unlabelledView post →I knew that John Carpenter Letterboxd account was fake once I saw Escape from L.A. rated lower than Escape from New York (Carpenter has said a few times he considers the sequel to be the superior film). Anyway, his response to this is, as usual, succinct and perfect.

(John Carpenter/1996) Carpenter's super campy and super fun sequel to Escape from New York. Great cast having a blast with this one. Don't listen to the haters, check it out for yourself!
unlabelledView post →So, I just finished watching Escape from L.A. This is the most 80's movie made in the mid 90 and I kinda love it? Talk about a movie way ahead of its time. Also, you cannot convince this isn't the inspiration for the plot of Arkham City.
unlabelledView post →I seem to recall @greatdismal.bsky.social saying it influenced his writing? (I always thought Corto's story in "Neuromancer" was Plissken's "flew the Gullfire" in the movie.) I had a blast writing Plissken for my never-happened "Escape From L.A." sequel.

unlabelledView post →Why does everyone in the Trump/MAGA camp bear a striking resemblance to The Surgeon General in the movie “Escape From L.A.”? It’s really creepy.
unlabelledView post →A corrupt president hiding behind Christianity to make '‘being Muslim a crime in South Dakota’? Turning the USA into an 'island of the damned'? It's not as good as the original, but John Carpenter's Escape from L.A. sure nailed where we were all going...3 out of 5. film-authority.com/2026/04/16/e...
unlabelledView post →You know what? Escape From L.A. is a good movie, I don't care what anybody else says.
unlabelledView post →"Escape from New York" was made for $6 million and has excellent visual effects for that budget. "Escape from L.A." inexplicably cost $50 million and has some of the worst visual effects I have ever seen in a film. #EscapeFromNewYork #TCMParty

unlabelledView post →It's shame that the musical score for Escape From L.A. is better than the actual film
unlabelledView post →But IF the extent of your argument is "Army of The Dead?" ...AOTD isn't even as good as "Escape From L.A.," and "Escape From L.A." was only just okay. "Doomsday" (Neil Marshall's movie) was better than both of them (but not better than EFNY) bsky.app/profile/durg...

It's ESCAPE FROM L.A. + GODSPELL + THE 3 NINJAS + SUPERFIGHTS + DEMOLITION MAN... Absolutely essential!!!! h/t: @cayce.bsky.social
unlabelledView post →Escape from L.A. (1996) Also, Pam Grier is always awesome to see. I wish she had her own Carpenter movie where she was the lead. (Uh, and I dont have this shine for Ghosts of Mars, before you ask. Blech.) #filmsky #moviesky
unlabelledView post →Watched 1996’s Escape From L.A. and I think the setup of a post-constitutional president-for-life who denaturalizes citizens and deports them to an off-shore prison colony means that, despite its reputation as the lesser Snake Plisskin film, it’s probably worth revisiting 30 years later.
unlabelledView post →Pitch Black was never just a monster movie—it was a noir-tinged survival tale where Riddick thrived as the enigmatic outlaw, not the protagonist.Like Han Solo before Empire or Snake Plissken before Escape from L.A.,he worked best as a chaotic force within someone else’s story. The sequels forgot that

The ending is instrumental in tying this all together. I count this alongside ANIARA’s and ESCAPE FROM L.A.’s endings as an example of how an ending makes a film.

unlabelledView post →While I agree for the most part, I think Escape From L.A. deserves a mention in this category. (And The Blood of Heroes a.k.a. Salute Of The Jugger is the best sports movie ever made.) #HATM
unlabelledView post →Escape from L.A. is a goofy, uneven, sometime laughably horrible looking sequel to a cult classic, but GOD-DAMN if it doesn't have one of the best and most relevant endings to any film I've ever seen. Carpenter just knew the darkness inside America's soul.

unlabelledView post →Happy Birthday to actor/producer Kurt Russell, born on March 17, 1951, in Springfield, Massachusetts! Favorite movies include the futuristic action film Escape from New York (1981) & the 1996 sequel Escape from L.A., The Thing (1982), Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof (2007), and Bone Tomahawk (2015).

unlabelledView post →I watched Escape from L.A. I am very disappointed in “film buffs” who don’t understand it. The film is about how ridiculous L.A. is and the various subcultures. The surfer in this scene is like real surfers who have actually tried to surf a Tsunami. youtu.be/a3HOCIXroqQ?...
unlabelledView post →I just imagine John Carpenter, pissed off at this point: “Just like Escape From L.A., which was the exact same goddamn movie- it’s Snake’s son. Played by Russell’s son, who’s older than his dad was playing Snake by now. You know what? I don’t care. It’s Paddington now. Voiced by him. Fuck off.”
unlabelledView post →Double Dragon (1994) Before our Oscars special we do sort of the opposite, this insanely 1990s video game movie that often feels as if that live action Mario movie, the old Mortal Kombat movie, Escape from L.A., all put in a blender with too many M&Ms. Plus Alyssa Milano. #Filmsky 📽️
unlabelledView post →Besson lost me the moment John Carpenter won a judgment against him for plagiarizing Escape from New York and Escape from L.A. for Besson's Lockout movie. I don't tolerate plagiarism of ANY kind.
unlabelledView post →I am watching Escape from L.A.; 1981 movie set in 2013. (1st time!) I’m convinced tRump is modeling his dictatorship after this movie.🍿 😬😯👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
unlabelledView post →Did #TACOTrump just watch the John Carpenter film "Escape from L.A." on cable TV at Mar-a-Lago? #NoKings
unlabelledView post →I watched ESCAPE FROM L.A. first, so I enjoyed it more (terribly nineties CG and all). Film dudebros would give me shit for a personal preference, so I took great joy in pointing out that L.A. was Carpenter's favourite of the two.
unlabelledView post →"The more things change the less they do" is a really cool phrase it's so sad it comes from a shitty movie (Escape from L.A.) and is used in a transphobic context.
unlabelledView post →Somewhere in L.A. is an aspiring director thinking this is the best chance ever to film a disaster move and call it "Escape from L.A." #lafires #darkhumor
unlabelledView post →They remind me of those monstrocities in that "Escape From L.A." movie.
unlabelledView post →Yeah only my third time ever seeing Escape From L.A. and since it is a John Carpenter film there are stories of studio interference. In this case a budget slash which didn’t allow certain effects shots to be finished, but it is still an enjoyable film and ahead of its time in some surprising ways.
unlabelledView post →So sometimes I think about how Stanley Kubrick always used plain white text without embellishment for all his opening credits because he believed that ostentatious credits distracted from the movie quality... and then I think about the opening of Escape from LA youtu.be/JuQM7e5L8Hw?...
unlabelledView post →ESCAPE FROM L.A. (1996, Apple, #film) A 90's action romp-a-rama that hits all the same beats from ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK in an even shaggier and goofier mannier. Gobs of blanks, stunts, propane explosions, transphobias (Pam Grier in a heinous paleo-RuPaul wig/drop) and a tsunami of silliness. Eh!

unlabelledView post →Movie 44. Escape from L.A.
unlabelledView post →I actually enjoyed Vampires & Escape from L.A. was a fun, but flawed sequel to Escape from NY. But Mouth of Madness I'd say is John's last true great movie & it's a great tribute to Lovecraft & it's a film that has improved with age. So the 90's is a series of some hits & misses for Carpenter.
