This game wears a skin of a 90s survival horror not understanding the good design behind it. I really hated my playthrough of this game. It has some good things going for it like: - sometimes a really spooky atmosphere - the concept of running around town and seeing the hordes of undead closing in works really well - it doesn't take itself too seriously (though the game uses it as a shield for…

Flesh Made Fear is by all means a very *pretty* game, one of the better looking PSX inspired horror games I've played, but in terms of positives that's about as much as I can lend to it. In regards to the actual gameplay loop, there are a shocking amount of problems that makes the game feel really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can easily recognize that this game comes from a place of love for the prior survival horror classics of the past. However, I feel that the execution leaves much to be desired. I wouldn't exactly call it a horrible experience, but there a number of aspects that really hurt it when compared to similar games in the same genre and price range. Gameplay- An emulation of a classic tank controls survival horror experience. The tension of managing resources as you traverse different areas and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's weird to think about but we're at a point where there are enough well-made indie survival horror throwbacks that I can afford to be picky with ones that are just "okay." I've played enough of these to say Flesh Made Fear isn't anywhere near the bottom of the barrel, but it's not really all that spectacular either. While it has a strong B-horror/PSX aesthetic, substantially it's a very simple, straightforward Resident Evil-ish game with very linear environment progression and some of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Flesh Made Fear is a retro styled survival horror game complete with fixed cameras and tank controls. The game has you explore the outskirts of a town, sewers, and inside various buildings throughout. There are 2 characters you can play as, each with a different game route. I would say each character explores about 85% of the same area, with 15% being original with different bosses to fight. The game took me approximately 5 hours to complete my first playthrough with one character. It took me…

unlabelledView post →This was a fun little game I got for backing the kickstarter. It's like a miniature Resident Evil but more campy. I've played through both characters stories and there is some differences per playthrough, the most notable being some new areas and a boss that's exclusive to each character. The girl has less health but makes up for it with more inventory while the guy is the opposite. I personally found the girl's campaign easier then the guys as the increased inventory was far more valuable…

I've got to know the Dev over the course of their releases, and each release I'm still so impressed that someone that janks it so much is capable of such well made games no matter what style or gameplay they go for. The game is a solid length with a TON of different locations that call back to classic RE - However NONE of these locations or puzzles ever overstay their welcome and are honestly so fun to go through and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the type of grindhouse, B-horror movie jank that I'm here for. Flesh made Fear wears it's Resident Evil roots on its sleeve and isn't coy about that fact. It's memey, it has jokes, it doesn't take itself seriously - and it's a hell of a fun homage as a result. Truly a love letter to the indie horror-playing community with cameo performances and collectables from various streamers, a playthrough of FmF doesn't overstay its welcome and will take roughly 5-7 hours per character - of…

unlabelledView post →★ ★ ★ ★ ★ (5/5) Honestly, this feels like digging up an old PS1 disc and realizing it still runs and still scares the crap out of you. The fixed cameras, grainy textures, and clunky movement somehow work perfectly together. It’s that old school horror vibe where nothing jumps at you the fear just sits there, heavy, waiting. Yeah, it’s rough around the edges, but that’s the charm. You’re not supposed to feel in control and that constant unease? That’s exactly what makes it great. It’s not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SO FAR SO GOOD. I’m only a little ways in but so far game is a real passion project. Yet another example of Indie devs sticking it to the bloated rotten carcass of AAA Studios. PROS: Stylized imagery reminiscent of Resident Evil. Amazing use of lights and DARK darks. Classic ambient soundtrack again reminiscent of classic horror games from the PS1 days. Real unnerving monster designs and fixed camera angles that give a sense of dread. EASTER EGGS!! I’ve only found a couple but my favorite so…

Gets the RE formula down while still retaining its own unique identity. Deserves to be a cult classic. store.steampowered.com/app/3316350/...
unlabelledView post →The intent of this game was clear from the beginning. Let's make our own classic Resident Evil game. Not just classic Survival Horror, but SPECIFICALLY Resident Evil. The entire marketing was based around that. PSX Graphics. Fixed camera angles. Two playable SWAT style characters, male and female. Hell, even a day 1 DLC called the 1998 DLC. 1998 being the year in which Resident Evil takes place, and the costumes are obviously DIRECT references to Jill and Chris. Now with ALL that bein' said, I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The setting, voice acting and story are pretty good. Except for the freekin Camera. It is so bad it makes this game very frustrating. I just finished Tormented Souls 2 which was great but had a similar problem. These devs are trying to copy the R.E. fixed camera feature but they cant get it right. It makes simple combat very annoying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game... Could use some work. It's fairly new, so I'm hoping the devs might fix some of these issues in a later update, but I'll say, I'm struggling to not just give up on it. First, I couldn't for the life of me get this game to play in a 16:10 aspect ratio (the OLED Steam Deck's native resolution) without it cutting out a bit of the far right and left of the screen. Second, this game's controller support as it is makes the analog stick deadzone way too small which made both my Steam…

unlabelledView post →Flesh Made Fear is a shameless love letter to Resident Evil’s PS1-era roots with tank controls, awkward camera angles, questionable voice acting, and all. It wears its influences proudly, and in doing so, manages to capture the same mix of charm and frustration that defined the genre in the late ‘90s. The visual aesthetic is fantastic with gritty pixel art, grotesque gore, and character models that look straight out of a forgotten survival horror gem. Everything from the item management to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome throw back to Resident Evil. Great and cheesy voice acting from youtubers (backed it because of the Vtuber Layna Lazar) Have only made it to the sewers but already loving the design of everything overall. Challenging combat with classic tank controls and an added dodge forward button. All of the easter eggs are great from streamer plushies to an Evil Dead nod when flushing the toilet. Only gripe I have with it is the no manual reload. Unless I'm not understanding how you do it you have…

unlabelledView post →I absolutely loved Flesh Made Fear. From the sound design, to the visuals and gameplay, everything oozes atmosphere and nostalgia. The boss battles are fun and intense, and the game perfectly captures that classic Resident Evil vibe while adding its own dark, twisted personality. The subtle humour sprinkled throughout gives it a unique charm that sets it apart — it’s easily one of my top horror games of the year. (Possible spoilers below!) After finishing Jack’s campaign, you unlock the…

The graphics are slightly better (more like PS2), but the gameplay is 100% classic RE - fixed cameras, tank controls, inventory management, warts and all. Pros: - Cheesy fun! - The enemy designs are quite decent, especially those of the bosses and of the Ripper. - It's a decent game overall - it ticks all boxes for a fan of classic Resident Evil games. Cons: - It's a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's something to be admired about a game that faithfully recreates the essence of old Resident Evil games, quirks and all. Tank controls, fixed camera angles, cheesy voice acting. Most games that get THIS close to recreating the style of RE fall apart because at that point you may as well replay an older RE game, but this manages to toe the line and still be interesting. Worth noting that while I got this game for free, I ended up buying two copies for friends.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rating: 5 out of 10 -Graphics are pretty good for the art style. -The voice acting is so bad, it would have been better to have none. -There is no originality to this game. Every idea is a rip off from other creators. -Movement is sloppy if using a controller. -Boss encounter feels untested. Every attack homes in, regardless if using the dodge button.

unlabelledView post →Despite solid gameplay bases (I love the dodge and double knives) and some very well made decors, Flesh Made Fear suffers from a dull, very linear and overly generous (for the player) level design that really undermines all sense of tension or fear. Yes, things get (a bit) better at the end, but it's too late and doesn't really push me to additional runs. It is still a decent game, but fails to put itself near the level of the ton of great Resident Evil clones that got released in recent…
