on Xbox One and was exclusive to the console. Back then, they were still updating it. Even though it is abandoned now, it is still very good! So good that being abandoned doesn't matter in the slightest! It can be a little bit repetitive with the grind and micro managing. But also so rewarding when your layout works right! For the people that complain about the infestation: that's part of the fun! If you suck so bad that you can't be bothered…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most "complete" games that I've played. As you learn more about how the game works, all those issues that you're having will be solved by you, the player. Whether it's ship layout (maximum importance!) or what the different clones do, or how to set up patrolling robots or how to get certain resources you will figure out after a while. The atmosphere, of some kind of retro-futuristic iconography combined with pure science fiction is wonderful. The game isn't too long, your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The NPC clones in Genesis Alpha One feel very limited once you understand how the green gas/aliens spawn and spread through your ship. At that point, you often end up just standing around watching as the clones slowly handle the threats—usually taking far too long to do so. Clones can manage aliens reasonably well when they're contained inside the refinery. However, loose aliens that spawn at the ore deposits have free rein across the ship unless you proactively block them off with turrets or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Genesis Alpha One combines space exploration, base-building, and survival mechanics in a unique sci-fi setting. While the concept is intriguing, repetitive gameplay and lack of depth hinder its long-term appeal. Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game had had potential but it seem the dev has not done no new up dates. the last up date was in august so i think it fair to say it was a easy $ for the dev or and he got that or the dev ran out of money or just give up it sad becuse there is some potential here just need more work
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's premise and mechanics are a neat concept for a chill lil game. But this games just too jank, barebones and has been completely abandoned by the Dev who claims its a finished product. Unless you have money to burn or are lookin for obscure/bad games- then id skip this one
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You know what...genuinely a good time. Good game. No complaints.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game seems unfinished. It feels like a student learned programming and after he got the hang of it he stopped. It's not fun, you can't follow the tutorial, operate things, some times a button does not even highlight, but after a couple of minutes you can click it, ..
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game awhile ago on Xbox and its still great! I love the visuals and the theme. Very similar to Alien. I totally wish this had steam mod support. Amazing game and concept. It is somewhat a hidden gem for station builders/scifi rpg horror!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game would be nice if they kept on updating the game adding new stuff and adding multiplayer/co-op
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I paid $4 and I still feel ripped off.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have beaten the game and can give an honest review at this point. I love the concept, but the planet exploration is clearly a joke at this price tag. You just harvest in this incredibly tiny area for a very short time and that's it. The ship building is well made, but the planet designs are horribly cheaply made. I am very "mixed" about this game. It is also rougelike so you basically just keeping winning (or losing) over and over to get more artifacts slowly. You could get 100% of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve really enjoyed my time with Genesis Alpha One so far – the mix of base-building, exploration, and survival is unique and engaging. The loop of expanding the ship, cloning crew, and dealing with threats keeps the tension high while still rewarding creativity. That said, after about 7 hours, I can really see how much this game could benefit from a multiplayer or co-op mode. Managing the ship, exploring planets, and defending against infestations could feel even more dynamic with another…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not sure how this game remains mostly positive. The gameplay is mid at best and hasn't been updated since 2020.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked this game. It's kind of a based (ship) building, resource game you play in the first person. The layout of your ship matters only from the point of making it easier to handle infestations and pirate attacks, but otherwise, build as you want. Yes, the planetary mission are very samey, but you can auto run those. The game can feel a little rinse and repeat, but I think it looks pretty good, the customisation is enough and towards the end you can by quite powerful, but still not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This combines a first person shooter game with a SIM Space Ship simulation where you can build your own Ship AND colonize several planets, fantastic ! Very few bugs, the missions are repetive, but in my oppinion one of the best games I've played. Its a shame there isn't more DLC or a new release.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game, loved the concept and gameplay, I only wish there was more content or other games from the same developer
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i played this in ps4 and got again cuz its cool lil game its disgusting and creepyy and anxiety inducing but its cool its like the little cousin of no mans sky
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I beat the game on the tutorial run and haven't picked it up again but I plan to eventually, it's not the best game ever but there really is not many games similar to it and it is not very expensive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this game, but it has been abandoned for awhile.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While its true this game is abandoned it's not unfinished. I wish it could have gone on to further development but this is a solid 1.0 game that can keep you playing for many hours! It's utterly unique in its genre and I really loved it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A neat little game. It has some flaws but once you understand the gameplay loop they're not so bad. The tutorial does not really prepare you for how punishing the infestation mechanic is, or how important it is to isolate the possible infestation vectors and surround them with turrets and energy shields. The tutorial doesn't even mention that there is an extensive network of "belowdecks" maintenance tunnels that serve absolutely no purpose other than to let alien infestations spread unchecked…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The execution is a bit flawed, but the concept is pretty neat. Basically you captain a ship to find some new planet to ruin with humans. lol The cool part is you have to build the ship yourself. (by modules, nothing fancy) And another cool part is you can run around in it, which you'll be doing plenty to defend it. Both corridors and crawlspaces. And you can have landing parties to scrounge for stuff, or maybe a hint on where this new planet might be. You can also board derelict ships for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The idea is great but there just are so many really bad design decisions and it gets really repetitive
