F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin delivers a solid first person shooter experience that holds up remarkably well. The visuals are impressive for its time, offering clean presentation and smooth performance that make firefights both cinematic and satisfying. Technically, the game feels well put together, and the overall polish gives it a level of quality that’s easy to appreciate even years later. Where the game stumbles a bit is in its storytelling. The plot and characters get the job done they move…

It looks, plays and is written like a parody of the 1st game. I HAD to quit at the snake fist line not only because the line itself was ♥♥♥♥ but also from reddit tier WOAH THAT JUST HAPPENED reactions from the woman. The hud is goofy and annoying and you cant lean anymore.

If you play F.E.A.R. 2 immediately after playing the first game, then you'll be disappointed very fast. it feels like a step down from the original. It feels like they were taking more inspiration from games like Call of Duty instead of trying to build up from what they established in the first game, the consequences of which are the game feeling more action-y. Stuff like the removal of leaning absolutely contributes to that. My second issue is that the game just doesn't feel as scary as…

I'm slightly late to the party, but I just played F.E.A.R. 2 for the first time. Not sure what happened, but gunplay (especially shotgun) feels significantly worse than in the original game. Not thrilled about the level design and plot either, it's so bland I'm not sure if I'll continue playing it.

it's missing everything that made the first game good, the gunplay took a serious downgrade, the hud is obnoxious and the writing is godawful and cringy, the atmosphere is completely gone, and the story is weak (they retconned both expansions of the first game in favor of this abomination)

I really don't have a single complaint about the gameplay or the game in general. The story is interesting, the enemies are exciting, the graphics and details are very good for that time, there are no bugs or technical problems. For me, this is the best sequel to the F.E.A.R. franchise so far. My recommendation is to play the game first as a tourist on Easy and collect all the slow-mo boosters you can find, then enjoy it on Hard. Pick up the slow-mo boosters on Easy because all the ones you…

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin was a massive disappointment after playing the original F.E.A.R. The first game established a strong identity with its gameplay, mechanics and atmosphere, so I expected the sequel to build on that foundation and improve it. Instead, F.E.A.R. 2 feels like it threw away part of what made the original special in order to follow the FPS trends of 2009, especially the Call of Duty formula. The menu, HUD, presentation and even the way the combat is designed constantly give…

Sure, it may have cool set pieces and fun moments, but basically nothing that made the first F.E.A.R. so amazing is retained here. The weapons feel wimpy and the A.I. was dumbed down incredibly. It's not an awful game, but they followed up one of the best FPS games of all time with an everyday spunkgargleweewee. If you want another good FPS by Monolith, play Blood.

The degradation of the F.E.A.R. series began here. They removed numerous features, downgraded the weapons and level design, and butchered the first game's groundbreaking AI and gunplay. The horror is braindead, the tactics are non-existent, and the shooting is just a gallery filled with meaningless waves of unchallenging enemies. It’s as if someone played Killzone 2 and said, 'Yeah, let’s make that, but worse.' The story is so weak for a mainline entry; it should have been a DLC or a standalone…

Everything that was not in the first game is in the second. Control mechs, use psychic abilities, new weapons. Combat enemies and tear them into pieces. Horror parts are much more intensified. Action is faster with more unexpected moments and interesting story. It's one of those FPS games that you will not forget quickly. Probably peak of the series along with previous standalone DLCs, after that it gets worse.

The Fear franchise is really great in its own right. It's true that Fear 2 is not better than Fear 1, but it's still a very respectable classic horror game! The dose of fear in this game is less than the previous part, the action part is acceptable even in 2025. In any case, if you have memories with the Fear series before and want to activate your past traumas, remember to buy the Fear bundle (the third part is not good, but you get it almost for free) because it's really worth buying at this…

I loved F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. 2. The spooky parts were a little silly at times but the gameplay and destruction were great. Then they decided it needed to be a co-op game and the made regular humans as tough as the Replicas. I'd love to see someone try to put that franchise back together properly.

Eh. Barely, as I got the whole series for $5. At any full price? No. As fun as it is, this game represents the fall of gaming. The devs admitted they removed common features from the first game to make this harder. It goes to show a real lack of talent by the team. They clearly weren't good at their jobs, and the users suffered for it. With the vibe, and having to strip a main mechanic to create difficulty goes to show they got lucky with the first game, and had no clue what they did. It's a…

FEAR 2 has the unfortunate burden of being the sequel to one of the best games of all time. So it's obviously something very hard to accomplish, and while Monoltih tried to stir the pot and change a few things, it falls short from the previous game. So in comparison, it's a lackluster sequel, and probably I wouldn't recommend it only using this frame of reference. BUT, if you forget that this is the sequel to FEAR, it becomes a pretty decent shooter in it's own rights. Sure, it's linear, and…

This picks up directly from the original FEAR, so if you haven't played that then this isn't a good place to start. The first game is an excellent mixture of bombastic fire-fights and horror sequences, and even years later is a fairly unique. well-crafted experience. With some effective jump-scares and a spooky ambience that will leave you on edge, it manages to combine that dread with visceral battles and punchy weapons. One minute you're mowing down enemies in a glorious display of…

Didn't like it as much as Fear 1. Was sort of buggy and the gameplay definitely didn't click the same as the first did. Story was alright and I liked the expanded lore on Alma and what the scientists were doing outside of Project Origin (Kindergarten segment). Ending was definitely a "wtf just happened" moment and was kind of jarring. Story could've copped out that whole part about what she was trying to do with Beckett. Overall 6/10 could've been better than what it was.

Revisited this gane after 16 years, and was happy to see it still holds up. While I prefer the gameplay, enemy AI and lighting of the first game, I always felt F.E.A.R 2 had a better campaign. The game features varied locations and memorable scripted sequences and action setpoeces. Spectacular art direction and music too. All in all it's a very enjoyable action game with some skillfully delivered moments of horror.

Story wise, the game is a perfect sequel; it continues the story, and the quality doesn't diminish. Everything else seems to be less intense; the enemies feel dumber, and the lighting doesn't feel like the origin of ray tracing. This doesn't make the game "bad." The game just feels more streamlined. Overall, the game is still great, but man, I do miss that insane lighting engine from the first game. Goku is the first game, Gohan is the second game. It is shorter than FEAR 1 but better in basically every way. However they did remove the manual save function so you cannot save where ever you want. Very strange. The DLC Rebirth is also very good. It was the most fun part of the game. I do think mods are necessary. This game crashes frequently and also just does not load in levels sometimes. Maybe consider installing mods to fix it if you have very little patience.

What I liked: ‣ Way better graphics and effects. ‣ The story is better and has more moments where it shows instead of telling you about it (scripted moments, cutscenes). It feels way more cinematic and immersive. ‣ Flipping tables for cover ‣ A lot of good weapons (some returning, some new). Really enjoyed the sniper, but I wish some of them were more accessible. ‣ Map variety. ‣ You have segments where you (spoiler ahead) control big robots. That was cool because it reminded me of Titanfall.…

A good story and basic gunplay. a variety of levels and genuine fun for a short amount of time. It's a shame however that this has been abandoned and left to fade in the memories of older players. Some modes require players but the campaign works fine.
