I'm very sad to give this one a nnegative score. I've tried to wait a few patches after release to get as good as possible experience, which, unfortunately did not improve much from EA. Good points: 1. It shares some vibes with SG-1. NNegatives: 1. No overarching story (if it is there, it is not apparent enough or too generic) 2. Events are fun sometimes, but mostly not meaningful and not impactful. 3, Base building is very basic. C'mon, look other BB building games, you can do better than a…

This game is a mixed bag, but not irredeemably so. The base management is pretty good, and you have numerous research options for removing some of the pain as you continue along. The exploration and leveling systems are reasonable. They lack depth, unfortunately, but they're sufficient to keep attention for a bit. Where the game falls flat on its face is combat. There's no strategy. You throw your bulk against the enemy's bulk and then the biggest bulk wins. If you want to invade,…

I was so desperate to like this, to have a new Evil Genius style basebuilder game in my life with a bit more structure. I really enjoyed the early game loop. I was even willing to put off the mid-game becoming Stellaris. Tough bullet to bite, trying to get over how my corporation of size-cap 50 employees was winning a three front interplanetary war. Two scientists and a soldier taking over a planet with brute force is just silly. Then I hit the combat system, when you fight other player…

It's not bad, but sadly too many issues to properly enjoy it. Pros: - Mild 'evil genius'-like atmosphere - Mini events at explorable locations - Early game is nicely done Cons: - Various issues. Ex: one team got stuck at base for half a month because teammates took turns sleeping and eating. Almost never able to do defensive missions because crews are almost never ready. 'glad to see you again' said CO to alien during first meeting. Devices sometimes get stuck broken (move them to trigger…

Did not realize the game was on a timer. Your supposed to compete against factors....okay. I just wanted to build a gate base and pretend I was a Stargate commander and explore strange new worlds. Ok. Edit: I am a moron. You can change it in new game settings. Thanks devs. Back to positive. Sorry :(

The only problem for Exogate is the gate itself. First of all, this game feels like another game series called "Evil Genius". The concept is very familiar, you build the base, send people to mission, and defend it once in a while. There are many mechanics that make it feel unique from Evil Genius, but overall it is much more simple. So, you build your base with rooms for your staff to sleep, eat, relax, and train. Once the core function rooms are ready, you send your people to gather samples…

Whilst this game has a novel idea, after only an hour or so i found the gameplay incredibly repetitive. Base building felt very restrictive, with only a few items per room, No pros or cons aside from object placement to having different sizes of rooms, and being unable to properly customise rooms. Having teams be a small size i found ok, but as the game progessed elements of this became poorly explained. If i wanted to survey a planet that had minerals, does the -initial- team have to have an…

Honestly shocked this game is rated as "Mostly Positive." The UI is janky, lacks important information. The tutorial is really not a tutorial, but random notifications full of text that doesn't really explain how to do anything. It seems like a fun concept, but it's just way to hard to play and lacks the depth required to be fun. If it was early access, I'd give it a thumbs up. But it's a full release without a meaningful update in 2 months. The game also falls off almost immediately after…

I liked this game, but I will give it thumbs down because: Bugs: - OnceI had a bug, which corrupted my save file. I noticed it very late and needed to go back several save files loosing progress. - It needs to be restarted once in several hours because of something like memory leak - Sometimes when squarbs attack your base, the last one is killed, but attack does not stop and you need to reload Unbalanced and grindy endgame: - Outposts are expensive and useless. Outpost level 3 is…

I have to say, I have enjoyed days of learning and playing this game. Until today. I lost. I wasn't defeated. In fact, I was growing my territory and defeating the enemies. No, I lost because the game arbitrarily decided enough turns have occurred and so awarded victory with the highest number of points. Wait, what? Seriously? Now it appears I wasted days of my life going after a victory that would not possibly because of a previously unknown time limit and a scoring system. I then decided to…

I can't recommend the game. It will fill you with micro-frustration : A guy taking 3 days to eat is lunch when you need it for a mission, and ennemies that can remove sectors from you so fast your team to fight off the attempt doesn't get to the gate in time. The concept is great, but one game is enough, can't wait to finish it and park this game.