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →well...the concept is great...it would be nice if it was coop or online pvp coop
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game that I only play every once in a while. It's a fun game and it gets a little repetitive but this is the first time i ever saw a game like this. People expect AAA title quality from this game and I was a little disappointed when I first started playing but it's a simple yet complex game that has tower defense style tactics. For people who enjoy the lower end type of games and not just the AAA titles should give this game a try. You have to play at least a few runs in order to get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was having fun at first, but some ships you try to rescue instantly kill you due to RNG and that is enough for me to not recommend this. The long wait and stunlock leaves you to be instantly killed the moment you hop onto another ship, leaving you with no means of protection.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is both kind of crude and incredibly ambitious at the same time. There's an incredibly steep learning curve at first, and the menus are incredibly ugly and not exactly user friendly. But once you get past that, this game is truly amazing for what it is. You play as commander of a colonization ship, dispatched by earth. The ship is staffed by clones, and when your crew die you simply make more in second in a clone lab. You are entirely disposable, if your captain dies, a member…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game I liked when ii first came out but was quickly abandoned by he developers. It had great potential but the game loop is very repetitive and gets old fast. A lot of mechanics aren't refined and the ones that are there are generally annoying. The alien creep on the ship is just awful and you have to try and maintain it constantly. It's an interesting game at first but it lacks a lot of substance to make you want to keep playing it. If the developers didn't abandon their only game it might…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →would you be surprised if I told you this game is rubbish
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's got a flow that's crazy addicting. I love the 80's retro style the music and graphics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Almost perfect game with detailed mechanics. Very unique. You are a captain managing your crew and ship. FPS aspects of the game on the other hand is just forced on you and would have been much better if they weren't there. It is not a AAA game and it shows. AI is not great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly I find the game to be pretty fun. Could it use some work? Absolutely. Considering its a 4 almost 5 year old game I dont see anything changing with it but I just found this game today and wish I had found it sooner. The ship building is a lot of fun. You have to manage resources and be smart about what you build and how and be strategic with placing things so you can easily keep an eye on infestations. The infestations get kind of annoying as I cant figure out if they just randomly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I find this to be a very unique and interesting game, unlike anything I've ever played, and worth experiencing. Although a lot of people may find the mechanics annoying, or unlcear, janky, etc...which may be fair to say, I think it's more accurate to say that the game wants you to fail and experiment and observe how things happen and figure out how to counter them. For example, the first run I did I got overwhelmed by a spider infestation and I had no clue how it started. So for my second run…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a neat game but your ship can get infested and it does get infested a little bit too much. It becomes tedious instead of fun. Would like to see similar-ish games where you build and manage a station or ship, but the game needs to focus more on making the player's decisions impactful rather than throwing infestation after infestation at them. Perhaps a system straight out of Europa 1400 The Guild where you send crew mates for training, they get better at whatever thing, and then you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's clear the developers had a budget to follow that was far from expansive, but the game works, and it's adictive in it's simplicity. Would have loved to see this game with more of everything that is in it. And thats just the thing: the game can almost be considered a proof of concept and I would have loved to see the devs expand and explore the concept to it's fullest extent. I wouldn't take anything out of it, everything that is there works, it only needed more variations, more details,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an absolute jankfest but it's also a gem. Keep your expectations managed and you'll have a great time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a solid game all around, needs some polishing on the mechanics but it works overall. Great game if you're looking for a grind. All you do is collect resource, use those resource to build/upgrade your ship and then you use said ship to explore the "Alpha One Quadrant" and fight off alien infestations and pirates.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like it. Simple. Fun. Little bit of ship building/resource management. Lil' bit of swarm defense. Not too far into it yet, but it's filling a niche. Would love co-op, bigger maps to explore, and more complexity as you progress (not all at once, but a nice ramp up).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting game. i like the game. played all day. i got the game on sale for around $5, i feel like it was a very good game for that price. i got the sci-fi feel when i played it. Only have some small things about the game that i wish to be changed. I got the shotgun and the spread on it is small and feels more like a handgun when you shoot it. planet/debris scanning at the bridge is tedious, i feel like there should be a thing i can build to have everything around you already scanned. (im…
