Gangs of New York
In early 1860s New York, Irish immigrant Amsterdam Vallon is released from prison and returns to the Five Points, seeking revenge against his father's killer, William Cutting, a powerful anti-immigrant gang leader. He knows that revenge can only be attained by infiltrating Cutting's inner circle. Vallon's journey becomes a fight for personal survival and to find a place for the Irish people. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →Scorsese is getting up there in age, so I can't imagine that he'd wanna devote time to this, but there's a great movie in Gangs of New York and I wish somebody could have access to all of the original materials and put it together the way he would like it to be.

unlabelledView post →A few days ago I re-watched Gangs of New York, and it brought home to me something relevant to our present political situation: America’s divisions on immigration, race, class, religion, and ‘foreign influences’ have always been with us. belib.org/ePxiCQ7
unlabelledView post →For accuracy's sake, Vance's exact quote was "has anybody ever seen the movie Gangs of New York?" I was only half-watching the livestream while working on something else when that jumped out at me.
unlabelledView post →if the movie Gangs of New York taught us anything it's that dudes that have been in America slightly longer than someone else have always been colossal douchebags about it
unlabelledView post →Rewatching Gangs of New York today and literally all the crime in this movie happens under the auspices of Bill the Butcher and his association with Tammany Hall. Striking that JD Vance attributed it all to the immigrants but it certainly speaks to where his instincts lie
unlabelledView post →"We can't have immigration because of the 2002 Scorsese film Gangs of New York, in which nativist gangsters terrorized immigrant communities." Truly a dizzying intellect.

unlabelledView post →essentially said that the 2002 DiCaprio film Gangs of New York effectively illustrated why it's bad when brown people live next door to white people
unlabelledView post →3/ If you ever read the book or saw the movie "Gangs of New York", no it wasn't about Leo's character avenging his father's murder. It was purely and simply, this history including the history of literal "Know Nothings". Ironic use of "Native Americans", yes? www.history.com/articles/kno...
unlabelledView post →‘Gangs of New York’ is not a good movie, but is also pretty clearly about anti-immigrant nativists making life hell for new immigrants. Between this and ‘The Boys’ I’m starting to think they don’t understand the arts.
unlabelledView post →I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry– Scorsese's "first political movie." Scorsese. Martin Scorscese. Marty, if you will. Martin Scorsese who famously made the non-political Gangs of New York and Wolf of Wall Street. That Martin Scorsese?
unlabelledView post →I watched a pirated copy of Gangs of New York once that had both English audio and English subtitles, but the subtitles were poorly/hilariously translated. About 20 minutes into the film the subtitles changed to a confession/apology that the guy was terrible at his job, and asked for forgiveness.
unlabelledView post →Here's some storyboard practice I did in high school of Gangs of New York (one of my favorite movies, a Scorsese film). Be gentle, a teen drew this and idek if it's "correct" but that's how much movies mean to me and how devastated I am to see Marty even considering this. FOR STORYBOARDS. Hate this.
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching GANGS OF NEW YORK (2002). Director: Martin Scorsese. Daniel Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio. The only time I walked out of theater after Scorsese pic & said, "Well, that was a mess." Great production & DDL, but convoluted muddle. Let's see if I still think that. #filmsky 📽
unlabelledView post →My ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 review of GANGS OF NEW YORK boxd.it/d80OUf Scorcese's massive epic impresses in visual grandiosity. Wow! DiCaprio's ascent to influence lacks veracity, plot gets bogged down in exposition, & screenplay tries to cover too many topics. But Day-Lewis chews the expensive scenery! #filmsky 📽

It chronicles the historical account of the 19th-century New York City underworld, focusing on the notorious Five Points district. The movie is a drama based on historical events #booksky #filmsky
unlabelledView post →Watched Gangs of New York and, excellent movie aside, there's two moments with a more contemporary 2000s piece of soundtrack that's so jarring they made me laugh out loud. Brendan Gleason's massive head features throughout 10/10
unlabelledView post →I saw that movie, "Gangs of New York"
unlabelledView post →Gangs of New York was mostly a weird misfire of a movie but the final shot, where the city fades into the modern skyline and you instantly understand that everything the protagonists fought over has been quietly erased by the passage of time is for my money Scorsese’s finest moment.
unlabelledView post →Favorite movie that takes place in NYC. "Gangs of New York" If you've never watched it, you should rectify that. Besides being an outstanding film, the nationalist anti-immigrant subject matter is very timely.
unlabelledView post →Do you ever wildly misjudge how long ago a movie, book, or album came out? Anyway, Gangs of New York came out in 2002. Be right back, I've got to go crumble into dust and blow away.

I also think it should be mandatory viewing in high school US History classes with an essay due on the dangers of Nationalism.
unlabelledView post →Gangs of New York has some faults but God damn was this an amazing performance
unlabelledView post →Just checked out Captain from Castile (1947). Like the last film I watched (Gangs of New York), the script needs some work but the film looks amazing. It’s a film about Cortés’s conquest of the Aztec Empire, and they filmed it in Technicolor on the actual sites in Mexico.
unlabelledView post →but yeah Gangs of New York is actually a SUPER Star Wars movie in that it's all about this intricate world of highly detailed and stratified criminal subculture set against a city fat with money and a massive civil war all of which is hinged on a story of honor and revenge and fathers and sons