Overall, the game is good and feels very similar to Evil Genius, but set in space. I can definitely recommend it, however I want to highlight several downsides. They are not critical, but without them the game would feel much more comfortable. My playthrough took around 20 hours, and during the last 5–6 hours I was mostly just fast-forwarding time, waiting for the game to finally end. In my opinion, the game has about 10–12 hours of actual content, after which it starts artificially stretching…

This is a game with great potential. Some good elements like the building and tech tree. However the medics are broken and so is the mental health mechanic. It ends up making whole teams unusable. Which in turn stops missions and the whole game.

TLDR; After 50 hours and 2 full runs, I have to say that this game has potential, but is disappointing. Now, I never played Evil Genius, but the building in this game is pretty well done and I absolutely love how polished it LOOKS! Also, it is really nice to find events being available and ready and not being a game where you have to wait around for things to happen constantly. It's so close to being a good game, but it doesn't quite make it. The base-building isn't bad, it's similar to Dungeon Keeper or Evil Genius. The trouble is that you get the base constructed by about the mid game, after which you just watch your squads go on missions without you. The late game is just a slog. It takes multiple missions to capture or reinforce a planet, so you end up spending most of the late game waiting around for missions to complete. Add to that poor performance, bugs, and a…

Could be a good game but entire concept of factions invading your territory is annoyingly bad. Of 5 times that i got invaded i failed 4 times, and actually managed to defend once. It would be ok if it was because my team got wiped or something but no, they never managed to actually get to defend because invasion succeeded before my team got there, and the only one that I actually defended was because defence mission actually triggered. They were sent there as soon as I got notified of invasion,…

The first question we always ask, “is Exogate Initiative worth the 25$ asking price”. The answer to that is yes, however keep in mind this is an Indie game made by an incredibly small team. So while the game is well done it does have issues. First the graphics are good for a small team indie game. The UI tells you what you need to know and you can easily tell what objects and people are what or who you are looking for inside the base. The base building itself is well done and easy, and if…

Fortunately for the devs, the Stargate theme is unique... it's not like tavern or blacksmith sims with a dozen options to choose from. If there was a single other option, I'd buy it and uninstall this immediately. I love the base building and away mission game loops, but the terrible UI design, lack of information and lack of quality of life makes playing this game irritating. If you enjoy Evil Genius style base builders and/or like Stargate, Exogate is worth a look. I tried the demo on a NextFest years ago and it was not great, but trying the game now that it's launched on sale was a very pleasant surprise. The core gameplay loop is solid, the UI is functional (a bit lacking, but servicable), and the theming is great (it's like Stargate, but clearly its own unique thing, not just aping something else). Definitely 100% recommend on sale, probably even at full price.

This is one of those games where a 'Meh' rating would come in handy. It's enjoyable but flawed in many ways. I really enjoyed it for about the first half of my playthrough, then the second half felt very tedious and repetitive. While the new systems are being introduced and you are growing and skilling up your roster of teams, the gameplay loop is fun and compelling, but by the time the game is halfway through, everything is maxed out and it just becomes a repetitive slog to the finish line.…

Great early game. ONce you meet the other factions, "influence points" become meaningless. You cannot generate enough points fast enough to claim a sector via liberation before the other faction claims it back. The entire "influce" system severly limits mid game playability. Its more frustrating than strategic as you have absolutly no way to increase the speed at which you gain influence points really.

Basically, its a base builder, with some RPG thrown in, a 4x meta game all fused together to perfectly reflect my perfect idea of a Star Gate SG1 game! The 4x elements have you expand the influence of initiative through known space, plenty of mission types on planets, new planet discovery mission, mining missions, life research missions, alien culture research,…
