positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Garou: Mark of the Wolves was ported to Dreamcast on this day in 2001! Interestingly, this game was called "Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves" for it's western release This is odd, as Garou is generally called Garou even in countries where the series is called Fatal Fury - this is the sole exception
unlabelledView post →It's weird because a lot of the people I run into hyping up COTW specifically are too young to have been there for Garou MOTW. So they're not even nostalgic for the game as much as I guess the feeling of playing it on fightcade for the first time lol

The game has ukemi rolls -ala VSAV, blowback attacks, and a 3v3 format, akin to KOF!
unlabelledView post →Like they clearly went nuts with Garou, not only to time everything to a KO, but ALSO to time it differently for a game winning KO. I'm not even a huge Garou fan but I think it definitely has the best FEEL for round winning supers. Like I can HEAR the Busta Wolf one in my head without watching it.

unlabelledView post →Street Smart was the dawn of SNK fighting games and many aspects of it were carried across to their 1st more traditional fighting game in 1991, Fatal Fury / Garou Densetsu, which is not a surprise as both games share the same game planner The games are not directly linked in lore at all however

Weeks earlier I had spent the better part of half an hour trying to get the timing right on just that one move and I do not appear to have psychologically recovered from this.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"why would I play such a niche fighting game on a platform where it doesn't even have a playerbase" Because the gameplay is good enough that you wanna play Story Mode, that's why. The writing too, surprisingly. Brush up on the backstory online. Challenge the CPU. Get good enough to AAA rank your way to seeing character endings. A worthwhile journey in itself even if you never play against another human.

If you are here, then you are a connoisseur of fighting games, so I don't need to tell you why MoW is one of the best fighting games of late 90's and early 00's. If you are casual, and don't want to play anothers, then yes, this is a good option to have MoW. The port is fine, easy to use and the game goes well. You can have a good taste this game in their story modes and you have the practice mode, a primitive one, but a…

The holy grail of consoles at the time. And tucked in with the gift wrap and dad-level excitement was a game the store guy swore by—Garou: Mark of the Wolves. First glance? Meh. I wanted 3D explosions, polygons flying everywhere, not this pixel-perfect 2D throwback. But then I played a few matches. And like a bad habit, I couldn’t quit.…
